Az-Zalzalah

1 : 99

إِذَا زُلۡزِلَتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ زِلۡزَالَهَا

When the earth is shaken with a mighty quake,

2 : 99

وَأَخۡرَجَتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ أَثۡقَالَهَا

and the earth throws out its burdens^[1],

[1] i.e., its dead bodies and treasures.

3 : 99

وَقَالَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ مَا لَهَا

and man says^[2], “What is the matter with it?”

[2] In terror and astonishment.

4 : 99

يَوۡمَئِذٖ تُحَدِّثُ أَخۡبَارَهَا

On that Day it will recount all its news,

5 : 99

بِأَنَّ رَبَّكَ أَوۡحَىٰ لَهَا

because your Lord has inspired it [to do so].

6 : 99

يَوۡمَئِذٖ يَصۡدُرُ ٱلنَّاسُ أَشۡتَاتٗا لِّيُرَوۡاْ أَعۡمَٰلَهُمۡ

On that Day all people will come forward in separate groups to be shown their deeds^[3].

[3] From the place of Judgment to see the consequences of their deeds, whether to Paradise or to Hell.

7 : 99

فَمَن يَعۡمَلۡ مِثۡقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ خَيۡرٗا يَرَهُۥ

So whoever does an atom’s weight^[4] of good will see it,

[4] Or a small ant’s weight.

8 : 99

وَمَن يَعۡمَلۡ مِثۡقَالَ ذَرَّةٖ شَرّٗا يَرَهُۥ

and whoever does an atom’s weight of evil will see it.
