ٱلطَّلَٰقُ مَرَّتَانِۖ فَإِمۡسَاكُۢ بِمَعۡرُوفٍ أَوۡ تَسۡرِيحُۢ بِإِحۡسَٰنٖۗ وَلَا يَحِلُّ لَكُمۡ أَن تَأۡخُذُواْ مِمَّآ ءَاتَيۡتُمُوهُنَّ شَيۡـًٔا إِلَّآ أَن يَخَافَآ أَلَّا يُقِيمَا حُدُودَ ٱللَّهِۖ فَإِنۡ خِفۡتُمۡ أَلَّا يُقِيمَا حُدُودَ ٱللَّهِ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيۡهِمَا فِيمَا ٱفۡتَدَتۡ بِهِۦۗ تِلۡكَ حُدُودُ ٱللَّهِ فَلَا تَعۡتَدُوهَاۚ وَمَن يَتَعَدَّ حُدُودَ ٱللَّهِ فَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلظَّٰلِمُونَ

229. A divorce is [permissible] twice. Then, either retain [the wife] in a fair manner, or release [her] with kindness. And It is not lawful for you to take back anything of what you have given them, unless both fear that they cannot maintain the limits set by Allāh. If you fear that they cannot keep within the set Limits of Allāh, then there is no blame on either of them in what she ransoms (to her husband) to become free thereby. These are the set Limits of Allāh, so do not transgress them. Whoever transgresses the set Limits of Allāh, it is they who are the wrongdoers. info
