قَالَ يَٰبُنَيَّ لَا تَقۡصُصۡ رُءۡيَاكَ عَلَىٰٓ إِخۡوَتِكَ فَيَكِيدُواْ لَكَ كَيۡدًاۖ إِنَّ ٱلشَّيۡطَٰنَ لِلۡإِنسَٰنِ عَدُوّٞ مُّبِينٞ
5. (Jacob) said: "My son, do not relate your vision to your brothers, lest they plot against you. Indeed, Satan is an open enemy to man."

12
وَكَذَٰلِكَ يَجۡتَبِيكَ رَبُّكَ وَيُعَلِّمُكَ مِن تَأۡوِيلِ ٱلۡأَحَادِيثِ وَيُتِمُّ نِعۡمَتَهُۥ عَلَيۡكَ وَعَلَىٰٓ ءَالِ يَعۡقُوبَ كَمَآ أَتَمَّهَا عَلَىٰٓ أَبَوَيۡكَ مِن قَبۡلُ إِبۡرَٰهِيمَ وَإِسۡحَٰقَۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٞ
6. Thus will your Lord choose you, and teach you the interpretation of discourses (events and dreams) and make His favor complete upon you and upon the family of Jacob, as He made it complete before on your fathers, Abraham and Isaac. Indeed, your Lord (Allāh) is All-Knowing, All-Wise.

۞ لَّقَدۡ كَانَ فِي يُوسُفَ وَإِخۡوَتِهِۦٓ ءَايَٰتٞ لِّلسَّآئِلِينَ
7. Indeed in Joseph and his brothers there are signs for the inquirers.

إِذۡ قَالُواْ لَيُوسُفُ وَأَخُوهُ أَحَبُّ إِلَىٰٓ أَبِينَا مِنَّا وَنَحۡنُ عُصۡبَةٌ إِنَّ أَبَانَا لَفِي ضَلَٰلٖ مُّبِينٍ
8. When (Joseph's brothers) said (to one another), "Joseph and his brother are dearer to our father than we, even though we are a group. Indeed, our father is in clear error."

ٱقۡتُلُواْ يُوسُفَ أَوِ ٱطۡرَحُوهُ أَرۡضٗا يَخۡلُ لَكُمۡ وَجۡهُ أَبِيكُمۡ وَتَكُونُواْ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِۦ قَوۡمٗا صَٰلِحِينَ
9. (One of them said): "Kill Joseph or cast him (forth) into some land, so that your father’s face (attention) may be exclusively for you, and after that you may (repent and) become a righteous people."

قَالَ قَآئِلٞ مِّنۡهُمۡ لَا تَقۡتُلُواْ يُوسُفَ وَأَلۡقُوهُ فِي غَيَٰبَتِ ٱلۡجُبِّ يَلۡتَقِطۡهُ بَعۡضُ ٱلسَّيَّارَةِ إِن كُنتُمۡ فَٰعِلِينَ
10. One of them [3] said: "Do not kill Joseph; rather, cast him down into the bottom of the well, some caravan may pick him up (and sell him) if you must do that."
[3]. I.e., Judah.

قَالُواْ يَٰٓأَبَانَا مَا لَكَ لَا تَأۡمَ۬نَّا عَلَىٰ يُوسُفَ وَإِنَّا لَهُۥ لَنَٰصِحُونَ
11. They said: "Father, why do you not trust us with Joseph? while indeed, we are to him sincere counselors.

أَرۡسِلۡهُ مَعَنَا غَدٗا يَرۡتَعۡ وَيَلۡعَبۡ وَإِنَّا لَهُۥ لَحَٰفِظُونَ
12. Send him with us tomorrow that he may may eat well and play, and surely we will indeed be his preservers."

قَالَ إِنِّي لَيَحۡزُنُنِيٓ أَن تَذۡهَبُواْ بِهِۦ وَأَخَافُ أَن يَأۡكُلَهُ ٱلذِّئۡبُ وَأَنتُمۡ عَنۡهُ غَٰفِلُونَ
13. (Jacob) said: "Surely it grieves me that you should take him away, and I fear that a wolf may eat him while you are heedless of him."

قَالُواْ لَئِنۡ أَكَلَهُ ٱلذِّئۡبُ وَنَحۡنُ عُصۡبَةٌ إِنَّآ إِذٗا لَّخَٰسِرُونَ
14. They said: "If a wolf eats him, while we are a strong group (to guard him), then we are certainly losers."
