۞ يَسۡـَٔلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلۡخَمۡرِ وَٱلۡمَيۡسِرِۖ قُلۡ فِيهِمَآ إِثۡمٞ كَبِيرٞ وَمَنَٰفِعُ لِلنَّاسِ وَإِثۡمُهُمَآ أَكۡبَرُ مِن نَّفۡعِهِمَاۗ وَيَسۡـَٔلُونَكَ مَاذَا يُنفِقُونَۖ قُلِ ٱلۡعَفۡوَۗ كَذَٰلِكَ يُبَيِّنُ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمُ ٱلۡأٓيَٰتِ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَتَفَكَّرُونَ
219. They ask you about alcohol [82] and gambling. Say: "In both of them there is a great sin and means of benefit for people, but their sin is more than their benefit." They ask you as to what they should spend. Say: "The surplus (beyond your needse) [83]." Thus Allāh makes clear to you the Verses, that you may reflect.
[82]. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, "From among the portents of the Hour are the following: "General ignorance (in religious matters), (religious) knowledge will decrease, fornication will spread, alcoholic drinks will be drunk (in abundance), men will decrease and women will increase."
[83]. I.,e., from what one does not need.
