93. Todos los alimentos eran lícitos para los hijos de Israel, excepto lo que el propio Israel (Jacob) prohibió para sí antes de que la Torá fuera revelada. Diles (¡oh, Muhammad!): “Traigan la Torá y léanla[111] si son veraces (cuando dicen que fue Al-lah quien le prohibió tales alimentos)”.
[111] La Torá demuestra que todos los alimentos eran lícitos para los judíos antes de su revelación y que Al-lah les prohibió después varios alimentos como castigo, debido a su iniquidad y transgresión. Si Jacob se prohibió a sí mismo la carne de camello y su leche antes de la revelación de la Torá, fue para cumplir la promesa que Le hizo a Al-lah cuando estaba muy enfermo, de dejar de tomar los mejores alimentos existentes si Él lo curaba de su afección. Aunque este tipo de votos o promesas no son recomendables actualmente, eran prácticas comunes entonces y completamente lícitas.
