Ayə: 75

۞ وَمِنۡ أَهۡلِ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ مَنۡ إِن تَأۡمَنۡهُ بِقِنطَارٖ يُؤَدِّهِۦٓ إِلَيۡكَ وَمِنۡهُم مَّنۡ إِن تَأۡمَنۡهُ بِدِينَارٖ لَّا يُؤَدِّهِۦٓ إِلَيۡكَ إِلَّا مَا دُمۡتَ عَلَيۡهِ قَآئِمٗاۗ ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمۡ قَالُواْ لَيۡسَ عَلَيۡنَا فِي ٱلۡأُمِّيِّـۧنَ سَبِيلٞ وَيَقُولُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡكَذِبَ وَهُمۡ يَعۡلَمُونَ

(75) Of the People of the Book are those whom if you entrust with hoards ˹of wealth˺^[624] they would restore it back to you, and ˹there are however˺ of them others whom if entrusted with a ˹single˺ dinar they would not restore it back to you unless you run after them ˹for it˺. This ˹they do˺ because they say: “We will not be held accountable for what we do to the illiterates^[625]”. They ascribe ˹such˺ fabrications to Allah willingly!

[624] Qinṭār, is a huge amount of money, the exact measure of which is subject to debate. (al-Sijistānī, Gharīb al-Qur’ān, 1: 88; Ibn Fāris, Maqāyīs al-Lughah, 1: 28)
