Al-Ikhlās

1 : 112

قُلۡ هُوَ ٱللَّهُ أَحَدٌ

1. Say: He, Allāh, is One Only ^[1].

[1]. He alone is God, He has no partner, He is distinct from all else. He is The only true deity, unique in His essence, attributes, and actions. Allāh is One only, He has no second and He is not triune, He is not composed of three, He is One only. Great is Allāh and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can comprehend. Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness. Say to Allāh, 'How awesome are your deeds! So great is your power that your enemies cringe before you.

2 : 112

ٱللَّهُ ٱلصَّمَدُ

2. Allah, the Eternal Refuge ^[2].

[2]. The Absolute, the Perfect, the Self-sufficient, the Master Whom all creatures need, and Who needs nothing. He neither eats nor drinks. The One eternally and constantly sought. All existence depends upon Him, and all matters ultimately return to Him for decision.

3 : 112

لَمۡ يَلِدۡ وَلَمۡ يُولَدۡ

3. He begot none, nor was He begotten ^[3].

[3]. I.e., He has not fathered anyone, nor was He fathered. He has no son nor daughter and it is inappropriate to call Him (father). He has no father, mother, wife, children, or partner, nor is He in need of any thing of that. The right Name to call God is Allāh, or Rabb instead of Abb which means father. Rabb means Lord, Creator, Sustainer, Maintainer, and Ruler. Say 'Rabbi', which means my Lord, Creator, Sustainer, Cherisher, Ruler, etc. or 'Rabbana', which means Our Lord.

4 : 112

وَلَمۡ يَكُن لَّهُۥ كُفُوًا أَحَدُۢ

4. And there is none equivalent to Him ^[4].

[4]. There is none like Him, neither is there any god besides Him i.e., none is equal to Allāh or comparable to Him.
