17. (They are) the patient, the truthful, the obedient, the 'cheerful' givers 'in God's way', and those who beseech 'God's' Forgiveness in the last part of the night.
18. Allāh bears witness that there is no god (worthy of worship) except Him; as do the angels and the men of knowledge -maintaining [creation] in justice. There is no (true) deity except Him, the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.
19. Certainly, the (true) religion in the sight of Allāh 'God' is Islam5, and those to whom the Scripture had been given did not differ except after knowledge had come to them, out of envy among themselves. Whoever denies the revelations of Allāh, then surely Allāh is swift in Reckoning.
5. The meaning of the word "Islām" is "submission to the will of God." This is the way of life ordained by God and taught by all of the prophets from Adam to Muḥammad (ﷺ). It conveys two meanings: yielding and surrender, and devoting one’s surrender to Allāh (God) alone. A Muslim is one who submits and surrenders himself to God.
20. If they dispute with you (Muhammad) say: "I have submitted my face to Allāh and (so have) who follow me." Say to those who have been given the Scripture and the unlearned (i.e., the pagans): "Have you embraced Islam?" If they embrace Islam, then they are rightly guided; but if they turn away, your task is only to convey (the Message clearly). Allāh is All-Seeing of (His) servants.
21. Indeed, those who disbelieve in the revelations of Allāh, kill the Prophets unjustly6, and kill those who order people to be just and fair - give them tidings of a painful torment.
6. Jesus said: “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee” (Matthew xxiii, 37, Matthew xxiii, 34-35, Luke xi, 51).
