39. It is He 'Allāh' Who made you successors on earth. Whoever denies 'the Truth', does so against his own self. The denial of the deniers will only increase the Wrath of their Lord and will only cause them greater loss.
40. Say: "Have you considered associates which you invoke besides Allāh? Show me what part of the earth they have created, or have they any share in the heavens? or have We given them a Book so that they follow a clear Proof from it? No, rather, the unjust 'the pagans' promise one another nothing but delusion.
41. Indeed, Allāh keeps the heavens and the earth from vanishing. If they were to vanish, there is none who can uphold them other than Him. He is Most Forbearing, Most Forgiving.
42. They swore by Allāh their most binding oaths, that if there came to them a warner they would be better guided than any of the 'previous' nations. But when a warner 'the Prophet Muhammad' came to them, it did not increase them except in aversion,
43. 'Due to their' behaving arrogantly in the land and plotting evil; but the evil plot does not encompass any except the plotters. Then do they wait for anything except the fate of the former people? For you shall not find any change in Allah's way of dealing; and you shall not find any alteration in Allah's way16.
16. Throughout history, flawed human beings have embraced ever-changing versions of truth or personal preferred realities to suit their desires. However, the Qur’an points to one truth, the one true God, Allāh, and one way to salvation—the Qur’an and Prophet Muhammad's way 'Sunnah'. The prophet Muhammad affirmed that people, like all created things, are temporal, fallible. The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of Allāh 'the Qur’an' and the way 'Sunnah' of His messenger, the Prophet Muhammad, endures forever.
44. Have they not traveled throughout the land to see what was the end of those 'destroyed' before them - they were more powerful than them? Allāh is not such that anything in the heavens or in the earth escapes Him. He is ever All-Knowing, Most Powerful.
