وَإِذۡ قُلۡنَا لِلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ ٱسۡجُدُواْ لِأٓدَمَ فَسَجَدُوٓاْ إِلَّآ إِبۡلِيسَ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡجِنِّ فَفَسَقَ عَنۡ أَمۡرِ رَبِّهِۦٓۗ أَفَتَتَّخِذُونَهُۥ وَذُرِّيَّتَهُۥٓ أَوۡلِيَآءَ مِن دُونِي وَهُمۡ لَكُمۡ عَدُوُّۢۚ بِئۡسَ لِلظَّٰلِمِينَ بَدَلٗا

50. And [remember] when We said to the angels, “Prostrate yourselves before Adam,” so they all prostrated except for Iblīs. He was one of the jinn, then he rebelled from the Command of his Lord. Will you then take him and his offspring as masters [26] instead of Me, while they are your enemies? Wretched it is for the wrongdoers as an exchange [27]. info

[26]. Demons would sometimes possess idols and speak through them. People, in fear and ignorance, sought refuge from the harm of the jinn by praising them and offering sacrifices in their name — acts of devotion that rightfully belong only to Allāh.
[27]. Satan, together with his fellow demons, continues to lead people astray from the Straight Path of Islam — deceiving them through false beliefs, desires, and distractions from the remembrance of Allāh.
