4. Al-lah no ha puesto dos corazones en el pecho de ningún hombre, (como) tampoco ha hecho que sus esposas, a las que repudian diciendo que son como las espaldas de sus madres[794], sean sus madres (verdaderas). Del mismo modo, no ha convertido a sus hijos adoptivos en (verdaderos) hijos suyos[795]. Esas son palabras que pronuncian (pero que no son ciertas), mientras que Al-lah dice la verdad y guía hacia el buen camino.
[794] Cuando los árabes repudiaban a sus esposas sin dejarlas libres mediante el divorcio, les decían que eran como las espaldas de sus madres, queriendo decir que las declaraban ilícitas para ellos para mantener relaciones sexuales. Este tipo de repudio, denominado thihar o zihar queda prohibido en el Islam, y quien lo pronuncia debe ayunar dos meses seguidos o alimentar a sesenta pobres para expiar su pecado (ver las aleyas 3 y 4 de la sura 58). [795] La adopción queda prohibida en el Islam. Se puede tutelar o apadrinar a un niño, pero este no debe llevar los apellidos de su tutor ni tiene derecho a heredar como si fuera un hijo biológico. Tras esta aleya, el Profeta Muhammad —que Al-lah lo bendiga y le dé la paz—, deja de llamar a Zaid Bin Harizah (a quien había adoptado años atrás) como hijo suyo y recibe posteriormente la orden de Al-lah de casarse con la esposa que Zaid había divorciado, para que los musulmanes vieran que no había ningún pecado en ello (ver la aleya 37 de esta misma sura).
