ٱلَّذِينَ يُظَٰهِرُونَ مِنكُم مِّن نِّسَآئِهِم مَّا هُنَّ أُمَّهَٰتِهِمۡۖ إِنۡ أُمَّهَٰتُهُمۡ إِلَّا ٱلَّٰٓـِٔي وَلَدۡنَهُمۡۚ وَإِنَّهُمۡ لَيَقُولُونَ مُنكَرٗا مِّنَ ٱلۡقَوۡلِ وَزُورٗاۚ وَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَعَفُوٌّ غَفُورٞ
2. Those among you who pronounce zihār (i.e., swear and back away) from their wives [4], they are not their mothers; their mothers are none but those who gave birth to them. And indeed, they are saying an objectionable statement and falsehood. And indeed Allāh is Most Pardoning, Most Forgiving.
[4]. By saying to one's wife: "You are to me like the back of my mother." Meaning unlawful to approach, which was abolished by the revelation of the next verses.
