[8]. This shows that Satan believes in Allah’s existence and power, but lacks obedience and submission.
It’s a faith of recognition, not of surrender — the faith of arrogance.
Iblīs asks to live until humanity is resurrected — i.e., until the Day of Judgment. His intention is not repentance, but revenge: to mislead and tempt the offspring of Adam until the end of time.
He did not ask for pardon, nor mercy, but only delay — that he might continue his mission of deceit and temptation against the children of Adam.
This reveals a profound truth: Even one accursed may call upon Allāh, but only repentance earns mercy; arrogance earns only delay, not forgiveness.
Arrogance can speak the language of worship, but without humility it brings only ruin. True faith requires submission, not mere recognition.
[9]. Allāh grants Iblīs the delay he asked for, not as mercy, but as part of His decree and wisdom until the appointed time, to complete the test of faith for humankind.
Thus began the era of temptation, struggle, and choice — where truth and falsehood run side by side until the Day of Judgment.
This shows that Allāh may grant requests even from the wicked — not as favor, but to fulfill divine purpose.
It also shows His absolute sovereignty: even Iblīs’s lifespan is by Allah’s permission, not by his own power.
