وَلَا تَقۡتُلُواْ ٱلنَّفۡسَ ٱلَّتِي حَرَّمَ ٱللَّهُ إِلَّا بِٱلۡحَقِّۗ وَمَن قُتِلَ مَظۡلُومٗا فَقَدۡ جَعَلۡنَا لِوَلِيِّهِۦ سُلۡطَٰنٗا فَلَا يُسۡرِف فِّي ٱلۡقَتۡلِۖ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ مَنصُورٗا
33. Do not kill the soul which Allāh has made sacred, except with 'legal' right [19]. Whoever is killed unjustly, We have given to his heir authority [20], so let him not be extravagant (i.e., exceed) in (retributive) killing; he is certainly aided (by law).
[19]. In the execution of a legal sentence, or in a just war, or in individual legitimate self-defense.
[20]. To exact a just retribution or to take blood money or to forgive.
