19 : 2

19.Or (their example is) like a rainstorm from the sky [9] within which is utter darkness, thunder, and lightning. They put their fingers in their ears against the thunderclaps fearing death. But Allāh encompasses the disbelievers. info

[9]. Allāh gave another example of the condition of the hypocrites with the Qur’an and Islam. It is like heavy rain descended upon people in a desert, a downpour accompanied by dense darkness, thunder, and lightning. This prompted them to put their fingers in their ears due to fear of perdition, trying to avoid danger in a way that does not protect them from it. This is the case with the hypocrites when the Qur’an is revealed and hear what's in it of the warnings, they would deafen their ears so they would not benefit from its warning. They would not believe in the truth of the verses of the Qur’an, nor abandon the falsehood. Their admonition in the Qur’an and how it reveals their truth are akin to deafening thunderclaps penetrating their eardrums. Allāh encompasses the deniers with His knowledge and power, so they cannot escape Him or cause Him failure.
