1. Ta Seen¹. These are the Verses of the Qur’an (i.e., recitation) and a clear Book².
1. The Qur’an is made up of such letters from the Arabic alphabet. The Arabs at the time of Revelation were the unrivaled masters of the Arabic language and yet when challenged were totally unable to bring anything like the Qur’an. Despite this fact, the inimitable nature of the Qur’an and its divine source, God knows best the meaning of these disjointed Arabic letters.
2. Both the Book and the Recitation (Qur’ān) mentioned here refer to one and the same thing, the Qur’an itself; the Book that was to be and then present recited Verses. Its double mention, as given here, is meant to draw special attention to the evidences it provides to the Truthfulness of the Message.
4. Those who do not believe in the Hereafter life, We have made their deeds look fair-seeming to them (because of their denial), so they wander about blindly.
7. (Mention) when Moses said to his family³, I have spotted a fire; I will bring to you from it some news, or I will bring to you therefrom a burning firebrand so that you may warm yourselves".
3. I.e., his wife, during his journey from Midian back to Egypt.
8. When he approached the fire, he was told: "Blessed is whoever is within (reach of) this fire, and whoever is around it; and Glory be to Allah, the Sovereign Lord of all beings.
10. Cast down your staff." And when he saw it moving as if it were a snake, he turned back in retreat, and did not return. (Allah said), "Moses, fear not; the messengers fear not in My Presence."
12. (Oh Moses) put your hand into the opening of your garment, it will come forth white (with radiance) without (leprosy or any other) disease; among nine signs to Pharaoh and his people. They are certainly a people rebellious (against God).
14. They denied it (Allah’s signs) unjustly and arrogantly while their own selves had been convinced of it. Consider then how was the end of the corrupters?
15. We have certainly gave knowledge to David and Solomon. They said: "All Praise be to Allah, Who has favoured us over many of His believing servants."
16. Solomon inherited (the knowledge of) David. He said: "People, we have been taught the language of birds, and we have been given a share of every thing. This is certainly a manifest bounty (from Allah)."
18. Until when they came to the valley of the ants, one of the ants said: "Ants, enter your dwellings, (that) Solomon and his army may not crush you while they do not perceive it."
19. So he smiled laughing⁴ at her word, and said: "Lord, inspire me so that I may be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed on me and on my parents, and that I may do (what is) right (and just) such as You are Pleased with, and admit me by Your mercy (when I die) among Your righteous servants (in the highest Heaven).
4. Learn to smile. See the humor in life and laugh with joy. The Prophet Muhammad helped the needy, the poor and went to the houses of the sick to enquire after their health and whenever he met or passed by anyone he said “Assalam Alaikum - peace be with you” with a smile upon his face. He said: "Your smiling in the face of your brother is charity, commanding good and forbidding evil is charity, your giving directions to a man lost in the land is charity for you."
22. It was not long after the hoopoe came forward and said: "I comprehended that which you did not comprehend, and have brought to you from Sheba with sure news.
24. I found her and her people prostrating to the sun instead of Allah. Satan has made their deeds fair-seeming to them. Thus turned them from the (right) Way (of Islam), so they are not guided,
36. So when the envoy came to Solomon, he said: "Do you provide me with wealth? But what Allah has given me is better than what He has given you. Rather, you rejoice in your gift.
37. Go back to them (and tell your people that) we shall soon come there with an army which they will not be able to face. We shall expel them therefrom in disgrace, fully abased.
40. One who had the knowledge of the Scripture said: "I will bring it to you in the twinkling of an eye." When (Solomon) saw it settled beside him, he said: "This is of the favor of (Allah) my Lord that He may try me whether I am grateful or ungrateful; and whoever is grateful, he is grateful only for himself, and whoever is ungrateful - then my Lord (Allah) is Rich (free of all needs), Most Honored.
42. When she came, she was asked: "Is your throne like this?" She said: "It seems that this is it." (Solomon said): "We were given knowledge before her, and we were Muslims.
44. It was said to her: "Enter the palace." When she saw it, she deemed it to be a great expanse of water and (tucked up her garments) uncovering her shins. (Solomon) said: "It is a palace made smooth with glass." She said: "Lord, I have been unjust to myself, and I submit myself with Solomon to Allah, the Sovereign Lord of all beings."
45. We had certainly sent to (the people of) Thamud their brother Salih, saying: "Worship Allah alone." But they became two parties⁸ conflicting with each other.
46. (Saleh) said: "People, why do you wish to hasten towards sins rather than good? Why do you not ask Forgiveness from Allah, that you may receive Mercy?"
47. They said: "We deem you as a bad omen, you and those with you." He said: "Your omen (destiny), good or bad, is with Allah; rather, you are a people put to trial."
49. They said: "Take mutual oath by Allah to kill him and his family by night, then we shall say to his heir: 'We did not witness the murder of his family, and we are truthful.'"
59. Say: Praise be to Allah and peace be upon His servants whom He has chosen. Is Allah better, or the idols (and false gods) they associate (with Him in worship)?
60. (Are the false gods worthier or) Allah Who created the heavens and the earth, and sends down for you water from the sky; by which We cause to grow thereby beautiful gardens. It is not possible for you to cause its trees to grow thereof. Is there any god besides Allah? No, but they are people who ascribe equals (to Allah - God).
61. (Are the false gods worthier or) Allah who made the earth a stable ground, and made therein rivers, and placed on it firm mountains and made between the two seas (the sweet one and the salty one) a barrier. Is there any god besides Allah? No, but most of them do not know.
62. (Are the false gods worthier or) Allah Who answers the prayers of the distressed ones and removes the hardship, and makes you successors in the earth. Is there any god besides Allah? Little is it that you take heed.
63. (Are the false gods worthier or) Allah Who guides you in the utter darknesses of the land and the sea, Who sends the winds as good news before His mercy (the rain). Is there any god besides Allah? Exalted be Allah above what they associate with Him.
64. (Are the false gods worthier or) Allah Who began the creation, then returns back to life, Who gives you sustenance from the sky and the earth. Is there any god besides Allah? Say: "Bring your proof, if you are truthful."
81. Nor can you guide the blind out of their error; you cannot make (anyone) to hear, except those who believe in Our Verses, and are Muslims¹¹.
11. We are all called to be in submission to Allah (God) for when we submit to God only will the devil flee from us as we are then committed to Allah and will be able to withstand the temptations of the devil.
82. When the Word (Decree) befalls them¹², We shall bring forth for them a beast¹³ from the earth speaking to them (saying) that the people had no sure faith in Our verses.
12. At the approach of the Hour.
13. The beast is a great creature which Allah will cause to emerge when the people become corrupt. It will speak to mankind and exhort them, having the ability to reason and speak. It will make marks on the people’s noses which will distinguish the believers from the disbelievers.
83. (Warn of) the Day when We shall gather from every nation a party from among those who denied Our revelations, then they will be driven (to the place of Judgment) in rows.
84. Until when they come (to the place of Judgment, Allah) will say (to them): "Did you deny My versus while you did not comprehend them in knowledge? Or what (else) was it that you used to do?"
86. Do they not see that We have made the night so that they may rest therein, and the day sight-giving (to seek one’s living)? In this there are, certainly, evidences (of the Onness of God) for a people who believe.
87. (Warn) of the Day when the trumpet will be blown, then those who are in the heavens and earth will be terrified, except those whom Allah will save. Everyone will come to Allah humbled.
88. You will see the mountains, you think it to be solid, but it will pass away as the passing away of the clouds - the work of Allah¹⁴, Who has perfected every thing - He is All-Aware of what you do.
14. Allah designed his people to be inventors: He has filled them with skill to do every sort of work done by an engraver or by a designer or by an embroiderer, or by a weaver - by any sort of workman or skilled designer. Painting, carpentry, planting trees, landscaping, decoration, architecture drawing, cooking, writing, and other jobs involve artistry too. In fact, any time a person is building, he is inventing, although this work only feels like creativity when it is accomplished in a spirit of joy.
Whatever profession a believer is engaged in, to the best of his or her ability, with integrity, and in a spirit of thankfulness, he or she works for the King of the universe and is doing something good. Allah is the first and the best of the creators, but since we are made in his image, we also produce. The Qur'an and Sunnah focuses our attention on those who not only produce something beautiful but also redirect attention to the Glory of Allah and teach others.
90. But whoever comes with an evil deed¹⁶, these will be thrown down on their faces into the eternal Fire. (It will be said): "Are you recompensed (for) anything except what you used to do?"
16. I.e., polytheism, disbelief, and every evil sinful deed they committed.
91. (Say), "I have only been commanded to worship (Allah alone) the Sovereign Lord of this township¹⁷, Who has made it sacred, and to whom belongs every thing. And I am commanded to be a Muslim¹⁸."
17. Makkah and its surroundings.
18. I.e., submitter to the Will of God.
92. And to recite the Qur’an¹⁹. Whoever seeks (God's) Guidance, he is only guided for (the benefit of) his own self. Whoever strays, then say: "I am only a warner."
19. The Qur’an gives guidance about how anyone can live his life in the way God would want them to. There is guidance in the Qur’an in every aspect of life wherein the person will turn to its advice when he is faced with a dilemma. Acting in accordance of the Qur’an leads us to Salvation through following the Prophet Muhammad. The Qur’an and the Sunnah will give you guidance. It will keep you away from sin. Allah's word will protect you. You will have wisdom. You will grow in your faith in Allah. It heals your body. It is your weapon.
