Al-Qāri‘ah

Vers: 1

ٱلۡقَارِعَةُ
1. The striking calamity1.
1. I.e., the Day of Resurrection.

2. What is the striking calamity?

وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلۡقَارِعَةُ
3. How do you realize what the striking calamity is?

يَوۡمَ يَكُونُ ٱلنَّاسُ كَٱلۡفَرَاشِ ٱلۡمَبۡثُوثِ
4. On the Day, people will be as scattered moths (in confusion),

وَتَكُونُ ٱلۡجِبَالُ كَٱلۡعِهۡنِ ٱلۡمَنفُوشِ
5. And mountains will be like carded wool.

فَأَمَّا مَن ثَقُلَتۡ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ
6. As for the one whose scales of good deeds are heavy,

فَهُوَ فِي عِيشَةٖ رَّاضِيَةٖ
7. He will live a pleasant life (in Paradise).

وَأَمَّا مَنۡ خَفَّتۡ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ
8. But as for the one whose scales of good deeds are light,

فَأُمُّهُۥ هَاوِيَةٞ
9. Hell will be his refuge¹.
1. Literally, "his nursing mother" (a man's original refuge), which will envelop him as in an embrace.

وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا هِيَهۡ
10. And how do you realize what it is?

نَارٌ حَامِيَةُۢ
11. It is a Fire, intensely hot.
