إِنَّمَا ٱلنَّسِيٓءُ زِيَادَةٞ فِي ٱلۡكُفۡرِۖ يُضَلُّ بِهِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ يُحِلُّونَهُۥ عَامٗا وَيُحَرِّمُونَهُۥ عَامٗا لِّيُوَاطِـُٔواْ عِدَّةَ مَا حَرَّمَ ٱللَّهُ فَيُحِلُّواْ مَا حَرَّمَ ٱللَّهُۚ زُيِّنَ لَهُمۡ سُوٓءُ أَعۡمَٰلِهِمۡۗ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يَهۡدِي ٱلۡقَوۡمَ ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ

37. The postponement [of a sacred month to observe it during non-sacred months] is but an increase in disbelief [19], by which those who disbelieved are led further astray, violating it one year and keeping it sacred another, that they may conform the number [of months] that Allāh has made sacred—thus making lawful what Allāh has forbidden. The evil of their deeds has been made appealing to them. And Allāh does not guide the disbelieving people. info

[19]. Refers to a pagan custom before Islam where Arabs would alter the sacred months (e.g., delay or swap them) to make fighting permissible when it suited their interests. For example, if they wanted to wage war during a sacred month, they would declare it non-sacred and shift the sanctity to another month.
