Al-Anbiyā’

आयत: 1

ٱقۡتَرَبَ لِلنَّاسِ حِسَابُهُمۡ وَهُمۡ فِي غَفۡلَةٖ مُّعۡرِضُونَ

1. The 'time of' people's reckoning 'and Judgment' draws near, while they turn away in heedlessness¹.

1. A common disease that we find among many people today is the disease of heedlessness and negligence, in the Islamic context it is the sin of forgetting Allāh and the purpose behind one’s existence and one’s duty to Allāh 'God', and simultaneously forgetting one’s eventual abode. This phenomenon is becoming more and more widespread among many people as they move further and further away from the true religion of God, Islam, and indulge themselves deeper into the world and what it has to offer of ephemeral pleasures. They get taken away by the fast-paced society they live in today and become lost in it as the world pulls them deeper into their state of heedlessness. Allāh has described such people in the Qur’an as having insight into the affairs of the wordly life while being completely heedless and negligent of the affairs of the Hereafter life.

आयत: 2

مَا يَأۡتِيهِم مِّن ذِكۡرٖ مِّن رَّبِّهِم مُّحۡدَثٍ إِلَّا ٱسۡتَمَعُوهُ وَهُمۡ يَلۡعَبُونَ

2. Whenever an admonition comes to them from their Lord 'Allāh' as a recent revelation but they listen to it while playing,

आयत: 3

لَاهِيَةٗ قُلُوبُهُمۡۗ وَأَسَرُّواْ ٱلنَّجۡوَى ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ هَلۡ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا بَشَرٞ مِّثۡلُكُمۡۖ أَفَتَأۡتُونَ ٱلسِّحۡرَ وَأَنتُمۡ تُبۡصِرُونَ

3. With their hearts 'totally' distracted2. Those pagans counsel together in secret 'saying': "Is this 'Muhammad' more than a mortal man like yourselves? Will you then go into magic while you see it?"

2. There will be terrible times in the last days. Most people will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, ungodly, ungrateful... Being ungrateful to Allāh means turning away from him and His messenger, the Prophet Muhammad. That is why the Qur’an teaches us to carefully examine our hearts.

आयत: 4

قَالَ رَبِّي يَعۡلَمُ ٱلۡقَوۡلَ فِي ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ وَهُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلۡعَلِيمُ

4. He 'Muhammad' said: "My Lord knows what is spoken in the heaven and the earth, for He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing."

आयत: 5

بَلۡ قَالُوٓاْ أَضۡغَٰثُ أَحۡلَٰمِۭ بَلِ ٱفۡتَرَىٰهُ بَلۡ هُوَ شَاعِرٞ فَلۡيَأۡتِنَا بِـَٔايَةٖ كَمَآ أُرۡسِلَ ٱلۡأَوَّلُونَ

5. Yet they say: 'This Qur’an' is muddled dreams. Rather, he has invented it. Rather, he is a poet; so let him bring us a Sign like the former 'Prophets' were sent with."

आयत: 6

مَآ ءَامَنَتۡ قَبۡلَهُم مِّن قَرۡيَةٍ أَهۡلَكۡنَٰهَآۖ أَفَهُمۡ يُؤۡمِنُونَ

6. Not any 'sinful' town which We destroyed before them believed ³, will these 'pagans' then believe?

3. Even though they had witnessed Signs.

आयत: 7

وَمَآ أَرۡسَلۡنَا قَبۡلَكَ إِلَّا رِجَالٗا نُّوحِيٓ إِلَيۡهِمۡۖ فَسۡـَٔلُوٓاْ أَهۡلَ ٱلذِّكۡرِ إِن كُنتُمۡ لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ

7. We did not send before you 'Muhammad' any but men to whom We sent Revelation; so ask the people of the Reminder 'Divinely revealed Book', if you do not know.

आयत: 8

وَمَا جَعَلۡنَٰهُمۡ جَسَدٗا لَّا يَأۡكُلُونَ ٱلطَّعَامَ وَمَا كَانُواْ خَٰلِدِينَ

8. We did not make for them 'the prophets' bodies that do not need to eat food, nor were they immortals.

आयत: 9

ثُمَّ صَدَقۡنَٰهُمُ ٱلۡوَعۡدَ فَأَنجَيۡنَٰهُمۡ وَمَن نَّشَآءُ وَأَهۡلَكۡنَا ٱلۡمُسۡرِفِينَ

9. Then We fulfilled Our promise to them, so We delivered them and those whom We willed, and destroyed the transgressors.

आयत: 10

لَقَدۡ أَنزَلۡنَآ إِلَيۡكُمۡ كِتَٰبٗا فِيهِ ذِكۡرُكُمۡۚ أَفَلَا تَعۡقِلُونَ

10. 'O People,' We have certainly sent down to you a Book 'this Qur’an' in which there is an admonition for you4; will you not then understand?

4. Or an honor for the ones who believe in it and follow it's teachings.

आयत: 11

وَكَمۡ قَصَمۡنَا مِن قَرۡيَةٖ كَانَتۡ ظَالِمَةٗ وَأَنشَأۡنَا بَعۡدَهَا قَوۡمًا ءَاخَرِينَ

11. For, how many a town which was unjust have We shattered and raised up after it another people.

आयत: 12

فَلَمَّآ أَحَسُّواْ بَأۡسَنَآ إِذَا هُم مِّنۡهَا يَرۡكُضُونَ

12. So when they felt Our chastisement coming, at once they 'tried to' flee from it.

आयत: 13

لَا تَرۡكُضُواْ وَٱرۡجِعُوٓاْ إِلَىٰ مَآ أُتۡرِفۡتُمۡ فِيهِ وَمَسَٰكِنِكُمۡ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تُسۡـَٔلُونَ

13. "The angels said': "Do not flee 'now', but come back to your luxuries and your dwellings5,so that you may be questioned."

5. This is said to them in ridicule.

आयत: 14

قَالُواْ يَٰوَيۡلَنَآ إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَٰلِمِينَ

14. They said: "O woe to us. We were indeed wrongdoers."

आयत: 15

فَمَا زَالَت تِّلۡكَ دَعۡوَىٰهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ جَعَلۡنَٰهُمۡ حَصِيدًا خَٰمِدِينَ

15. This ceased not to be their cry till We made them as a field reaped, still, and silent.

आयत: 16

وَمَا خَلَقۡنَا ٱلسَّمَآءَ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَا لَٰعِبِينَ

16. We did not create the heaven and the earth and what is between them just for fun6.

6. I.e., without purpose.

आयत: 17

لَوۡ أَرَدۡنَآ أَن نَّتَّخِذَ لَهۡوٗا لَّٱتَّخَذۡنَٰهُ مِن لَّدُنَّآ إِن كُنَّا فَٰعِلِينَ

17. Had We intended to take a pastime7, We would have taken it from 'what is' Our presence, if We were doers8.

7. I.e. a wife or a son.
8. Such a thing, Glory be to Allāh, He is Highly Exalted above that.

आयत: 18

بَلۡ نَقۡذِفُ بِٱلۡحَقِّ عَلَى ٱلۡبَٰطِلِ فَيَدۡمَغُهُۥ فَإِذَا هُوَ زَاهِقٞۚ وَلَكُمُ ٱلۡوَيۡلُ مِمَّا تَصِفُونَ

18. Rather, We hurl the Truth upon falsehood, and it crushes it, so it vanishes. Woe to you for what you ascribe 'to Allāh, of a partner or son'.

आयत: 19

وَلَهُۥ مَن فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ وَمَنۡ عِندَهُۥ لَا يَسۡتَكۡبِرُونَ عَنۡ عِبَادَتِهِۦ وَلَا يَسۡتَحۡسِرُونَ

19. To Him 'Allāh' belongs whoever is in the heavens and the earth. Those 'angels' who are near to Him are not arrogant to worship Him, nor are they weary 'of His worship'.

आयत: 20

يُسَبِّحُونَ ٱلَّيۡلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَ لَا يَفۡتُرُونَ

20. They glorify 'Him' night and day 'and' do not slacken.

आयत: 21

أَمِ ٱتَّخَذُوٓاْ ءَالِهَةٗ مِّنَ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ هُمۡ يُنشِرُونَ

21. Or have they taken gods from the earth, who can raise 'the dead'.

आयत: 22

لَوۡ كَانَ فِيهِمَآ ءَالِهَةٌ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ لَفَسَدَتَاۚ فَسُبۡحَٰنَ ٱللَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَرۡشِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ

22. Had there been therein 'in the heavens and the earth' any gods except Allāh, they would both have certainly been in a state of disorder. Glory be to Allāh, the Lord of the Throne - High above what they attribute 'to Him'.

आयत: 23

لَا يُسۡـَٔلُ عَمَّا يَفۡعَلُ وَهُمۡ يُسۡـَٔلُونَ

23. He cannot be questioned about what He does, but they will be 'all' questioned.

आयत: 24

أَمِ ٱتَّخَذُواْ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ ءَالِهَةٗۖ قُلۡ هَاتُواْ بُرۡهَٰنَكُمۡۖ هَٰذَا ذِكۡرُ مَن مَّعِيَ وَذِكۡرُ مَن قَبۡلِيۚ بَلۡ أَكۡثَرُهُمۡ لَا يَعۡلَمُونَ ٱلۡحَقَّۖ فَهُم مُّعۡرِضُونَ

24. Or, have they taken other gods besides Him? Say: "Bring your proof. This 'Qur’an' is the reminder of those with me and 'it also contains' the reminder of those before me." But most of them do not know the Truth, and so they turn away.

आयत: 25

وَمَآ أَرۡسَلۡنَا مِن قَبۡلِكَ مِن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا نُوحِيٓ إِلَيۡهِ أَنَّهُۥ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّآ أَنَا۠ فَٱعۡبُدُونِ

25. We sent not before you 'Muhammad' any Messenger but We revealed to him that there is no god 'worthy of worship' except Me, so worship Me alone.

आयत: 26

وَقَالُواْ ٱتَّخَذَ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنُ وَلَدٗاۗ سُبۡحَٰنَهُۥۚ بَلۡ عِبَادٞ مُّكۡرَمُونَ

26. Yet they say: "The Most Gracious 'Allāh' has taken to Himself a son." Glory be to Him. Rather, they are honored servants 'of Allāh'9.

9. Those whom they call sons or daughters of God, e.g., Jesus, the angels.

आयत: 27

لَا يَسۡبِقُونَهُۥ بِٱلۡقَوۡلِ وَهُم بِأَمۡرِهِۦ يَعۡمَلُونَ

27. They do not precede Him in speech and by His Command 'alone' do they act.

आयत: 28

يَعۡلَمُ مَا بَيۡنَ أَيۡدِيهِمۡ وَمَا خَلۡفَهُمۡ وَلَا يَشۡفَعُونَ إِلَّا لِمَنِ ٱرۡتَضَىٰ وَهُم مِّنۡ خَشۡيَتِهِۦ مُشۡفِقُونَ

28. He knows what is before them and what is behind them, and they do not intercede except for him whom He approves, and for awe of Him they stand in reverence and humility.

आयत: 29

۞ وَمَن يَقُلۡ مِنۡهُمۡ إِنِّيٓ إِلَٰهٞ مِّن دُونِهِۦ فَذَٰلِكَ نَجۡزِيهِ جَهَنَّمَۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نَجۡزِي ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ

29. Whoever of them should say: "I am a god besides Him - such a one do We recompense with Gehinnom 'Hell'. Thus do We recompense the unjust."

आयत: 30

أَوَلَمۡ يَرَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓاْ أَنَّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ كَانَتَا رَتۡقٗا فَفَتَقۡنَٰهُمَاۖ وَجَعَلۡنَا مِنَ ٱلۡمَآءِ كُلَّ شَيۡءٍ حَيٍّۚ أَفَلَا يُؤۡمِنُونَ

30. Do not those who deny 'the Truth' see that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and then We parted them. We have made from water every living thing. Will they not then believe?

आयत: 31

وَجَعَلۡنَا فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ رَوَٰسِيَ أَن تَمِيدَ بِهِمۡ وَجَعَلۡنَا فِيهَا فِجَاجٗا سُبُلٗا لَّعَلَّهُمۡ يَهۡتَدُونَ

31. We have placed firm mountains on the earth lest it should shake with them, and We made in it broad pathways that they may find their way.

आयत: 32

وَجَعَلۡنَا ٱلسَّمَآءَ سَقۡفٗا مَّحۡفُوظٗاۖ وَهُمۡ عَنۡ ءَايَٰتِهَا مُعۡرِضُونَ

32. We have made the sky a guarded canopy and yet they turn away from its signs.

आयत: 33

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِي خَلَقَ ٱلَّيۡلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَ وَٱلشَّمۡسَ وَٱلۡقَمَرَۖ كُلّٞ فِي فَلَكٖ يَسۡبَحُونَ

33. It is He 'Allāh' Who created the night and the day and the sun and the moon. Each floating in an orbit.

आयत: 34

وَمَا جَعَلۡنَا لِبَشَرٖ مِّن قَبۡلِكَ ٱلۡخُلۡدَۖ أَفَإِيْن مِّتَّ فَهُمُ ٱلۡخَٰلِدُونَ

34. We did not grant immortality for any human being before you 'Muhammad'. So if you die, will they live forever?

आयत: 35

كُلُّ نَفۡسٖ ذَآئِقَةُ ٱلۡمَوۡتِۗ وَنَبۡلُوكُم بِٱلشَّرِّ وَٱلۡخَيۡرِ فِتۡنَةٗۖ وَإِلَيۡنَا تُرۡجَعُونَ

35. Every soul will taste death. We test you with adversity and prosperity as a trial10; and to Us you will 'all' be returned.

10. If the trial we face involves an inducement to evil, we should not regard the inducement to evil as coming from Allāh. Allāh does not will anyone to sin, and He does not tempt us to sin. Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of Allāh; for Allāh doesn't use evil to tempt others. The trial, not the sin, is His aim. Trials are designed to refine us as gold is refined by fire.

आयत: 36

وَإِذَا رَءَاكَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓاْ إِن يَتَّخِذُونَكَ إِلَّا هُزُوًا أَهَٰذَا ٱلَّذِي يَذۡكُرُ ءَالِهَتَكُمۡ وَهُم بِذِكۡرِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ هُمۡ كَٰفِرُونَ

36. When those who deny "the Oneness of God' see you, they do not take you except for one to be mocked 'saying': "Is this the one who speaks of your gods?" And they are deniers when 'Allāh' the Most Gracious is mentioned alone 'with no partners'.

आयत: 37

خُلِقَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ مِنۡ عَجَلٖۚ سَأُوْرِيكُمۡ ءَايَٰتِي فَلَا تَسۡتَعۡجِلُونِ

37. Man is created of haste. I will show to you My signs, so do not ask Me to hasten them on.

आयत: 38

وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَٰذَا ٱلۡوَعۡدُ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَٰدِقِينَ

38. They say: "When 'will be fulfilled' this threat, if you are truthful?"

आयत: 39

لَوۡ يَعۡلَمُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ حِينَ لَا يَكُفُّونَ عَن وُجُوهِهِمُ ٱلنَّارَ وَلَا عَن ظُهُورِهِمۡ وَلَا هُمۡ يُنصَرُونَ

39. If only those who denied "the Truth" but knew 'of the time' when they will not be able to ward off the Fire from their faces nor from their backs, nor will they be helped.

आयत: 40

بَلۡ تَأۡتِيهِم بَغۡتَةٗ فَتَبۡهَتُهُمۡ فَلَا يَسۡتَطِيعُونَ رَدَّهَا وَلَا هُمۡ يُنظَرُونَ

40. Rather, it will come on them all of a sudden, and cause them to become confounded, so they shall not have any power to avert it, nor will they be given respite.

आयत: 41

وَلَقَدِ ٱسۡتُهۡزِئَ بِرُسُلٖ مِّن قَبۡلِكَ فَحَاقَ بِٱلَّذِينَ سَخِرُواْ مِنۡهُم مَّا كَانُواْ بِهِۦ يَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ

41. Indeed 'many' messengers before you were ridiculed, but those who mocked them were overtaken by the very thing they used to ridicule.

आयत: 42

قُلۡ مَن يَكۡلَؤُكُم بِٱلَّيۡلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِ مِنَ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِۚ بَلۡ هُمۡ عَن ذِكۡرِ رَبِّهِم مُّعۡرِضُونَ

42. Say, 'Muhammad': "Who guards you by night and by day from 'the torment of" the Most Gracious?" But, they turn away at the mention of their Lord 'Allāh alone'.

आयत: 43

أَمۡ لَهُمۡ ءَالِهَةٞ تَمۡنَعُهُم مِّن دُونِنَاۚ لَا يَسۡتَطِيعُونَ نَصۡرَ أَنفُسِهِمۡ وَلَا هُم مِّنَّا يُصۡحَبُونَ

43. Or, have they gods who can defend them against Us? They are unable 'even' to help themselves, nor can they be protected from Us.

आयत: 44

بَلۡ مَتَّعۡنَا هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ وَءَابَآءَهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ طَالَ عَلَيۡهِمُ ٱلۡعُمُرُۗ أَفَلَا يَرَوۡنَ أَنَّا نَأۡتِي ٱلۡأَرۡضَ نَنقُصُهَا مِنۡ أَطۡرَافِهَآۚ أَفَهُمُ ٱلۡغَٰلِبُونَ

44. But We let these 'pagans' and their fathers enjoy 'the good things of this life' until the period grew long for them. Do they not see that We gradually reduce the land 'in their control' from its outlying borders? Will they then prevail?

आयत: 45

قُلۡ إِنَّمَآ أُنذِرُكُم بِٱلۡوَحۡيِۚ وَلَا يَسۡمَعُ ٱلصُّمُّ ٱلدُّعَآءَ إِذَا مَا يُنذَرُونَ

45. Say, 'Muhammad': "I warn you only by the Revelation 'of this Qur'an'." But the deaf do not hear the call when they are warned.

आयत: 46

وَلَئِن مَّسَّتۡهُمۡ نَفۡحَةٞ مِّنۡ عَذَابِ رَبِّكَ لَيَقُولُنَّ يَٰوَيۡلَنَآ إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَٰلِمِينَ

46. Yet, if a breath of the Torment of 'Allāh' your Lord touches them, they would surely say: "O woe to us. We were evildoers."

आयत: 47

وَنَضَعُ ٱلۡمَوَٰزِينَ ٱلۡقِسۡطَ لِيَوۡمِ ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ فَلَا تُظۡلَمُ نَفۡسٞ شَيۡـٔٗاۖ وَإِن كَانَ مِثۡقَالَ حَبَّةٖ مِّنۡ خَرۡدَلٍ أَتَيۡنَا بِهَاۗ وَكَفَىٰ بِنَا حَٰسِبِينَ

47. We shall set up a just balance on the Day of Resurrection 'and Judgement', so no soul will be dealt with unjustly in the least. 'Every deed' even if it be the weight of a grain of mustard seed, We shall bring it. Enough are We as a Reckoner.

आयत: 48

وَلَقَدۡ ءَاتَيۡنَا مُوسَىٰ وَهَٰرُونَ ٱلۡفُرۡقَانَ وَضِيَآءٗ وَذِكۡرٗا لِّلۡمُتَّقِينَ

48. We gave to Moses and Aaron the Standard 'to distinguish between right and wrong' and a Light and a Reminder for the righteous.

आयत: 49

ٱلَّذِينَ يَخۡشَوۡنَ رَبَّهُم بِٱلۡغَيۡبِ وَهُم مِّنَ ٱلسَّاعَةِ مُشۡفِقُونَ

49. Those who are in awe of their Lord 'Allāh' though unseen11 and they are apprehensive of the Hour 'of Doom'.

11. Or when they are in private and not seen by others.

   

आयत: 50

وَهَٰذَا ذِكۡرٞ مُّبَارَكٌ أَنزَلۡنَٰهُۚ أَفَأَنتُمۡ لَهُۥ مُنكِرُونَ

50. This 'Qur’an' is a Blessed Reminder which We have sent down 'after the Torah and the Gospel'. Will you then deny it?

आयत: 51

۞ وَلَقَدۡ ءَاتَيۡنَآ إِبۡرَٰهِيمَ رُشۡدَهُۥ مِن قَبۡلُ وَكُنَّا بِهِۦ عَٰلِمِينَ

51. We had certainly given Abraham his uprightness 'and guidance" before, and We knew him fully well 'to be worthy of it'.

आयत: 52

إِذۡ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوۡمِهِۦ مَا هَٰذِهِ ٱلتَّمَاثِيلُ ٱلَّتِيٓ أَنتُمۡ لَهَا عَٰكِفُونَ

52. When he said to his father and his people: "What are these images to whose worship you are devoted?"

आयत: 53

قَالُواْ وَجَدۡنَآ ءَابَآءَنَا لَهَا عَٰبِدِينَ

53. They said: "We found our fathers worshiping them."

आयत: 54

قَالَ لَقَدۡ كُنتُمۡ أَنتُمۡ وَءَابَآؤُكُمۡ فِي ضَلَٰلٖ مُّبِينٖ

54. 'Abraham' said: "You have been, both you and your fathers in manifest error."

आयत: 55

قَالُوٓاْ أَجِئۡتَنَا بِٱلۡحَقِّ أَمۡ أَنتَ مِنَ ٱللَّٰعِبِينَ

55. They said: "Have you brought to us the Truth, or are you joking?"

आयत: 56

قَالَ بَل رَّبُّكُمۡ رَبُّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ ٱلَّذِي فَطَرَهُنَّ وَأَنَا۠ عَلَىٰ ذَٰلِكُم مِّنَ ٱلشَّٰهِدِينَ

56. He said: "No, rather, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who brought them into existence, and I am witness to this.

आयत: 57

وَتَٱللَّهِ لَأَكِيدَنَّ أَصۡنَٰمَكُم بَعۡدَ أَن تُوَلُّواْ مُدۡبِرِينَ

57. ˹Then he said to himself,' "By Allāh, I will do something against your idols after you go away, turning your backs."

आयत: 58

فَجَعَلَهُمۡ جُذَٰذًا إِلَّا كَبِيرٗا لَّهُمۡ لَعَلَّهُمۡ إِلَيۡهِ يَرۡجِعُونَ

58. So he broke them 'the idols' into pieces, except the biggest of them, that they may return to it.

आयत: 59

قَالُواْ مَن فَعَلَ هَٰذَا بِـَٔالِهَتِنَآ إِنَّهُۥ لَمِنَ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ

59. They said: "Who has done this to our gods 'idols'? He is truly an unjust person."

आयत: 60

قَالُواْ سَمِعۡنَا فَتٗى يَذۡكُرُهُمۡ يُقَالُ لَهُۥٓ إِبۡرَٰهِيمُ

60. They said: "We heard a youth called Abraham speak of them."

आयत: 61

قَالُواْ فَأۡتُواْ بِهِۦ عَلَىٰٓ أَعۡيُنِ ٱلنَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَشۡهَدُونَ

61. They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, perhaps they may bear witness."

आयत: 62

قَالُوٓاْ ءَأَنتَ فَعَلۡتَ هَٰذَا بِـَٔالِهَتِنَا يَٰٓإِبۡرَٰهِيمُ

62. They said: "Have you done this to our gods, O Abraham?"

आयत: 63

قَالَ بَلۡ فَعَلَهُۥ كَبِيرُهُمۡ هَٰذَا فَسۡـَٔلُوهُمۡ إِن كَانُواْ يَنطِقُونَ

63. He said: "Rather, this one, the biggest of them 'the idols' did it, so ask them - if they can speak."

आयत: 64

فَرَجَعُوٓاْ إِلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِهِمۡ فَقَالُوٓاْ إِنَّكُمۡ أَنتُمُ ٱلظَّٰلِمُونَ

64. Then they turned to themselves and said 'to one another': "You yourselves are the unjust."

आयत: 65

ثُمَّ نُكِسُواْ عَلَىٰ رُءُوسِهِمۡ لَقَدۡ عَلِمۡتَ مَا هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ يَنطِقُونَ

65. Then they hung their heads 'with shame'. 'They said': "Abraham, you know that idols do not speak."

आयत: 66

قَالَ أَفَتَعۡبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا يَنفَعُكُمۡ شَيۡـٔٗا وَلَا يَضُرُّكُمۡ

66. He said: "Do you then, instead of Allāh, worship 'idols' that can neither benefit you in the least, nor harm you?

आयत: 67

أُفّٖ لَّكُمۡ وَلِمَا تَعۡبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِۚ أَفَلَا تَعۡقِلُونَ

67. Fie on you and on what you worship besides Allāh. Have you no sense?"

आयत: 68

قَالُواْ حَرِّقُوهُ وَٱنصُرُوٓاْ ءَالِهَتَكُمۡ إِن كُنتُمۡ فَٰعِلِينَ

68. They said: "Burn him and support your gods, if you are to act."

आयत: 69

قُلۡنَا يَٰنَارُ كُونِي بَرۡدٗا وَسَلَٰمًا عَلَىٰٓ إِبۡرَٰهِيمَ

69. 'When he was thrown in the fire' We said: "O fire, be cool and peace for Abraham."

आयत: 70

وَأَرَادُواْ بِهِۦ كَيۡدٗا فَجَعَلۡنَٰهُمُ ٱلۡأَخۡسَرِينَ

70. They intended an evil plan for Abraham, but We made them the real losers.

आयत: 71

وَنَجَّيۡنَٰهُ وَلُوطًا إِلَى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ ٱلَّتِي بَٰرَكۡنَا فِيهَا لِلۡعَٰلَمِينَ

71. And We delivered Him and Lot safely to the land12 which We blessed for all people.

12. i.e., the Levant: Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria.

आयत: 72

وَوَهَبۡنَا لَهُۥٓ إِسۡحَٰقَ وَيَعۡقُوبَ نَافِلَةٗۖ وَكُلّٗا جَعَلۡنَا صَٰلِحِينَ

72. And We granted him Isaac and 'a grandson' Jacob as a gift, and each of them We made righteous.

आयत: 73

وَجَعَلۡنَٰهُمۡ أَئِمَّةٗ يَهۡدُونَ بِأَمۡرِنَا وَأَوۡحَيۡنَآ إِلَيۡهِمۡ فِعۡلَ ٱلۡخَيۡرَٰتِ وَإِقَامَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ وَإِيتَآءَ ٱلزَّكَوٰةِۖ وَكَانُواْ لَنَا عَٰبِدِينَ

73. We 'also' made them leaders, guiding 'people' by Our command. We inspired them the doing of good, keeping up the prayer, and giving of Zakah 'the obligatory alms'. And they were our 'true' worshippers.

आयत: 74

وَلُوطًا ءَاتَيۡنَٰهُ حُكۡمٗا وَعِلۡمٗا وَنَجَّيۡنَٰهُ مِنَ ٱلۡقَرۡيَةِ ٱلَّتِي كَانَت تَّعۡمَلُ ٱلۡخَبَٰٓئِثَۚ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ قَوۡمَ سَوۡءٖ فَٰسِقِينَ

74. To Lot, We 'Allāh' gave sound judgment and knowledge, and delivered him from the town that was committing wicked deeds. They were indeed an evil, rebellious people.

आयत: 75

وَأَدۡخَلۡنَٰهُ فِي رَحۡمَتِنَآۖ إِنَّهُۥ مِنَ ٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ

75. And We admitted him into Our mercy; for he 'Lut' was a righteous man.

आयत: 76

وَنُوحًا إِذۡ نَادَىٰ مِن قَبۡلُ فَٱسۡتَجَبۡنَا لَهُۥ فَنَجَّيۡنَٰهُ وَأَهۡلَهُۥ مِنَ ٱلۡكَرۡبِ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ

76. 'Mention' Noah, when he called out 'to Us' before 'that time', so We answered him, and delivered him and his family from the the great flood.

आयत: 77

وَنَصَرۡنَٰهُ مِنَ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَآۚ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ قَوۡمَ سَوۡءٖ فَأَغۡرَقۡنَٰهُمۡ أَجۡمَعِينَ

77. We helped him against the people who denied Our signs. They were an evil people, so We drowned them all.

आयत: 78

وَدَاوُۥدَ وَسُلَيۡمَٰنَ إِذۡ يَحۡكُمَانِ فِي ٱلۡحَرۡثِ إِذۡ نَفَشَتۡ فِيهِ غَنَمُ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ وَكُنَّا لِحُكۡمِهِمۡ شَٰهِدِينَ

78. 'Mention' David and Solomon, when they gave judgment concerning the field when the people’s sheep pastured therein by night, and We were witness to their judgments.

आयत: 79

فَفَهَّمۡنَٰهَا سُلَيۡمَٰنَۚ وَكُلًّا ءَاتَيۡنَا حُكۡمٗا وَعِلۡمٗاۚ وَسَخَّرۡنَا مَعَ دَاوُۥدَ ٱلۡجِبَالَ يُسَبِّحۡنَ وَٱلطَّيۡرَۚ وَكُنَّا فَٰعِلِينَ

79. So We made Solomon to understand it; and to each one 'David and Solomon' We gave sound judgment and knowledge. We subjected the mountains and the birds to exalt 'Allāh' with David. And We 'Allāh' were the doers.

आयत: 80

وَعَلَّمۡنَٰهُ صَنۡعَةَ لَبُوسٖ لَّكُمۡ لِتُحۡصِنَكُم مِّنۢ بَأۡسِكُمۡۖ فَهَلۡ أَنتُمۡ شَٰكِرُونَ

80. We taught him 'David' the art of making of coats of mail for you, that they might protect you in your wars. Will you then be grateful?

आयत: 81

وَلِسُلَيۡمَٰنَ ٱلرِّيحَ عَاصِفَةٗ تَجۡرِي بِأَمۡرِهِۦٓ إِلَى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ ٱلَّتِي بَٰرَكۡنَا فِيهَاۚ وَكُنَّا بِكُلِّ شَيۡءٍ عَٰلِمِينَ

81. 'We subjected' to Solomon the raging winds, pursuing its course by his command to the land which We had blessed13. We 'Allāh' know everything.

13. i.e., the Levant.

आयत: 82

وَمِنَ ٱلشَّيَٰطِينِ مَن يَغُوصُونَ لَهُۥ وَيَعۡمَلُونَ عَمَلٗا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَۖ وَكُنَّا لَهُمۡ حَٰفِظِينَ

82. We subdued the devils 'from the jinn' who dive into the sea for him and perform other work besides that. It is We Who kept them in his service.

आयत: 83

۞ وَأَيُّوبَ إِذۡ نَادَىٰ رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنِّي مَسَّنِيَ ٱلضُّرُّ وَأَنتَ أَرۡحَمُ ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ

83. 'Mention' Job, when he called out to 'his Lord, 'saying': "Adversity14 has afflicted me, and You 'O Allāh' are the Most Merciful of the merciful.

14. Illness and loss of family and wealth.

आयत: 84

فَٱسۡتَجَبۡنَا لَهُۥ فَكَشَفۡنَا مَا بِهِۦ مِن ضُرّٖۖ وَءَاتَيۡنَٰهُ أَهۡلَهُۥ وَمِثۡلَهُم مَّعَهُمۡ رَحۡمَةٗ مِّنۡ عِندِنَا وَذِكۡرَىٰ لِلۡعَٰبِدِينَ

84. So We responded to him and removed what afflicted him of adversity, and We gave him his family and the like thereof with them as Mercy from Us and a Reminder for the worshippers 'of Allāh'.

आयत: 85

وَإِسۡمَٰعِيلَ وَإِدۡرِيسَ وَذَا ٱلۡكِفۡلِۖ كُلّٞ مِّنَ ٱلصَّٰبِرِينَ

85. 'Mention' Ishmael, Enoch and Ezekiel - all were of the patient ones.

आयत: 86

وَأَدۡخَلۡنَٰهُمۡ فِي رَحۡمَتِنَآۖ إِنَّهُم مِّنَ ٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ

86. We admitted them to Our mercy, for they were 'truly' righteous.

आयत: 87

وَذَا ٱلنُّونِ إِذ ذَّهَبَ مُغَٰضِبٗا فَظَنَّ أَن لَّن نَّقۡدِرَ عَلَيۡهِ فَنَادَىٰ فِي ٱلظُّلُمَٰتِ أَن لَّآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّآ أَنتَ سُبۡحَٰنَكَ إِنِّي كُنتُ مِنَ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ

87. 'Mention' the man of the Whale 'Jonah', when he went off enraged 'by the disbelief of his people', thinking that We would not straiten him, then in the 'veils' of darknesses15 he cried out, "There is no 'true' god except You 'O Allāh', Glory be to You; I have certainly done wrong.

15. of the night, the sea, and the whale’s stomach

आयत: 88

فَٱسۡتَجَبۡنَا لَهُۥ وَنَجَّيۡنَٰهُ مِنَ ٱلۡغَمِّۚ وَكَذَٰلِكَ نُـۨجِي ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ

88. So We responded to him and delivered him from the grief. For thus do We deliver the believers.

आयत: 89

وَزَكَرِيَّآ إِذۡ نَادَىٰ رَبَّهُۥ رَبِّ لَا تَذَرۡنِي فَرۡدٗا وَأَنتَ خَيۡرُ ٱلۡوَٰرِثِينَ

89. 'Recall', when Zachariah called out to his Lord 'Allāh', saying': "My Lord, do not leave me childless; for You are the Best of inheritors."

आयत: 90

فَٱسۡتَجَبۡنَا لَهُۥ وَوَهَبۡنَا لَهُۥ يَحۡيَىٰ وَأَصۡلَحۡنَا لَهُۥ زَوۡجَهُۥٓۚ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ يُسَٰرِعُونَ فِي ٱلۡخَيۡرَٰتِ وَيَدۡعُونَنَا رَغَبٗا وَرَهَبٗاۖ وَكَانُواْ لَنَا خَٰشِعِينَ

90. So We answered his prayer, granted him Yahya 'John' and made his wife fertile 'to bear child' for him. They used to race with one another to good deeds and to call upon Us with 'love', hope and fear. They were always humble before Us.

आयत: 91

وَٱلَّتِيٓ أَحۡصَنَتۡ فَرۡجَهَا فَنَفَخۡنَا فِيهَا مِن رُّوحِنَا وَجَعَلۡنَٰهَا وَٱبۡنَهَآ ءَايَةٗ لِّلۡعَٰلَمِينَ

91. 'Mention' her 'the Virgin Mary' who guarded her chastity16, so We breathed into 'the sleeves of' her 'garment' through Our angel 'Gabriel' and made her and her son 'Jesus' a Sign for all people17.

16. The word chastity here means the abstention from illicit sexual activities and to take a vow of chastity, promising to abstain from all illicit sexual activities.
The Sunnah exhorts young men to treat older women as mothers and younger women as sisters with all chastity and purity. Treat every woman the way you want someone to treat your mother or your sister. Once a young man came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and he said, “O Messenger of Allāh, give me permission to commit adultery.” The people turned to rebuke him, saying, “Quiet! Quiet!” The Prophet Muhammad said, “Come here.” The young man came close and he told him to sit down. The Prophet asked, “Would you like that for your mother?” The man said, “No, by Allah, may I be sacrificed for you.” The Prophet asked, “Neither would people like it for their mothers. Would you like that for your daughter?” The man said, “No, by Allah, may I be sacrificed for you.” The Prophet said, “Neither would people like it for their daughters. Would you like that for your sister?” The man said, “No, by Allah, may I be sacrificed for you.” The Prophet said, “Neither would people like it for their sisters. Would you like that for your aunts?” The man said, “No, by Allah, may I be sacrificed for you.” The Prophet said, “Neither would people like it for their aunts.” Then, the Prophet placed his hand on him and he said, “O Allah, forgive his sins, purify his heart, and guard his chastity.” After that, the young man never again inclined to anything sinful.
The Quran’s teaching on sexual chastity is clear. Any sexual activity outside the marriage wedlock is a deadly sin .
But chastity is more than abstention from sex; chastity begins in the heart. It is from the heart that all evil comes.
The Prophet Muhammad taught that even private sexual lust is unchaste and sinful. The Prophet said, "Allāh fixed the very portion of adultery which a man will indulge in. There would be no escape from it. The adultery of the eye is the lustful look and the adultery of the ears is listening to voluptuous (song or talk) and the adultery of the tongue is licentious speech and the adultery of the hand is the lustful grip (embrace) and the adultery of the feet is to walk (to the place) where he intends to commit adultery and the heart yearns and desires which he may or may not put into effect. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) also said: "Every eye commits adultery, and when the woman uses perfume and she passes by a gathering of men, then she is like this and that.'" Meaning an adulteress.
Pornography, immodest clothing by not wearing the proper dress code, and heavy make-out sessions between dating couples all violate the Quran’s principle of chastity.
Chaste people must set personal boundaries so that their hearts are not led into temptation. Limiting exposure to sexually exploitive images and situations promotes chastity. Regular worship, prayer, reciting and meditation on the Qur’an help keep our minds chaste. Even though the concept of chastity is quickly vanishing from our world’s value system, it remains vital part of God’s true religion, Islam. Allāh looks the hearts and minds of every person, seeking those whose hearts are wholly His. Allāh, the Creator of our bodies and our souls is not fooled by our outward displays of chastity designed to impress onlookers. He seeks those who long to be pure in heart. When chastity is our goal in every area of life, Allāh strengthens and rewards us with power to overcome sin and enjoy more of His presence.
17. Of Allah's Infinite Power and Greatness as He created Jesus without father, and his mother Mary bore him without having a partner.

आयत: 92

إِنَّ هَٰذِهِۦٓ أُمَّتُكُمۡ أُمَّةٗ وَٰحِدَةٗ وَأَنَا۠ رَبُّكُمۡ فَٱعۡبُدُونِ

92. 'O Prophets and believers' this Islam is certainly your religion, one religion only, and I am 'Allāh' your Lord, so worship Me 'alone'.

आयत: 93

وَتَقَطَّعُوٓاْ أَمۡرَهُم بَيۡنَهُمۡۖ كُلٌّ إِلَيۡنَا رَٰجِعُونَ

93. Yet the people have divided their religion 'into many sects' between them. They all shall return to Us.

आयत: 94

فَمَن يَعۡمَلۡ مِنَ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ وَهُوَ مُؤۡمِنٞ فَلَا كُفۡرَانَ لِسَعۡيِهِۦ وَإِنَّا لَهُۥ كَٰتِبُونَ

94. So whoever does of the good deeds, and is a believer, there will be no denying of his effort. We shall record it in his favor.

आयत: 95

وَحَرَٰمٌ عَلَىٰ قَرۡيَةٍ أَهۡلَكۡنَٰهَآ أَنَّهُمۡ لَا يَرۡجِعُونَ

95. It is prohibited for 'the people of' any town that We destroyed to ever return again 'to the world'.

आयत: 96

حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا فُتِحَتۡ يَأۡجُوجُ وَمَأۡجُوجُ وَهُم مِّن كُلِّ حَدَبٖ يَنسِلُونَ

96. Until 'after the dam of' Gog and Magog has been opened and they, from every elevated place descend18.

18. When Gog and Magog attacks the land of Levant, Allāh will execute judgment upon them with plague and bloodshed. Thousands of invading soldiers lie unburied. Allāh sends the birds of the air to pluck the flesh right off their bodies.

आयत: 97

وَٱقۡتَرَبَ ٱلۡوَعۡدُ ٱلۡحَقُّ فَإِذَا هِيَ شَٰخِصَةٌ أَبۡصَٰرُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ يَٰوَيۡلَنَا قَدۡ كُنَّا فِي غَفۡلَةٖ مِّنۡ هَٰذَا بَلۡ كُنَّا ظَٰلِمِينَ

97. The true Promise 'of Resurrection' will draw near, then at once the eyes of the deniers will fixedly stare in horror 'crying': "O woe to us, we were in a state of heedlessness of this; rather, we were workers of iniquity."

आयत: 98

إِنَّكُمۡ وَمَا تَعۡبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ حَصَبُ جَهَنَّمَ أَنتُمۡ لَهَا وَٰرِدُونَ

98. "You 'deniers' and whatever you worship besides Allāh are the fuel of Gehinnom; you are 'all' bound to enter it."

आयत: 99

لَوۡ كَانَ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ ءَالِهَةٗ مَّا وَرَدُوهَاۖ وَكُلّٞ فِيهَا خَٰلِدُونَ

99. Had these 'false deities' been true gods, they would not have gone to Hell. And All of them will abide therein forever.

आयत: 100

لَهُمۡ فِيهَا زَفِيرٞ وَهُمۡ فِيهَا لَا يَسۡمَعُونَ

100. They will groan in pain therein, and they therein will not hear19.

19. Anything else besides themselves and the intense raging of the Fire.

आयत: 101

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ سَبَقَتۡ لَهُم مِّنَّا ٱلۡحُسۡنَىٰٓ أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ عَنۡهَا مُبۡعَدُونَ

101. Indeed, those for whom the best reward has preceded from us, they will be kept far away from it 'Hell'.

आयत: 102

لَا يَسۡمَعُونَ حَسِيسَهَاۖ وَهُمۡ فِي مَا ٱشۡتَهَتۡ أَنفُسُهُمۡ خَٰلِدُونَ

102. They will not hear the faintest sound from it 'Hell', while they abide eternally in whatever delight their own selves desire.

आयत: 103

لَا يَحۡزُنُهُمُ ٱلۡفَزَعُ ٱلۡأَكۡبَرُ وَتَتَلَقَّىٰهُمُ ٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ هَٰذَا يَوۡمُكُمُ ٱلَّذِي كُنتُمۡ تُوعَدُونَ

103. The Great Fearful Event20 will not grieve them, and the angels will receive them with the greeting: "This is your Day which you were promised."

20. Of the Day of Resurrection and Judgment.

आयत: 104

يَوۡمَ نَطۡوِي ٱلسَّمَآءَ كَطَيِّ ٱلسِّجِلِّ لِلۡكُتُبِۚ كَمَا بَدَأۡنَآ أَوَّلَ خَلۡقٖ نُّعِيدُهُۥۚ وَعۡدًا عَلَيۡنَآۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا فَٰعِلِينَ

104. On the Day when We shall roll up the sky like the rolling up of the scrolls for writings. As We began the first creation, so We will repeat it; a Promise 'binding on Us.  We shall certainly do it.

आयत: 105

وَلَقَدۡ كَتَبۡنَا فِي ٱلزَّبُورِ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ ٱلذِّكۡرِ أَنَّ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ يَرِثُهَا عِبَادِيَ ٱلصَّٰلِحُونَ

105. Indeed, We have written in the Psalm21 after the Torah that the land of 'Paradise' will be inherited by My righteous servants.

21. Psalm 37:9: "For evil men will be done away with, but those hoping in Allāh will possess the earth 'of Paradise'."
Psalm 37:29: "The righteous will possess the earth 'of Paradise', and they will live forever in it."
Proverbs 2:21: "For only the upright will reside in the earth 'of Paradise', and the blameless will remain in it."
Matthew 5:5 : “Happy are the mild-tempered, since they will inherit the earth of Paradise."

आयत: 106

إِنَّ فِي هَٰذَا لَبَلَٰغٗا لِّقَوۡمٍ عَٰبِدِينَ

106. There is certainly a Message in this 'Qur’an' for a worshipping people.

आयत: 107

وَمَآ أَرۡسَلۡنَٰكَ إِلَّا رَحۡمَةٗ لِّلۡعَٰلَمِينَ

107.We have only sent you 'Muhammad'22 as a Mercy to all mankind 'and jinn'23.

22. If you verbally declare, “that there is no God except Allāh and that Mohammad is God's servant and messenger,” and believe that in your heart, you will be saved from the Hellfire and admitted to Paradise.
23. The love and compassion of Allah's Messenger for all kinds of creatures was not of the kind claimed by today's 'humanists'. He was more compassionate than any other person and than mother to her child. Muhammad was a Prophet raised by Allāh, the Creator and Sustainer of all beings, for the guidance and happiness of conscious beings - mankind and jinn - and the harmony of existence. Therefore, he lived not for himself but for others; he was a mercy for all the beings.

आयत: 108

قُلۡ إِنَّمَا يُوحَىٰٓ إِلَيَّ أَنَّمَآ إِلَٰهُكُمۡ إِلَٰهٞ وَٰحِدٞۖ فَهَلۡ أَنتُم مُّسۡلِمُونَ

108. Say 'Muhammad': "It is only revealed to me that 'Allāh' your God is One God only; will you then surrender yourselves to Him alone24?"

24. We must surrender everything to Allāh. When we center our daily activities on Him, “trust in Him and do good, take delight in Him, and surrender to Him all our desires, problems, anxieties, and the daily events of our lives, Allāh will direct us and give us peace. As believers in Allāh, it is vital for us to let Him determine what our lives should be. Let’s surrender and trust Allāh. As we do, He will take action and do what’s necessary and best for us.

आयत: 109

فَإِن تَوَلَّوۡاْ فَقُلۡ ءَاذَنتُكُمۡ عَلَىٰ سَوَآءٖۖ وَإِنۡ أَدۡرِيٓ أَقَرِيبٌ أَم بَعِيدٞ مَّا تُوعَدُونَ

109.But if they turn away, say 'Muhammad': "I have warned you all equally, and I do not know whether it is near or far what you are threatened with. "

आयत: 110

إِنَّهُۥ يَعۡلَمُ ٱلۡجَهۡرَ مِنَ ٱلۡقَوۡلِ وَيَعۡلَمُ مَا تَكۡتُمُونَ

110. Indeed, Allāh knows what is spoken openly and He knows what you hide.

आयत: 111

وَإِنۡ أَدۡرِي لَعَلَّهُۥ فِتۡنَةٞ لَّكُمۡ وَمَتَٰعٌ إِلَىٰ حِينٖ

111. I know not if this25 may be a trial for you and a provision till a time.

25. postponement of punishment.

आयत: 112

قَٰلَ رَبِّ ٱحۡكُم بِٱلۡحَقِّۗ وَرَبُّنَا ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنُ ٱلۡمُسۡتَعَانُ عَلَىٰ مَا تَصِفُونَ

112. 'Muhammad' said: "Lord 'Allāh', judge 'between us' with Truth. Our Lord is the Most Gracious Whose help is sought against the blasphemies you utter26!."

26. Of untrue things to Allāh, saying that He has taken a son or daughters, or that His messenger Muhammad is sorcerer or poet, or saying that the Qur’an is magic.
