(49) “A Messenger to the Children of Israel ˹announcing to them˺ that: “I have come to you with a Sign[586] from your Lord that: I form for you the like of the shape of a bird from clay and blow ˹my breath˺ into it and it becomes a ˹living˺ bird with Allah’s permission; I cure the born blind, the leper and bring the dead to life with Allah’s permission; I tell you of what you eat and what you store in your homes[587]—indeed in these ˹miracles˺ is a Sign for you if only you were Believers””.
[586] The following miraculous, supernatural acts are Signs of his Truthfulness. ‘Sign’ is used here as a generic noun in the singular form although the Signs told here are more than one. (cf. al-Rāzī) [587] Even this seemingly simple act defies human capacity and is an indicator of a person’s extraordinary capability. It could have been meant to address a wider audience who might just show up and ask for a ‘casual’ sign, and after receiving it would be more receptive to the Message.
