169 : 7

فَخَلَفَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡ خَلۡفٞ وَرِثُواْ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ يَأۡخُذُونَ عَرَضَ هَٰذَا ٱلۡأَدۡنَىٰ وَيَقُولُونَ سَيُغۡفَرُ لَنَا وَإِن يَأۡتِهِمۡ عَرَضٞ مِّثۡلُهُۥ يَأۡخُذُوهُۚ أَلَمۡ يُؤۡخَذۡ عَلَيۡهِم مِّيثَٰقُ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ أَن لَّا يَقُولُواْ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ إِلَّا ٱلۡحَقَّ وَدَرَسُواْ مَا فِيهِۗ وَٱلدَّارُ ٱلۡأٓخِرَةُ خَيۡرٞ لِّلَّذِينَ يَتَّقُونَۚ أَفَلَا تَعۡقِلُونَ

169. Then came after them another succession who inherited the Scripture, seeking the pleasures of this lowly life ^[37], saying, “It will be forgiven us.” Yet if a similar temptation comes to them, they will fall for it again. Was not a covenant taken from them in the Scripture that they would speak only the truth about Allāh, though they have studied its contents? The abode of the Hereafter is far better for those who guard against evil. Do you not then understand?

[37]. I.e., unlawful gains and pleasures.
