Al-Anbiyā’

آیه: 1

ٱقۡتَرَبَ لِلنَّاسِ حِسَابُهُمۡ وَهُمۡ فِي غَفۡلَةٖ مُّعۡرِضُونَ

1. The (Day of) reckoning (Judgment) draws near to the people, while they turn away in heedlessness¹.

1. A common disease that we find among many people today is the disease of heedlessness or negligence, in the Islamic context it is the sin of forgetting God and the purpose behind one’s existence and one’s duty to Allah (God), and simultaneously forgetting one’s eventual abode. This phenomenon is becoming more and more widespread among many people as they move further and further away from the true religion of God, Islam, and indulge themselves deeper into the world and what it has to offer of ephemeral pleasures. They get taken away by the fast-paced society they live in today and become forever lost in it as the world pulls them deeper into their state of heedlessness. Allah has described such people in the Qur’an as having insight into the affairs of the wordly life while being completely heedless and negligent of the affairs of the Hereafter life.

آیه: 2

مَا يَأۡتِيهِم مِّن ذِكۡرٖ مِّن رَّبِّهِم مُّحۡدَثٍ إِلَّا ٱسۡتَمَعُوهُ وَهُمۡ يَلۡعَبُونَ

2. Whenever a new Revelation comes to them from their Lord (Allah), they listen to it in a playful manner,

آیه: 3

لَاهِيَةٗ قُلُوبُهُمۡۗ وَأَسَرُّواْ ٱلنَّجۡوَى ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ هَلۡ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا بَشَرٞ مِّثۡلُكُمۡۖ أَفَتَأۡتُونَ ٱلسِّحۡرَ وَأَنتُمۡ تُبۡصِرُونَ

3. Their hearts preoccupied with trivial delights. The unjust ones² whisper to each other (saying): "Is this (Muhammad) more than a mortal man like yourselves? Will you then submit to sorcery while you see it?"

2. Those who associate others with Allah.

آیه: 4

قَالَ رَبِّي يَعۡلَمُ ٱلۡقَوۡلَ فِي ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ وَهُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلۡعَلِيمُ

4. He (the Prophet Muhammad) said: "My Lord (Allah) knows what is spoken in the heaven and the earth, for He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing."

آیه: 5

بَلۡ قَالُوٓاْ أَضۡغَٰثُ أَحۡلَٰمِۭ بَلِ ٱفۡتَرَىٰهُ بَلۡ هُوَ شَاعِرٞ فَلۡيَأۡتِنَا بِـَٔايَةٖ كَمَآ أُرۡسِلَ ٱلۡأَوَّلُونَ

5. Yet they say: "(This Qur’an) is muddled dreams. Rather, he has invented it. Rather, he is a poet; so let him bring to us a Sign like the former (Prophets) were sent with."

آیه: 6

مَآ ءَامَنَتۡ قَبۡلَهُم مِّن قَرۡيَةٍ أَهۡلَكۡنَٰهَآۖ أَفَهُمۡ يُؤۡمِنُونَ

6. Not any (sinful) town which We destroyed believed before them³, will they then believe?

3. Even though they had witnessed Signs.

آیه: 7

وَمَآ أَرۡسَلۡنَا قَبۡلَكَ إِلَّا رِجَالٗا نُّوحِيٓ إِلَيۡهِمۡۖ فَسۡـَٔلُوٓاْ أَهۡلَ ٱلذِّكۡرِ إِن كُنتُمۡ لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ

7. We did not send before you (Muhammad) but men to whom We sent Revelation; so ask the followers of the (past) Scripture, if you do not know.

آیه: 8

وَمَا جَعَلۡنَٰهُمۡ جَسَدٗا لَّا يَأۡكُلُونَ ٱلطَّعَامَ وَمَا كَانُواْ خَٰلِدِينَ

8. We did not make for them (the prophets) bodies that do not eat, nor were they immortals.

آیه: 9

ثُمَّ صَدَقۡنَٰهُمُ ٱلۡوَعۡدَ فَأَنجَيۡنَٰهُمۡ وَمَن نَّشَآءُ وَأَهۡلَكۡنَا ٱلۡمُسۡرِفِينَ

9. Then We fulfilled Our promise to them, so We delivered them and those whom We willed (their followers who believed). And We caused to perish those who transgressed beyond bounds.

آیه: 10

لَقَدۡ أَنزَلۡنَآ إِلَيۡكُمۡ كِتَٰبٗا فِيهِ ذِكۡرُكُمۡۚ أَفَلَا تَعۡقِلُونَ

10. We have certainly sent down to you a Book (the Qur’an) in which contains your Reminder4; will you not then understand?

4. Or your honor for the ones who believe in it.

آیه: 11

وَكَمۡ قَصَمۡنَا مِن قَرۡيَةٖ كَانَتۡ ظَالِمَةٗ وَأَنشَأۡنَا بَعۡدَهَا قَوۡمًا ءَاخَرِينَ

11. How many a town which was unjust have We destroyed, and We raised up after it another people.

آیه: 12

فَلَمَّآ أَحَسُّواْ بَأۡسَنَآ إِذَا هُم مِّنۡهَا يَرۡكُضُونَ

12. So when they felt Our mighty strike coming, at once they (tried to) flee from it.

آیه: 13

لَا تَرۡكُضُواْ وَٱرۡجِعُوٓاْ إِلَىٰ مَآ أُتۡرِفۡتُمۡ فِيهِ وَمَسَٰكِنِكُمۡ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تُسۡـَٔلُونَ

13. (The angels said): "Do not flee (now), but come back to your luxuries and your dwellings5,so that you may be questioned."

5. This is said to them in ridicule.

آیه: 14

قَالُواْ يَٰوَيۡلَنَآ إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَٰلِمِينَ

14. They said: "O woe to us. We were unjust."

آیه: 15

فَمَا زَالَت تِّلۡكَ دَعۡوَىٰهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ جَعَلۡنَٰهُمۡ حَصِيدًا خَٰمِدِينَ

15. This ceased not to be their cry till We made them as a field reaped, still, and silent.

آیه: 16

وَمَا خَلَقۡنَا ٱلسَّمَآءَ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَا لَٰعِبِينَ

16. We did not create the heaven and the earth and what is between them just for fun6.

6. I.e., without purpose.

آیه: 17

لَوۡ أَرَدۡنَآ أَن نَّتَّخِذَ لَهۡوٗا لَّٱتَّخَذۡنَٰهُ مِن لَّدُنَّآ إِن كُنَّا فَٰعِلِينَ

17. Had We intended to take a pastime7, We would have taken it from (what is) Our presence, but We were by no means to do8.

7. I.e. a wife or a son.
8. Such a thing, Glory be to Allah, He is Highly Exalted above that.

آیه: 18

بَلۡ نَقۡذِفُ بِٱلۡحَقِّ عَلَى ٱلۡبَٰطِلِ فَيَدۡمَغُهُۥ فَإِذَا هُوَ زَاهِقٞۚ وَلَكُمُ ٱلۡوَيۡلُ مِمَّا تَصِفُونَ

18. Rather, We cast the Truth upon falsehood, so that it breaks its head, and at once it vanishes. Woe to you for what you ascribe (to Allah, of a partner or son).

آیه: 19

وَلَهُۥ مَن فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ وَمَنۡ عِندَهُۥ لَا يَسۡتَكۡبِرُونَ عَنۡ عِبَادَتِهِۦ وَلَا يَسۡتَحۡسِرُونَ

19. To (Allah) belongs whoever is in the heavens and the earth. Those (angels) who are near to Him are not arrogant to worship Him, nor are they weary (of His worship).

آیه: 20

يُسَبِّحُونَ ٱلَّيۡلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَ لَا يَفۡتُرُونَ

20. They glorify (Him) with praise by night and day; and they do not slacken.

آیه: 21

أَمِ ٱتَّخَذُوٓاْ ءَالِهَةٗ مِّنَ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ هُمۡ يُنشِرُونَ

21. Or have they taken gods from the earth who raise (the dead).

آیه: 22

لَوۡ كَانَ فِيهِمَآ ءَالِهَةٌ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ لَفَسَدَتَاۚ فَسُبۡحَٰنَ ٱللَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَرۡشِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ

22. If there had been therein (in the heavens and the earth) any gods except Allah, they would both have certainly been in a state of disorder. Glory be to Allah, the Lord of the Throne - High above what they attribute (to Him).

آیه: 23

لَا يُسۡـَٔلُ عَمَّا يَفۡعَلُ وَهُمۡ يُسۡـَٔلُونَ

23. He cannot be questioned about what He does, but they will be questioned.

آیه: 24

أَمِ ٱتَّخَذُواْ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ ءَالِهَةٗۖ قُلۡ هَاتُواْ بُرۡهَٰنَكُمۡۖ هَٰذَا ذِكۡرُ مَن مَّعِيَ وَذِكۡرُ مَن قَبۡلِيۚ بَلۡ أَكۡثَرُهُمۡ لَا يَعۡلَمُونَ ٱلۡحَقَّۖ فَهُم مُّعۡرِضُونَ

24. Or, have they taken gods besides Him? Say: "Bring your proof. This (Qur’an) is the Reminder of those with me and the Reminder of those before me." But most of them do not know the Truth, and so they turn away.

آیه: 25

وَمَآ أَرۡسَلۡنَا مِن قَبۡلِكَ مِن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا نُوحِيٓ إِلَيۡهِ أَنَّهُۥ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّآ أَنَا۠ فَٱعۡبُدُونِ

25. We did not send before you (Muhammad) any Messenger but We revealed to him that there is no (true) God except Allah, so worship Me alone.

آیه: 26

وَقَالُواْ ٱتَّخَذَ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنُ وَلَدٗاۗ سُبۡحَٰنَهُۥۚ بَلۡ عِبَادٞ مُّكۡرَمُونَ

26. (Yet) they say: "The Most Gracious (Allah) has taken for Himself a son." Glory be to Him. Rather, they are honored servants (of Allah)9.

9. Those whom they call sons or daughters of God, e.g., Jesus, the angels.

آیه: 27

لَا يَسۡبِقُونَهُۥ بِٱلۡقَوۡلِ وَهُم بِأَمۡرِهِۦ يَعۡمَلُونَ

27. They do not precede Him in speech and by His Command (alone) do they act.

آیه: 28

يَعۡلَمُ مَا بَيۡنَ أَيۡدِيهِمۡ وَمَا خَلۡفَهُمۡ وَلَا يَشۡفَعُونَ إِلَّا لِمَنِ ٱرۡتَضَىٰ وَهُم مِّنۡ خَشۡيَتِهِۦ مُشۡفِقُونَ

28. He knows what is before them and what is behind them, and they do not intercede except for him whom He approves, and for awe of Allah they stand in reverence and humility.

آیه: 29

۞ وَمَن يَقُلۡ مِنۡهُمۡ إِنِّيٓ إِلَٰهٞ مِّن دُونِهِۦ فَذَٰلِكَ نَجۡزِيهِ جَهَنَّمَۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نَجۡزِي ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ

29. Whoever of them should say: "I am a god besides Allah - such a one do We recompense with Gehinnom (Hell). Thus do We recompense the unjust."

آیه: 30

أَوَلَمۡ يَرَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓاْ أَنَّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ كَانَتَا رَتۡقٗا فَفَتَقۡنَٰهُمَاۖ وَجَعَلۡنَا مِنَ ٱلۡمَآءِ كُلَّ شَيۡءٍ حَيٍّۚ أَفَلَا يُؤۡمِنُونَ

30. Do not those who deny (the Truth) see that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and then We parted them. We have made from water every living thing. Will they not then believe?

آیه: 31

وَجَعَلۡنَا فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ رَوَٰسِيَ أَن تَمِيدَ بِهِمۡ وَجَعَلۡنَا فِيهَا فِجَاجٗا سُبُلٗا لَّعَلَّهُمۡ يَهۡتَدُونَ

31. We have placed firm mountains on the earth lest it should shake with them, and We have placed in it wide ways that they may follow the right way.

آیه: 32

وَجَعَلۡنَا ٱلسَّمَآءَ سَقۡفٗا مَّحۡفُوظٗاۖ وَهُمۡ عَنۡ ءَايَٰتِهَا مُعۡرِضُونَ

32. We (Allah) have made the sky a guarded canopy and (yet) they turn away from its signs.

آیه: 33

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِي خَلَقَ ٱلَّيۡلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَ وَٱلشَّمۡسَ وَٱلۡقَمَرَۖ كُلّٞ فِي فَلَكٖ يَسۡبَحُونَ

33. It is He (Allah) Who created the night and the day and the sun and the moon. Each traveling along swiftly in their celestial spheres.

آیه: 34

وَمَا جَعَلۡنَا لِبَشَرٖ مِّن قَبۡلِكَ ٱلۡخُلۡدَۖ أَفَإِيْن مِّتَّ فَهُمُ ٱلۡخَٰلِدُونَ

34. We did not grant immortality for any human being before you (Muhammad). Then if you die, will they live forever?

آیه: 35

كُلُّ نَفۡسٖ ذَآئِقَةُ ٱلۡمَوۡتِۗ وَنَبۡلُوكُم بِٱلشَّرِّ وَٱلۡخَيۡرِ فِتۡنَةٗۖ وَإِلَيۡنَا تُرۡجَعُونَ

35. Every soul shall taste death. We test you through hardship and prosperity as a trial10; and to Us you shall all be returned.

10. If the trial we face involves an inducement to evil, we should not regard the inducement to evil as coming from Allah. Allah does not will anyone to sin, and He does not tempt us to sin. Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of Allah; for Allah doesn't use evil to tempt others. The trial, not the sin, is His aim. Trials are designed to refine us as gold is refined by fire.

آیه: 36

وَإِذَا رَءَاكَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓاْ إِن يَتَّخِذُونَكَ إِلَّا هُزُوًا أَهَٰذَا ٱلَّذِي يَذۡكُرُ ءَالِهَتَكُمۡ وَهُم بِذِكۡرِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ هُمۡ كَٰفِرُونَ

36. When those who deny (the Oneness of God) see you, they do not take you except for one to be mocked (saying): "Is this the one who speaks of your gods?" And they are deniers when (Allah) the Most Gracious is mentioned alone (with no partners).

آیه: 37

خُلِقَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ مِنۡ عَجَلٖۚ سَأُوْرِيكُمۡ ءَايَٰتِي فَلَا تَسۡتَعۡجِلُونِ

37. Man is created of haste. I will show to you My signs, so do not ask Me to hasten (them) on.

آیه: 38

وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَٰذَا ٱلۡوَعۡدُ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَٰدِقِينَ

38. They say: "When will this Threat be fulfilled, if you are truthful?"

آیه: 39

لَوۡ يَعۡلَمُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ حِينَ لَا يَكُفُّونَ عَن وُجُوهِهِمُ ٱلنَّارَ وَلَا عَن ظُهُورِهِمۡ وَلَا هُمۡ يُنصَرُونَ

39. If only those who denied (the Truth) but knew (of the time) when they will not be able to ward off the Fire from their faces nor from their backs, nor will they be helped.

آیه: 40

بَلۡ تَأۡتِيهِم بَغۡتَةٗ فَتَبۡهَتُهُمۡ فَلَا يَسۡتَطِيعُونَ رَدَّهَا وَلَا هُمۡ يُنظَرُونَ

40. Rather, it will come on them all of a sudden, and cause them to become confounded, so they shall not have any power to avert it, nor will they be given respite.

آیه: 41

وَلَقَدِ ٱسۡتُهۡزِئَ بِرُسُلٖ مِّن قَبۡلِكَ فَحَاقَ بِٱلَّذِينَ سَخِرُواْ مِنۡهُم مَّا كَانُواْ بِهِۦ يَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ

41. Indeed (many) messengers before you were ridiculed, but those who mocked them were overtaken by the very thing they used to ridicule.

آیه: 42

قُلۡ مَن يَكۡلَؤُكُم بِٱلَّيۡلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِ مِنَ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِۚ بَلۡ هُمۡ عَن ذِكۡرِ رَبِّهِم مُّعۡرِضُونَ

42. Say: "Who guards you by night and by day from (the Torment of Allah) the Most Compassionate?" But, they turn away at the mention of their Lord (Allah alone).

آیه: 43

أَمۡ لَهُمۡ ءَالِهَةٞ تَمۡنَعُهُم مِّن دُونِنَاۚ لَا يَسۡتَطِيعُونَ نَصۡرَ أَنفُسِهِمۡ وَلَا هُم مِّنَّا يُصۡحَبُونَ

43. Or, have they gods who can defend them against Allah? They will not be able to assist themselves, nor will they be defended from (Allah).

آیه: 44

بَلۡ مَتَّعۡنَا هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ وَءَابَآءَهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ طَالَ عَلَيۡهِمُ ٱلۡعُمُرُۗ أَفَلَا يَرَوۡنَ أَنَّا نَأۡتِي ٱلۡأَرۡضَ نَنقُصُهَا مِنۡ أَطۡرَافِهَآۚ أَفَهُمُ ٱلۡغَٰلِبُونَ

44. But We gave the good things of this life to these and their fathers until the period grew long for them. Do they (the pagans) not see that We gradually reduce the land (in their control) from its outlying borders? Will they then prevail?

آیه: 45

قُلۡ إِنَّمَآ أُنذِرُكُم بِٱلۡوَحۡيِۚ وَلَا يَسۡمَعُ ٱلصُّمُّ ٱلدُّعَآءَ إِذَا مَا يُنذَرُونَ

45. Say (Muhammad): "I warn you only by the Revelation (the Qur'an)." But the deaf do not hear the call whenever they are warned.

آیه: 46

وَلَئِن مَّسَّتۡهُمۡ نَفۡحَةٞ مِّنۡ عَذَابِ رَبِّكَ لَيَقُولُنَّ يَٰوَيۡلَنَآ إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَٰلِمِينَ

46. If a Blast of the Torment of (Allah) your Lord were to touch them, they will certainly say: "O woe to us. We were unjust."

آیه: 47

وَنَضَعُ ٱلۡمَوَٰزِينَ ٱلۡقِسۡطَ لِيَوۡمِ ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ فَلَا تُظۡلَمُ نَفۡسٞ شَيۡـٔٗاۖ وَإِن كَانَ مِثۡقَالَ حَبَّةٖ مِّنۡ خَرۡدَلٍ أَتَيۡنَا بِهَاۗ وَكَفَىٰ بِنَا حَٰسِبِينَ

47. We shall set up a just balance on the Day of Resurrection, so no soul will be dealt with unjustly in the least. (Every deed) even if it be the weight of a grain of mustard seed, We shall bring it. Enough are We as a Reckoner.

آیه: 48

وَلَقَدۡ ءَاتَيۡنَا مُوسَىٰ وَهَٰرُونَ ٱلۡفُرۡقَانَ وَضِيَآءٗ وَذِكۡرٗا لِّلۡمُتَّقِينَ

48. We gave to Moses and Aaron the Standard (to distinguish between right and wrong) and a Light and a Reminder (i.e., the Torah) for the righteous.

آیه: 49

ٱلَّذِينَ يَخۡشَوۡنَ رَبَّهُم بِٱلۡغَيۡبِ وَهُم مِّنَ ٱلسَّاعَةِ مُشۡفِقُونَ

49. Those who fear their Lord (Allah) though unseen11 and they are apprehensive of the Hour (of Doom).

11. Or when they are in private and not seen by others.

   

آیه: 50

وَهَٰذَا ذِكۡرٞ مُّبَارَكٌ أَنزَلۡنَٰهُۚ أَفَأَنتُمۡ لَهُۥ مُنكِرُونَ

50. This (Qur’an) is a Blessed Reminder which We have sent down (after the Torah and the Gospel). Will you then deny it?

آیه: 51

۞ وَلَقَدۡ ءَاتَيۡنَآ إِبۡرَٰهِيمَ رُشۡدَهُۥ مِن قَبۡلُ وَكُنَّا بِهِۦ عَٰلِمِينَ

51. We had certainly given Abraham his uprightness (and guidance) before, and We knew him fully well.

آیه: 52

إِذۡ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوۡمِهِۦ مَا هَٰذِهِ ٱلتَّمَاثِيلُ ٱلَّتِيٓ أَنتُمۡ لَهَا عَٰكِفُونَ

52. When he said to his father and his people: "What are these images to whose worship you are devoted?"

آیه: 53

قَالُواْ وَجَدۡنَآ ءَابَآءَنَا لَهَا عَٰبِدِينَ

53. They said: "We found our fathers worshiping them."

آیه: 54

قَالَ لَقَدۡ كُنتُمۡ أَنتُمۡ وَءَابَآؤُكُمۡ فِي ضَلَٰلٖ مُّبِينٖ

54. (Abraham) said: "You have been, (both) you and your fathers in manifest error."

آیه: 55

قَالُوٓاْ أَجِئۡتَنَا بِٱلۡحَقِّ أَمۡ أَنتَ مِنَ ٱللَّٰعِبِينَ

55. They said: "Have you brought to us the Truth, or are you joking?"

آیه: 56

قَالَ بَل رَّبُّكُمۡ رَبُّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ ٱلَّذِي فَطَرَهُنَّ وَأَنَا۠ عَلَىٰ ذَٰلِكُم مِّنَ ٱلشَّٰهِدِينَ

56. He said: "No, Rather (Allah) your Lord, is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who brought them into existence, and I am of those who bear witness to this.

آیه: 57

وَتَٱللَّهِ لَأَكِيدَنَّ أَصۡنَٰمَكُم بَعۡدَ أَن تُوَلُّواْ مُدۡبِرِينَ

57. By Allah, I will do something against your idols after you go away, turning back."

آیه: 58

فَجَعَلَهُمۡ جُذَٰذًا إِلَّا كَبِيرٗا لَّهُمۡ لَعَلَّهُمۡ إِلَيۡهِ يَرۡجِعُونَ

58. So he broke them (the idols) into pieces, except the biggest of them, that they may return to it.

آیه: 59

قَالُواْ مَن فَعَلَ هَٰذَا بِـَٔالِهَتِنَآ إِنَّهُۥ لَمِنَ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ

59. They said: "Who has done this to our gods (idols)? He is an unjust person."

آیه: 60

قَالُواْ سَمِعۡنَا فَتٗى يَذۡكُرُهُمۡ يُقَالُ لَهُۥٓ إِبۡرَٰهِيمُ

60. They said: "We heard a youth called Abraham speak of them."

آیه: 61

قَالُواْ فَأۡتُواْ بِهِۦ عَلَىٰٓ أَعۡيُنِ ٱلنَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَشۡهَدُونَ

61. They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, perhaps they may bear witness."

آیه: 62

قَالُوٓاْ ءَأَنتَ فَعَلۡتَ هَٰذَا بِـَٔالِهَتِنَا يَٰٓإِبۡرَٰهِيمُ

62. They said: "Have you done this to our gods (idols), O Abraham?"

آیه: 63

قَالَ بَلۡ فَعَلَهُۥ كَبِيرُهُمۡ هَٰذَا فَسۡـَٔلُوهُمۡ إِن كَانُواْ يَنطِقُونَ

63. He said: "Rather, this one, the biggest of them (the idols) did it, so ask them - if they can speak."

آیه: 64

فَرَجَعُوٓاْ إِلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِهِمۡ فَقَالُوٓاْ إِنَّكُمۡ أَنتُمُ ٱلظَّٰلِمُونَ

64. Then they turned to themselves and said (to one another): "You yourselves are the unjust."

آیه: 65

ثُمَّ نُكِسُواْ عَلَىٰ رُءُوسِهِمۡ لَقَدۡ عَلِمۡتَ مَا هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ يَنطِقُونَ

65. Then they were utterly confounded with shame. (They said): "Abraham, you know that idols do not speak."

آیه: 66

قَالَ أَفَتَعۡبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا يَنفَعُكُمۡ شَيۡـٔٗا وَلَا يَضُرُّكُمۡ

66. (Abraham) said: "Do you then, instead of Allah, worship idols that can neither benefit you in the least, nor harm you?

آیه: 67

أُفّٖ لَّكُمۡ وَلِمَا تَعۡبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِۚ أَفَلَا تَعۡقِلُونَ

67. Fie on you and on what you worship besides Allah. Have you no sense?"

آیه: 68

قَالُواْ حَرِّقُوهُ وَٱنصُرُوٓاْ ءَالِهَتَكُمۡ إِن كُنتُمۡ فَٰعِلِينَ

68. They said: "Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do (anything)."

آیه: 69

قُلۡنَا يَٰنَارُ كُونِي بَرۡدٗا وَسَلَٰمًا عَلَىٰٓ إِبۡرَٰهِيمَ

69. (Allah) said: "O fire, be cool and peaceful for Abraham."

آیه: 70

وَأَرَادُواْ بِهِۦ كَيۡدٗا فَجَعَلۡنَٰهُمُ ٱلۡأَخۡسَرِينَ

70. They had devised an evil plan for Abraham, but We turned it into failure on them.

آیه: 71

وَنَجَّيۡنَٰهُ وَلُوطًا إِلَى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ ٱلَّتِي بَٰرَكۡنَا فِيهَا لِلۡعَٰلَمِينَ

71. We delivered Abraham and Lot safely to the land12 which We blessed for all people.

12. i.e., the Levant: Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria.

آیه: 72

وَوَهَبۡنَا لَهُۥٓ إِسۡحَٰقَ وَيَعۡقُوبَ نَافِلَةٗۖ وَكُلّٗا جَعَلۡنَا صَٰلِحِينَ

72. And We granted him Isaac and (a grandson) Jacob as a gift, and all (of them) We made righteous.

آیه: 73

وَجَعَلۡنَٰهُمۡ أَئِمَّةٗ يَهۡدُونَ بِأَمۡرِنَا وَأَوۡحَيۡنَآ إِلَيۡهِمۡ فِعۡلَ ٱلۡخَيۡرَٰتِ وَإِقَامَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ وَإِيتَآءَ ٱلزَّكَوٰةِۖ وَكَانُواْ لَنَا عَٰبِدِينَ

73. We appointed them as leaders, guiding (people) by Our command. And We inspired to them the doing of good, keeping up the prayer, and giving of the alms. And God (Allah alone) did they worship;

آیه: 74

وَلُوطًا ءَاتَيۡنَٰهُ حُكۡمٗا وَعِلۡمٗا وَنَجَّيۡنَٰهُ مِنَ ٱلۡقَرۡيَةِ ٱلَّتِي كَانَت تَّعۡمَلُ ٱلۡخَبَٰٓئِثَۚ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ قَوۡمَ سَوۡءٖ فَٰسِقِينَ

74. To Lot, We (Allah) gave sound judgment and knowledge, and delivered him from the town that was committing wicked deeds. They were an evil and rebellious people.

آیه: 75

وَأَدۡخَلۡنَٰهُ فِي رَحۡمَتِنَآۖ إِنَّهُۥ مِنَ ٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ

75. And We admitted him (Lot) into Our mercy; for he was of the righteous.

آیه: 76

وَنُوحًا إِذۡ نَادَىٰ مِن قَبۡلُ فَٱسۡتَجَبۡنَا لَهُۥ فَنَجَّيۡنَٰهُ وَأَهۡلَهُۥ مِنَ ٱلۡكَرۡبِ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ

76. (Mention) Noah, when he called (to Allah) before (that time), so We answered him, and delivered him and his family from the terrible distress (the great flood and his people’s denial of him).

آیه: 77

وَنَصَرۡنَٰهُ مِنَ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَآۚ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ قَوۡمَ سَوۡءٖ فَأَغۡرَقۡنَٰهُمۡ أَجۡمَعِينَ

77. We helped him against the people who denied Our signs. They were an evil people, so We drowned them all.

آیه: 78

وَدَاوُۥدَ وَسُلَيۡمَٰنَ إِذۡ يَحۡكُمَانِ فِي ٱلۡحَرۡثِ إِذۡ نَفَشَتۡ فِيهِ غَنَمُ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ وَكُنَّا لِحُكۡمِهِمۡ شَٰهِدِينَ

78. (Mention) David and Solomon, when they gave judgment concerning the field when the people’s sheep pastured therein by night. We were Bearers of witness to their judgment.

آیه: 79

فَفَهَّمۡنَٰهَا سُلَيۡمَٰنَۚ وَكُلًّا ءَاتَيۡنَا حُكۡمٗا وَعِلۡمٗاۚ وَسَخَّرۡنَا مَعَ دَاوُۥدَ ٱلۡجِبَالَ يُسَبِّحۡنَ وَٱلطَّيۡرَۚ وَكُنَّا فَٰعِلِينَ

79. So We made Solomon to understand it; and to each one (David and Solomon) We gave sound judgment and knowledge. We subjected the mountains and the birds to exalt (Allah) with David. And We (Allah) were the doers.

آیه: 80

وَعَلَّمۡنَٰهُ صَنۡعَةَ لَبُوسٖ لَّكُمۡ لِتُحۡصِنَكُم مِّنۢ بَأۡسِكُمۡۖ فَهَلۡ أَنتُمۡ شَٰكِرُونَ

80. We taught him (David) the making of coats of mail for you, that they might protect you in your wars. Will you then be grateful?

آیه: 81

وَلِسُلَيۡمَٰنَ ٱلرِّيحَ عَاصِفَةٗ تَجۡرِي بِأَمۡرِهِۦٓ إِلَى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ ٱلَّتِي بَٰرَكۡنَا فِيهَاۚ وَكُنَّا بِكُلِّ شَيۡءٍ عَٰلِمِينَ

81. (We made subservient) to Solomon the winds strongly raging, pursuing its course by his command to the land which We had blessed13. We (Allah) are Knowing of all things.

13. i.e., Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria.

آیه: 82

وَمِنَ ٱلشَّيَٰطِينِ مَن يَغُوصُونَ لَهُۥ وَيَعۡمَلُونَ عَمَلٗا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَۖ وَكُنَّا لَهُمۡ حَٰفِظِينَ

82. And We subdued the devils (from the jinn) who dive into the sea for him and perform other work besides that. And We kept them in his service.

آیه: 83

۞ وَأَيُّوبَ إِذۡ نَادَىٰ رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنِّي مَسَّنِيَ ٱلضُّرُّ وَأَنتَ أَرۡحَمُ ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ

83. (Mention) Job, when he called to (Allah) his Lord, (saying): "Adversity (illness and loss of family) has afflicted me, and You are the Most Merciful of the merciful.

آیه: 84

فَٱسۡتَجَبۡنَا لَهُۥ فَكَشَفۡنَا مَا بِهِۦ مِن ضُرّٖۖ وَءَاتَيۡنَٰهُ أَهۡلَهُۥ وَمِثۡلَهُم مَّعَهُمۡ رَحۡمَةٗ مِّنۡ عِندِنَا وَذِكۡرَىٰ لِلۡعَٰبِدِينَ

84. So We responded to him and removed what afflicted him of adversity, and We gave him his family and the like thereof with them as Mercy from Us and a Reminder for the worshippers (of Allah).

آیه: 85

وَإِسۡمَٰعِيلَ وَإِدۡرِيسَ وَذَا ٱلۡكِفۡلِۖ كُلّٞ مِّنَ ٱلصَّٰبِرِينَ

85. (Mention) Ishmael, Enoch and Ezekiel - all were of the patient ones.

آیه: 86

وَأَدۡخَلۡنَٰهُمۡ فِي رَحۡمَتِنَآۖ إِنَّهُم مِّنَ ٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ

86. We (Allah) admitted them to Our mercy, they were of the righteous ones.

آیه: 87

وَذَا ٱلنُّونِ إِذ ذَّهَبَ مُغَٰضِبٗا فَظَنَّ أَن لَّن نَّقۡدِرَ عَلَيۡهِ فَنَادَىٰ فِي ٱلظُّلُمَٰتِ أَن لَّآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّآ أَنتَ سُبۡحَٰنَكَ إِنِّي كُنتُ مِنَ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ

87. (Mention) the man of the Fish (Jonah), when he went off enraged (by the disbelief of his people), so he thought that We would not straiten him, so he cried out in the darknesses14, that there is no God except You (O Allah), Glory and Honor be to You; I have done wrong.

14. of the night, the sea, and the whale’s stomach

آیه: 88

فَٱسۡتَجَبۡنَا لَهُۥ وَنَجَّيۡنَٰهُ مِنَ ٱلۡغَمِّۚ وَكَذَٰلِكَ نُـۨجِي ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ

88. So We responded to him and delivered him from the grief and thus do We deliver the believers.

آیه: 89

وَزَكَرِيَّآ إِذۡ نَادَىٰ رَبَّهُۥ رَبِّ لَا تَذَرۡنِي فَرۡدٗا وَأَنتَ خَيۡرُ ٱلۡوَٰرِثِينَ

89. (Recall), when Zachariah called out to (Allah) his Lord (saying): "Lord, do not leave me childless; and You are the Best of inheritors."

آیه: 90

فَٱسۡتَجَبۡنَا لَهُۥ وَوَهَبۡنَا لَهُۥ يَحۡيَىٰ وَأَصۡلَحۡنَا لَهُۥ زَوۡجَهُۥٓۚ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ يُسَٰرِعُونَ فِي ٱلۡخَيۡرَٰتِ وَيَدۡعُونَنَا رَغَبٗا وَرَهَبٗاۖ وَكَانُواْ لَنَا خَٰشِعِينَ

90. So We responded to him and gave him Yahya (John) and made his wife fit (to bear children) for him. They used to race with one another to good deeds and (they) used to call upon Us (Allah alone) hoping and fearing, and they were humble before Us.

آیه: 91

وَٱلَّتِيٓ أَحۡصَنَتۡ فَرۡجَهَا فَنَفَخۡنَا فِيهَا مِن رُّوحِنَا وَجَعَلۡنَٰهَا وَٱبۡنَهَآ ءَايَةٗ لِّلۡعَٰلَمِينَ

91. (Mention) her (the Virgin Mary) who guarded her chastity, so We breathed into (the sleeves of) her (garment) through Our angel (Gabriel) and made her and her son (Jesus) a Sign for all people15.

15. Of Allah's Infinite Power and Greatness as He created Jesus without father, and his mother Mary bore him without having a partner.

آیه: 92

إِنَّ هَٰذِهِۦٓ أُمَّتُكُمۡ أُمَّةٗ وَٰحِدَةٗ وَأَنَا۠ رَبُّكُمۡ فَٱعۡبُدُونِ

92. Indeed, this, your religion, is one religion (Islam), and I am (Allah) your Lord, so worship Me (alone).

آیه: 93

وَتَقَطَّعُوٓاْ أَمۡرَهُم بَيۡنَهُمۡۖ كُلٌّ إِلَيۡنَا رَٰجِعُونَ

93. (Yet) they split their religion (into many sects) between them. They all shall return to Us.

آیه: 94

فَمَن يَعۡمَلۡ مِنَ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ وَهُوَ مُؤۡمِنٞ فَلَا كُفۡرَانَ لِسَعۡيِهِۦ وَإِنَّا لَهُۥ كَٰتِبُونَ

94. Whoever does of the good deeds, and is a believer, there will be no denying of his effort. We (Our angels) will record (their good deeds) for them.

آیه: 95

وَحَرَٰمٌ عَلَىٰ قَرۡيَةٍ أَهۡلَكۡنَٰهَآ أَنَّهُمۡ لَا يَرۡجِعُونَ

95. It is prohibited for a town which We have destroyed that they will return (to this world).

آیه: 96

حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا فُتِحَتۡ يَأۡجُوجُ وَمَأۡجُوجُ وَهُم مِّن كُلِّ حَدَبٖ يَنسِلُونَ

96. Until when (the dam of) Gog and Magog has been opened and they will descend from every elevated place16.

16. When Gog and Magog attacks the land of Levant, Allah will execute judgment upon them with plague and bloodshed. Thousands of invading soldiers lie unburied. Allah sends the birds of the air to pluck the flesh right off their bodies.

آیه: 97

وَٱقۡتَرَبَ ٱلۡوَعۡدُ ٱلۡحَقُّ فَإِذَا هِيَ شَٰخِصَةٌ أَبۡصَٰرُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ يَٰوَيۡلَنَا قَدۡ كُنَّا فِي غَفۡلَةٖ مِّنۡ هَٰذَا بَلۡ كُنَّا ظَٰلِمِينَ

97. The true Promise (of Resurrection) will draw near, then at once the eyes of the deniers will fixedly stare in horror (saying): "O woe to us, we were in a state of heedlessness of this; rather, we were workers of iniquity."

آیه: 98

إِنَّكُمۡ وَمَا تَعۡبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ حَصَبُ جَهَنَّمَ أَنتُمۡ لَهَا وَٰرِدُونَ

98. "You (deniers) and what you worship besides Allah are the fuel of Gehinnom (Hell); to it you shall come."

آیه: 99

لَوۡ كَانَ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ ءَالِهَةٗ مَّا وَرَدُوهَاۖ وَكُلّٞ فِيهَا خَٰلِدُونَ

99. Had the idols been true gods, they would not have gone to Hell. All of them will abide therein forever.

آیه: 100

لَهُمۡ فِيهَا زَفِيرٞ وَهُمۡ فِيهَا لَا يَسۡمَعُونَ

100. They will groan in pain therein, and they will not hear therein17.

17. Anyone else besides themselves and the intense raging of the Fire.

آیه: 101

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ سَبَقَتۡ لَهُم مِّنَّا ٱلۡحُسۡنَىٰٓ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ عَنۡهَا مُبۡعَدُونَ

101. Those for whom the best reward were promised, they will be kept far removed from it (Hell).

آیه: 102

لَا يَسۡمَعُونَ حَسِيسَهَاۖ وَهُمۡ فِي مَا ٱشۡتَهَتۡ أَنفُسُهُمۡ خَٰلِدُونَ

102. They will not hear the faintest sound from it (Hell), and they will abide in that which their own selves desire (Paradise).

آیه: 103

لَا يَحۡزُنُهُمُ ٱلۡفَزَعُ ٱلۡأَكۡبَرُ وَتَتَلَقَّىٰهُمُ ٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ هَٰذَا يَوۡمُكُمُ ٱلَّذِي كُنتُمۡ تُوعَدُونَ

103. The Great Fearful Event (of the Day of Resurrection) will not grieve them, and the angels will receive them with the greeting: "This is your Day which you were promised."

آیه: 104

يَوۡمَ نَطۡوِي ٱلسَّمَآءَ كَطَيِّ ٱلسِّجِلِّ لِلۡكُتُبِۚ كَمَا بَدَأۡنَآ أَوَّلَ خَلۡقٖ نُّعِيدُهُۥۚ وَعۡدًا عَلَيۡنَآۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا فَٰعِلِينَ

104. On the Day when We (Allah) shall roll up the sky like the rolling up of the scrolls for writings. As We began the first creation, (so) We will repeat it; a Promise (binding on Us). Certainly We shall do it.

آیه: 105

وَلَقَدۡ كَتَبۡنَا فِي ٱلزَّبُورِ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ ٱلذِّكۡرِ أَنَّ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ يَرِثُهَا عِبَادِيَ ٱلصَّٰلِحُونَ

105. Indeed We have written in the Psalm18 after the Torah that the land of (Paradise) will be inherited by My righteous servants.

18. Psalm 37:9: "For evil men will be done away with, but those hoping in Allah will possess the earth."
Psalm 37:29: "The righteous will possess the earth, and they will live forever on it."
Proverbs 2:21: "For only the upright will reside in the earth, and the blameless will remain in it."
Matthew 5:5 : “Happy are the mild-tempered, since they will inherit the earth."

آیه: 106

إِنَّ فِي هَٰذَا لَبَلَٰغٗا لِّقَوۡمٍ عَٰبِدِينَ

106. There is certainly a Message in this for a people who worship God (Allah alone).

آیه: 107

وَمَآ أَرۡسَلۡنَٰكَ إِلَّا رَحۡمَةٗ لِّلۡعَٰلَمِينَ

107. We have only sent you (Muhammad)19 as a Mercy to all creatures (mankind, jinn, etc)20.

19. If you verbally declare, “that there is no God except Allah and that Mohammad is God's servant and messenger,” and believe that in your heart, you will be saved from the Hellfire and admitted to heaven (Paradise).
20. The love and compassion of Allah's Messenger for all kinds of creatures was not of the kind claimed by today's 'humanists'. He was more compassionate than any other person. Muhammad was a Prophet raised by Allah, the Creator and Sustainer of all beings, for the guidance and happiness of conscious beings - mankind and jinn - and the harmony of existence. Therefore, he lived not for himself but for others; he was a mercy for all the worlds.

آیه: 108

قُلۡ إِنَّمَا يُوحَىٰٓ إِلَيَّ أَنَّمَآ إِلَٰهُكُمۡ إِلَٰهٞ وَٰحِدٞۖ فَهَلۡ أَنتُم مُّسۡلِمُونَ

108. Say (Muhammad): "It is only revealed to me that (Allah) your God is One God; will you then surrender to Him21?"

21. We must surrender everything to Allah. When we center our daily activities on Him, “trust in Him and do good, take delight in Him, and surrender to Him all our desires, problems, anxieties, and the daily events of our lives, Allah will direct us and give us peace. As believers in Allah, it’s vital for us to let Him determine what our lives should be. Let’s surrender and trust Allah. As we do, He will take action and do what’s necessary and best for us.

آیه: 109

فَإِن تَوَلَّوۡاْ فَقُلۡ ءَاذَنتُكُمۡ عَلَىٰ سَوَآءٖۖ وَإِنۡ أَدۡرِيٓ أَقَرِيبٌ أَم بَعِيدٞ مَّا تُوعَدُونَ

109. But if they turn away, say (Muhammad): "I have given you warning in fairness, and I do not know whether what you are threatened with is near or far."

آیه: 110

إِنَّهُۥ يَعۡلَمُ ٱلۡجَهۡرَ مِنَ ٱلۡقَوۡلِ وَيَعۡلَمُ مَا تَكۡتُمُونَ

110. Allah knows what is spoken openly and He knows what you hide.

آیه: 111

وَإِنۡ أَدۡرِي لَعَلَّهُۥ فِتۡنَةٞ لَّكُمۡ وَمَتَٰعٌ إِلَىٰ حِينٖ

111. I know not if this22 may be a trial for you and a provision till a time.

22. postponement of punishment

آیه: 112

قَٰلَ رَبِّ ٱحۡكُم بِٱلۡحَقِّۗ وَرَبُّنَا ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنُ ٱلۡمُسۡتَعَانُ عَلَىٰ مَا تَصِفُونَ

112. (The Prophet Muhammad) said: "O (Allah my) Lord, judge (between us) with Truth. (Allah) our Lord is the Most Compassionate Whose help is sought against the blasphemies you describe23."

23. Of untrue things to Allah, saying that He has taken a son or daughters, or that His messenger Muhammad is sorcerer or poet, or saying that the Qur’an is sorcery.
