Al-Bayyinah

Aya: 1

لَمۡ يَكُنِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ مِنۡ أَهۡلِ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ وَٱلۡمُشۡرِكِينَ مُنفَكِّينَ حَتَّىٰ تَأۡتِيَهُمُ ٱلۡبَيِّنَةُ

1. Those who disbelieve from among the followers of the (past) Scripture (Jews and Christians) and the pagans were not to part (from polytheism and disbelief) until there had come to them the clear evidence:

Aya: 2

رَسُولٞ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ يَتۡلُواْ صُحُفٗا مُّطَهَّرَةٗ

2. A messenger from Allāh1, reciting purified Pages,

1. i.e., the prophet Muhammad (ﷺ)

Aya: 3

فِيهَا كُتُبٞ قَيِّمَةٞ

3. Wherein are all the right Ordinances².

2. As opposed to their mistaken beliefs and superstitions.

Aya: 4

وَمَا تَفَرَّقَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا جَآءَتۡهُمُ ٱلۡبَيِّنَةُ

4. Yet those (Jews and Christians) who were given the Scripture did not disagree except after clear evidence (from Allāh) had come to them³.

3. I.e., the prophet, or the Qur’ān, which was sent as his miracle.

Aya: 5

وَمَآ أُمِرُوٓاْ إِلَّا لِيَعۡبُدُواْ ٱللَّهَ مُخۡلِصِينَ لَهُ ٱلدِّينَ حُنَفَآءَ وَيُقِيمُواْ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَيُؤۡتُواْ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَۚ وَذَٰلِكَ دِينُ ٱلۡقَيِّمَةِ

5. They were only commanded to worship Allāh alone, be uprightly devoted to Him in religion³, keep up the prayer and pay the poor-rate. This is the right religion.

3. With love and obedience, not associating anyone with Him as a partner.
Muhammed, the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, your Lord Allāh said: I have created all of My servants inclined to worship Me alone, but devils come to them and turn them away from their religion. They outlaw what has been made lawful for them, and they command them to associate partners with Me for which no authority has been revealed.’

Aya: 6

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ مِنۡ أَهۡلِ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ وَٱلۡمُشۡرِكِينَ فِي نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآۚ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ هُمۡ شَرُّ ٱلۡبَرِيَّةِ

6. Those who (persist in) denial from among the followers of the (past) Scripture and the pagans will be in the Fire of Gehinnom (Hell), abiding therein. They are the worst of all creatures.

Aya: 7

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ هُمۡ خَيۡرُ ٱلۡبَرِيَّةِ

7. As for those who believe and do righteous deeds, they are the best of all creatures.

Aya: 8

جَزَآؤُهُمۡ عِندَ رَبِّهِمۡ جَنَّٰتُ عَدۡنٖ تَجۡرِي مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرُ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ أَبَدٗاۖ رَّضِيَ ٱللَّهُ عَنۡهُمۡ وَرَضُواْ عَنۡهُۚ ذَٰلِكَ لِمَنۡ خَشِيَ رَبَّهُۥ

8. Their reward from their Lord 'Allāh' is Gardens of Eternity under which rivers flow, abiding therein forever. Allāh is well-Pleased with them and they are well-pleased with Him. This (reward) is for him who stands in awe of his Lord 'Allāh' 'and shun evil'.
