10. Those who pledge obedience to you 'Muhammad', they are actually pledging obedience to Allāh. The Hand of Allāh is above their hands6. Whoever disregards 'his pledge', he do so only to the harm of his own self. Whoever fulfills what he has promised Allāh - He will grant him a Great Reward.
6. Put your hand into the Hand of Allāh and trust Allāh to guide and uphold you.
The mention of God’s hand appears in many verses in the Qur’an and in the statements of Prophet Muhammad. Allāh called His people to trust that He as their Creator, “the first and . . . the last”, would remain involved with them. As He says, “We built the heavens with ˹great˺ might, and We are certainly expanding ˹it˺ and the earth, We spread it out. How superbly did We smooth it out! the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Allah spreads out His hand at night to accept the repentance of the one who sinned during the day, and He spreads out His hand by day to accept the repentance of the one who sinned during the night, (and that will continue) until the sun rises from the west.” So we should put our trust in Him and not look to those less powerful. Whatever we face as we look toward the future, we can follow the prophet Muhammad's example and place our hope and trust in Allāh. Then, our peace will be like the river, and our well-being like the waves of the sea.
11. Those of the dwelleres of the desert 'around Medina' who lagged behind 'in taking part in the battle' will say to you: "Our wealth and our families kept us busy, so ask forgiveness for us." They say with their tongues what is not in their hearts. Say: "Who will help you against Allāh If He intends for you harm or if He intends for you good. In fact, Allāh is Well Aware of whatever you do."
12. But you thought that the messenger 'Muhammad' and the believers would never ever return to their families, and that was made fair seeming in your hearts and you thought an evil thought7, and you were a people doomed to perish.
7. That Allāh will not support His messenger Muhammad.
15. Those who lagged behind (in taking part in the battle) will say when you set forth on a war that promises spoils: "Let us follow you." They want to change the Words of Allāh. Say: "Never will you follow us, this is what Allāh has decreed." Then they will say: "Rather, you envy us." Rather they do not understand except a little8.
8. As their hearts were made blind as a result of their sins.
