17 : 38

ٱصۡبِرۡ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَٱذۡكُرۡ عَبۡدَنَا دَاوُۥدَ ذَا ٱلۡأَيۡدِۖ إِنَّهُۥٓ أَوَّابٌ

17. Be patient at what they say, and remember Our servant David, the man of strength. Indeed, he was oft-returning in repentance (to Allāh). info

18 : 38

إِنَّا سَخَّرۡنَا ٱلۡجِبَالَ مَعَهُۥ يُسَبِّحۡنَ بِٱلۡعَشِيِّ وَٱلۡإِشۡرَاقِ

18. Indeed, We subjected the mountains with him glorifying in the evening and the sunrise, info

19 : 38

وَٱلطَّيۡرَ مَحۡشُورَةٗۖ كُلّٞ لَّهُۥٓ أَوَّابٞ

19. And (so did) the birds, assembled together; all repeating with him (praises) [11]. info

[11]. I.e., they came and glorified Allâh’s praises along with him.

20 : 38

وَشَدَدۡنَا مُلۡكَهُۥ وَءَاتَيۡنَٰهُ ٱلۡحِكۡمَةَ وَفَصۡلَ ٱلۡخِطَابِ

20. And We strengthened his kingdom and gave him wisdom and decisive speech. info

21 : 38

۞ وَهَلۡ أَتَىٰكَ نَبَؤُاْ ٱلۡخَصۡمِ إِذۡ تَسَوَّرُواْ ٱلۡمِحۡرَابَ

21. And has the tiding of the litigants come to you (Muhammad), when they climbed the (walls of the prayer) chamber (of David)? info

22 : 38

إِذۡ دَخَلُواْ عَلَىٰ دَاوُۥدَ فَفَزِعَ مِنۡهُمۡۖ قَالُواْ لَا تَخَفۡۖ خَصۡمَانِ بَغَىٰ بَعۡضُنَا عَلَىٰ بَعۡضٖ فَٱحۡكُم بَيۡنَنَا بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَلَا تُشۡطِطۡ وَٱهۡدِنَآ إِلَىٰ سَوَآءِ ٱلصِّرَٰطِ

22. As they entered upon David, so he was alarmed of them, they said: "Fear not." (We are) two litigants, of whom one has acted wrongfully towards the other, so judge between us with truth and do not exceed (it), and guide us to the right path. info

23 : 38

إِنَّ هَٰذَآ أَخِي لَهُۥ تِسۡعٞ وَتِسۡعُونَ نَعۡجَةٗ وَلِيَ نَعۡجَةٞ وَٰحِدَةٞ فَقَالَ أَكۡفِلۡنِيهَا وَعَزَّنِي فِي ٱلۡخِطَابِ

23. Indeed, this is my brother, he has ninety-nine ewes, while I have only one ewe; but he said: "Entrust her to me, and he overpowered me in (the) speech." info

24 : 38

قَالَ لَقَدۡ ظَلَمَكَ بِسُؤَالِ نَعۡجَتِكَ إِلَىٰ نِعَاجِهِۦۖ وَإِنَّ كَثِيرٗا مِّنَ ٱلۡخُلَطَآءِ لَيَبۡغِي بَعۡضُهُمۡ عَلَىٰ بَعۡضٍ إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ وَقَلِيلٞ مَّا هُمۡۗ وَظَنَّ دَاوُۥدُ أَنَّمَا فَتَنَّٰهُ فَٱسۡتَغۡفَرَ رَبَّهُۥ وَخَرَّۤ رَاكِعٗاۤ وَأَنَابَ۩

24. He (David) said: "He has certainly been unjust to you in demanding your ewe (to add) to his own ewes. And indeed many intermixes (partners) indeed act wrongfully one against the other, except those who believe (in Allāh) and do good deeds, and few are they." And David realized that We had tried him, so he sought the forgiveness of his Lord (Allāh) and fell down bowing and turned (to Him) in repentance. info

25 : 38

فَغَفَرۡنَا لَهُۥ ذَٰلِكَۖ وَإِنَّ لَهُۥ عِندَنَا لَزُلۡفَىٰ وَحُسۡنَ مَـَٔابٖ

25. So We forgave that for him, and indeed, for him with Us is surely (an exalted position of) near access, and an excellent (place of) return (I.e., Paradise). info

26 : 38

يَٰدَاوُۥدُ إِنَّا جَعَلۡنَٰكَ خَلِيفَةٗ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَٱحۡكُم بَيۡنَ ٱلنَّاسِ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَلَا تَتَّبِعِ ٱلۡهَوَىٰ فَيُضِلَّكَ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِۚ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَضِلُّونَ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ لَهُمۡ عَذَابٞ شَدِيدُۢ بِمَا نَسُواْ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡحِسَابِ

26. O David, We have made you a ruler on earth [12]; so judge between the people with justice and do not follow 'your own' desire, lest it should lead you astray from the Way of Allāh. Indeed, those who go astray from the Way of Allāh (i.e., Islam) will have a severe torment as they forgot the Day of Reckoning. info

[12]. i.e., Palestine
