1. All praise be to Allāh, Who created the heavens and the earth and made darkness and light. Yet those who disbelieve (in the Truth) make equals with their Lord 'Allāh'.
2. He 'Allāh' it is Who created you from clay1, then decreed a term (for your death), and (another) named term (for your Resurrection) with him; then 'still' you are disputing.
1. I.e., Adam, the father of humanity, was created from clay, processed earth.
3. He is Allāh (the only true God)2 in the heavens and in the earth. He knows all your secrets and your proclaiming publicly, and He knows what you earn.
2. Who is rightfully worshiped by the dwellers of these two realms.
6. Do they not consider how many a (sinful) generation We have destroyed before them4, whom We had established on the earth such as We have not established you. We sent the clouds pouring rain on them in abundance, and We made the rivers to flow beneath them, then We destroyed them because of their sins and raised up after them another generation.
4. The fact that these earlier nations who were endowed with such abundance and were given water (the source of life and prosperity) both flowing and pouring without end were destroyed, did not make them think over their fate contemplatively.
7. And 'even' if We had sent down upon you a written Book on paper, then they had touched it with their hands, those who deny 'the Truth' would have certainly said: "This is nothing but clear magic."
8. They say: "Why has not an angel been sent down to him?" Had We sent down an angel, the matter would have been judged, then would not be given respite (for repentance).
9. Had We appointed an angel (as our messenger to mankind), We would certainly have made him (appear as a) man, and We would indeed have confused for them whatever they are confusing.
12. Say: "To whom belongs all that is in the heavens and the earth?" Say: "To Allāh." He has ordained Mercy for Himself. He will certainly gather you on the Day of Resurrection - there is no doubt about it. Those who have ruined themselves they will not believe.
14. Say: "Shall I take as a guardian 'lord, savior' other than Allāh, Originator of the heavens and the earth, and He is Who feeds (all) and is not fed?" Say: "I am surely commanded to be the first who submits himself (to Allāh), and do not ever be of the polytheists".
19. Say: "What thing is greatest in testimony?" Say:"Allāh is Witness between you and me." He revealed to me this Qur’an that with it I may warn you and whom it reaches. Are you (pagans) surely bearing witness that there are indeed other gods with Allah?" Say:'I do not bear witness.' Say: "He is only One god (Allāh), and I am disassociated of what you associate 'with Him as partners in worship'.
20. Those whom We have given the 'past' Scripture (Jews and Christians) know him5 as they know their own sons. Those who have lost themselves will not believe.
5. I.e., the Prophet Muhammad who is mentioned in the Bible.
22. On the Day when We shall gather them all together, then We shall say to the idolaters: "Where are your associates (idols and false deities) you used to assert?"
25. And among them (the deniers) are those who (pretend to) listen to you6, and We have set veils over their hearts lest they understand it, and deafness in their ears. Even if they see every Sign, they will not believe in it; so much so that when they come to you they dispute with you. Those who disbelieve (in the Truth) say: "This is nothing but legends of the ancients."
26. And it is they 'who' prohibit 'others' from it (the Qur’an) and distance themselves as well from it, and they only cause to perish themselves and they do not perceive.
27. If you could but see when they are made to stand before the Hellfire, then they say: "Oh, would that we were sent back (to the world), and we would not deny the Signs of our Lord (Allāh) and we would be of the believers."
28. Rather it has appeared to them what they used to conceal from before. Even if they were sent back (to the world), they would certainly go back to that which they were forbidden, and they are certainly liars.
30. If you could but see when they are made to stand before their Lord (Allāh). He will say: "Is not this the Truth?" They will say: "Yes, by our Lord." He will say: "Taste then the torment, because you used to disbelieve."
31. They are losers indeed who deny the Meeting of Allāh; until when the Hour 'of Doom' comes upon them all of a sudden, they cry: "Oh how great is our regret for our neglecting it," while they will bear their burdens on their backs. Unquestionably, evil is that which they shall bear.
32. And the life of this world is nothing but play and a pastime, and certainly the home of the Hereafter is better for those who fear Allāh (and shun evil). Do you not then understand?
34. And (many) messengers before you were rejected, but they patiently indured over what they having been rejected and persecuted until came to them Our Help. None can change the Words of Allāh. And there has certainly come to you some of the news of the Messengers.
35. If their turning away is hard on you, then if you can seek a tunnel (to go down) into the earth or a ladder (to ascend up) to the heaven to bring them a Sign (to convince them all then do so) but (remember that) if Allāh had willed, He would certainly have gathered them all on guidance, so be not of the ignorants.
36. Only those who listen (attentively) will respond; but 'as to' the dead (of heart, the deniers), Allāh will resurrect them, then to Him they will be 'all' returned.
37. And they said: "Why has not a Sign been sent down to him from his Lord 'Allāh'?" Say: "Allāh is Able to send down a Sign, but most of them do not know."
38. There is no a single moving creature on the earth, nor a bird that flies with its two wings but 'they are' communities like you. We have not neglected anything in the Book 'the Preserved Tablet', then to their Lord 'Allāh' they will (all) be gathered.
39. And those who reject Our Verses (of the Qur'an) are deaf and dumb, in utter darknesses. Whomever Allāh wills, He 'justly' leaves astray, and whomever He wills He puts on the right Path (out of His immense grace).
40. Say: "Tell me if the torment of Allāh comes up to you or the Hour 'of Doom' comes up to you, will you call to any other than Allāh for help, if you are truthful?"
41. No, it is Him alone that you would invoke only, so He lifts off that for which you invoke Him if He wills, and you forget what you associate with Him 'as partners'.
42. We already sent (messengers) to many (sinful) nations before you, then We seized them with poverty and hardship in order that they might humble themselves (to Allāh).
43. Yet why did they not, when Our punishment came to them, implored themselves (to Allāh, asking forgiveness)? But their hearts were hardened (as stone), and Satan made all that they used to do fair-seeming to them.
44. When they forgot that with which they had been admonished with, We opened for them the doors of every (good) thing, until when they rejoiced in what they were given, We seized them suddenly; then at once they fell into despair!
46. Say: "Have you considered that if Allāh were to take away your hearing and your sight and set a seal on your hearts, is there a god other than Allāh that can bring it to you?" See how We diversify the Verses, yet they turn away 'from the Truth'.
48. And We do not send the messengers except as announcers of good news and as warners. Whoever believes and reforms, they shall have no fear, nor shall they grieve.
50. Say (Muhammad): "I would not tell you that I have with me the treasures of Allāh, nor do I know the unseen, nor do I tell you that I am an angel." I only follow what is revealed to me. Say: "Are the blind and the seeing alike?" Do you not then reflect?
51. Warn by it 'the Qur’an' those who fear that they will be gathered to their Lord (Allāh) - that there will be no guardian, nor any intercessor besides Him - that they may guard themselves against evil7.
7. Having a constant commitment to just do the right thing by following the Qur'an and the Sunnah, helps us get and stay good.
52. Do not send away those who pray to their Lord (Allāh alone) in the morning and the evening seeking His face. Not upon you is anything of their reckoning and not upon them is anything of your reckoning. So were you to send them away, then you would be of the unjust.
53. Thus do We try some of them by others, so that those 'of wealthier deniers' may say: "Are these (poor believers) the ones upon whom Allāh has favored among us (by His guidance)? Does not Allāh best know the thankful?"
54. When those who believe in Our verses 'of the Qur’an' come to you, say: "Peace be with you, your Lord has ordained Mercy for Himself, (so) that if any one of you does evil out of ignorance, then repents after that and lives righteously, then He is surely All-Forgiving, Most Merciful."
56. Say (Muhammad): "Indeed, I am forbidden to worship those whom you invoke besides Allāh." Say: "I do not follow your low desires. For then indeed I would have gone astray, and I would not be of the rightly guided."
57. Say: "Indeed, I am on clear evidence from my Lord (Allāh), while you have denied it; I have not with me that (torment) you seek to hasten it. The Judgment is only for Allāh. He relates the Truth and He is the Best of Deciders.
58. Say: "If what (the torment) you seek to hasten it were with me, the matter would have certainly been decided between me and you. And Allah is the best Knower of the unjust."
59. And with Him are the keys of the unseen - none knows them except Him. And He knows what is in the land and the sea. Not a leaf falls without His knowledge, nor a grain in the darknesses of the earth, nor anything green or dry but is in a clear record.
60. It is He 'Allāh' Who takes your souls at night 'in sleep', and He knows what you have done by day. Then He raises you up therein 'i.e., by day' so that an appointed term may be fulfilled. Then to Him is your 'final' return and He will inform you of what you used to do.
61. He 'Allāh' is the Subjugator over His slaves (of mankind and jinn). He sends keepers (angels) over you; until when death comes to one of you, Our 'angelic' messengers cause him to die, and they never neglect their duty.
62. Then they (humans and jinn) are turned back to Allāh, their 'real' Master, the True One. Unquestionably, His is the Judgment, and He is the Swiftest of all reckoners.
63. Say: "Who is it that delivers you from the darknesses of the land and sea? You invoke Him humbly and secretly, 'saying': "If He (Allāh) delivers us from this, we shall be of the thankful ones."
65. Say: "He has the Power to send on you a torment from above you or from under your feet, or to cover you with confusion in 'tribal or' party strife; and make you taste the violence of one another. See how We diversify the Verses that they may understand.
68. When you see those who enter into vain discourses about Our revelations, withdraw from them until they enter into some other discourse. If Satan causes you to forget, then do not sit after remembrance with the unjust people.
70. And leave behind those who take their faith (and deeds) as a play and amusement, and whom this worldly life has deceived. But remind with it (the Qur’an), lest a soul should be given up to destruction for what it has earned; it will not have besides Allāh any guardian nor an intercessor. If it offers every ransom to save itself, it will not be accepted from it. Those will be ruined for what they earned (of sins). They will have a drink of hot boiling water and a painful torment because they used to disbelieve (in the Truth and oppose Peace).
71. Say: "Shall we call on besides Allāh that (idols) which does not benefit us nor harm us, and shall we return back on our heels after Allāh has guided us, like him whom the devils confused and have made to go astray 'wandering' through the lands?" He has companions who call him to guidance, 'saying': "Come to us." Say: "The guidance of Allāh, that is the only guidance, and we are commanded to submit to (Allāh) the Lord of all beings.
73. And It is He (Allāh) Who has created the heavens and the earth in truth, and on the Day He will say: "Be," and it is. His Word is the Truth. The Kingdom will be His alone on the Day when the trumpet will be blown. the Knower of the unseen and the seen. He is the All-Wise, the All-Aware.
76. When the night over-shadowed him with its darkness, he saw a star; he said: "Is this my lord?" So when it set, he said: "I do not like those that set."
77. When he saw the moon rising, he said: "Is this my lord?" So when it set, he said: "If my Lord (Allāh) guides me not, I will certainly be of the erring people."
78. When he saw the sun rising, he said: "Is this my lord?" This is greater. So when it set, he said: "O people, I am clear from what you associate (with Allāh in worship)."
80. And his people argued with him. He said: "Do you argue with me concerning Allāh when indeed He has guided me? I do not fear what (the idols) you associate with Him, (none can harm me) unless (Allāh) my Lord wills something. My Lord comprehends all things in His knowledge (and Power). Will you not then take heed?"
81. "How should I fear what (the idols) you associate with Him (in worshi) while you do not fear that you have associated with Allāh for which He has sent down no Authority? Which then of the two parties has more right to security, if you really know?"
82. Those who believe (in the Oneness of Allāh) and do not mix up their faith with iniquity8; these are the ones who shall have the 'real' security and they are the rightly guided.
8. By worshiping others besides Allāh or by committing other deadly sins, e.g., disbelief, murder, adultery, fornication, theft, treason, exploitation of the vulnerable, neglecting obligations of the prayer, zakat, fasting of Ramadan, or the Hajj.
83. This was Our 'conclusive' Argument which We gave to Abraham against his people. We raise in degree whom We will. Your Lord is All-Wise, All-Knowing.
84. We granted him Isaac and Jacob. Each did We guide. Noah did We guide before, and of his descendants: David, Solomon, Job, Joseph, Moses and Aaron. Thus do We reward the good-doers.
88. This is Allah’s Guidance, He guides thereby whom He wills of His servants. If they had associated others with Allāh (in worship), surely would be worthless for them what they used to do (of good deeds).
89. These are they to whom We gave the Scripture, sound judgement, and Prophethood; but if disbelieve in it these (pagans), then We have already entrusted it to a people who are not disbelievers in it9.
90. These are the ones whom Allāh guided (to Islam), so by their guidance take guide. Say: "I do not ask you for any reward for it - it is but a reminder to the nations."
91. They do not assign to Allāh the proper estimation due to Him when they say: "Allāh has not revealed anything to a human being." Say: "Who sent down the Scripture which Moses brought, a Light and a Guidance to the people, which you make into scattered writings which you show 'some of it', while you conceal much?10" and you (pagans) were taught what you did not know, neither you nor your fathers." Say: "Allāh," then leave them in their vain discourses to amuse themselves.
10. One very important fact they tried to hide was Prophet Muhammad’s ﷺ Messengership.
92. This is a blessed Book 'Qur’an' which We have revealed, confirming what came before it (of the Torah and the Evangel), and that you may warn the mother of the towns (Makkah) and all around it.Those who believe in the Hereafter believe in it 'the Qur’an', and they are constant in maintaining their prayers.
93. Who is more unjust than he who invents a lie against Allāh, or says: "It has been revealed to me;" while nothing has been revealed to him, and he who says: "I can reveal the like of Allah's revelations?" If you could but see when the workers of iniquity shall be in the throes of death and the angels shall spread forth their hands 'saying': "Give up your souls; today you shall be recompensed with the torment of humiliation, for you spoke against Allāh other than the Truth, and you used to show arrogance against His revelations."
94. Indeed, you have come to Us solitary, each alone, as We created you at first and you have left behind your backs all the things which We gave you. We do not see with you your intercessors about whom you asserted to be associates with Allāh. Indeed, the ties between you are now cut off, and gone astray from you is what you had been claiming.
95.Indeed, It is Allāh who splits the seed-grain and the date-seed. He brings out the living from the dead and brings out the dead from the living. That is Allāh (your real Lord), so how are you deluded (from the Truth)?
96. The Splitter of the daybreak. He has made the night for rest, and the sun and moon for reckoning (of time). That is the measure of (Allāh), the All-Mighty, the All- Knowing.
97. It is He Who has made the stars for you that you might be guided by them in the darknesses of the land and the sea. We have certainly detailed the Signs for a people who know11.
11. Day break, the sun, the moon and the stars are among the many cosmic Signs that need to be contemplated and pondered upon to lead to believing in The Oneness of God; that there is only one God, Allāh, and that Prophet Muhammad is His last and final messenger. Monotheism further refers to the nature of God—that he is not composed, not triune god, but One and only diety who has no partners.
98. It is He (Allāh) Who has brought you into being from a single soul (Adam), so (for you is) a resting-place (on the earth) and a depository (in your graves). Indeed, We have detailed the Signs for a people who understand.
99. It is He (Allāh) Who sends down water from the sky, then We bring forth with it buds of all 'plants', then We bring forth from it green 'foliage' from which We produce grain piled up; and of the palm-tree, from the sheaths of it come forth clusters 'of dates' within reach, and gardens of grapes and olives and pomegranates - similar (in shape) yet different (in taste). Look at 'each of' its fruit when it yields and at its ripening. Indeed, there are Signs in this for a people who believe 'in the Oneness of God'.
100. Yet they make the jinn 'invisible beings, demons' associates with Allāh, while He created them. They falsely attribute to Him sons and daughters without knowledge. Glory be to Him, and highly exalted is He above what they attribute to Him.
101. The Originator of the heavens and the earth. How could He 'Allāh' have a child when He never had a consort? He created everything. He is the All-Knower of all things.
102. That is Allāh, your Lord, there is no 'true' god except Him. 'He is' the Creator of all things, so worship Him alone. And He is Disposer of all things.
104. Indeed, there have come to you clear Insights from your Lord (Allāh). So whoever (chooses to) see, it is for his own soul. Whosoever is blind (from the Truth), it will be against it. And I am not a keeper over you'.
105. Thus do We diversify the Verses so (the deniers) will say, "You (Muhammad) have studied," and so We may make it (the Qur’an) clear for a people who 'want to' know.
107. If Allāh had willed, they would not have associated others with Him 'in worship'. We have not appointed you a keeper over them, nor are you a trustee over them.
108. Do not abuse those whom they worship besides Allāh, lest exceeding the limits they abuse Allāh out of ignorance. Thus have We made fair seeming to every people its own doings; then to their Lord 'Allāh' will be their 'final' return, so He will inform them of what they were doing.
109. They swear by Allāh with their strongest of their oaths, that if a miracle comes to them they will certainly believe in it. Say: "Miracles are only with Allāh." What will make you know that when the Miracles come they will 'still' not believe?
110. And We will turn their hearts and their sight (from the Truth of Islam), as they believed not in it at the first instance, and We shall leave them in their transgressing, wandering blindly.
111. Even if We had sent down to them the angels, the dead had spoken to them, and We had brought together all things before them, they were not to believe, unless Allāh wills, but most of them behave ignorantly.
112. Thus did We make for every prophet an enemy, devils from among men and jinn, some of them suggesting to others adorned speech (of falsehood) to deceive (them). Had your Lord 'Allāh' willed, they would not have done it, so leave them and that which they invent.
114. Should I then seek as judge other than Allāh? And He it is Who has revealed to you the Book (this Qur’an), explained in detail. Those whom We have given the 'past' Scripture know that it 'the Qur’an' is revealed from your Lord in truth, so be not of the doubters.
119. What reason have you that you should not eat of that on which the Name of Allāh has been pronounced13, while He has already explained to you in detail what has been forbidden to you - except what you are compelled to14. Indeed many (deviants) would lead (people) astray by their lowly desires without any knowledge. Indeed, your Lord (Allāh) knows best the transgressors.
13. Upon slaughtering it.
14. In cases of dire necessity, what is normally prohibited becomes permissible, but only to the extent of the need.
120. And leave 'you all' the apparent of sin and what is concealed thereof. Those who earn sin will surely be recompensed of what they have been committing (of sins).
121. Do not eat of that on which the Name of Allāh has not been pronounced. for it is indeed disobedience. And Indeed, the devils do inspire to their allies (among men) to dispute with you. If you obey them, you are certainly idolaters (like them).
122. Is he who was dead (heedless of faith), then We gave him (meaningful) life (by accepting Islam), and set for him a Light by which he walks among the people, like him whose likeness in utter darkness where he cannot come forth? Thus it has been made pleasing to the disbelievers that which they were doing.
123. Thus have We made in every town greatest (of) its criminals to conspire therein. But they do not conspire except against themselves, and they do not perceive it.
124. When a Sign comes to them they say: "We shall not believe till we are given the like of what Allah’s messengers were given." Allāh knows best where He places His message. Those who are guilty will soon be overwhelmed by humiliation from Allah and a severe punishment for their evil plots.
125. Whoever Allāh wills to guide, He opens wide his chest for Islam, and for whom He wills to leave astray, He makes his chest tight and constricted as though he were ascending upwards towards the sky. Thus does Allāh place abomination on those who do not believe 'in the Truth'.
128. And the Day when He will gather them all together (for Judgment, saying): " Assembly of jinn, indeed, you have seduced many of mankind". Their allies from among men will say: "Our Lord, some of us made use of others, and we have "now' reached our appointed term which You did appoint for us". He will say: "The Fire "of Hell' is your Home to abide therein forever except as Allāh may will." Your Lord (Allāh) is All-Wise, All-Knowing.
130. "You assembly of jinn and humans, did there not come to you messengers from among you, relating to you My verses and warning you of the meeting of this Day of yours?" They will say: "We bear witness against ourselves." This world’s life deceived them15, and they will bear witness against themselves that they were deniers.
15. This is the reason behind that they were straying; they were lured by this worldly life and all the pleasures it has to offer.
132. And all have degrees (according) to what they have done. Your Lord (Allāh) is not unaware of what they do16.
16. The different ranks people will occupy in the Hereafter either in Hell or Paradise, will be each according to their deeds. The more good one does, the higher rank they will have in Paradise, the more evil one commits the severer the place in Hell.
133. And your Lord (O Prophet) is the Rich 'free of all needs', full of Mercy. If He wills, He can do away with you and replace you with whoever He wills17 (who would obey Him), just as He raised you up from the offspring of another people.
17 But He gives them respite to reflect and try to mend their ways. That He allows people to go on rebelling against Him is not to be mistaken for any lack of ability.
135. Say: "O my people, work according to your position; for indeed I am working; you will soon know, for whom will be the 'good' end of the Home. Surely the unjust will not succeed.
136. They 'the idolaters' set apart a portion for Allāh out of what He has created of crops and cattle, and say: "This is for Allāh" - so they claim, "and this for our partners (idols)." But what is (allocated) for their idols, it does not reach Allāh, while what is (allocated) for Allāh, it reaches their idols18. Evil it is that which they judge.
18. It was an Arab heathen ritual to allocate two shares out of their livestock; a share for Allāh to be spent on the poor and destitute. and a share for idols to be spent on them. If a portion of Allāh’s share was mixed with that of their idols to be spent on them, they would not deduct it, saying that Allāh is in no need of it. Yet if a portion of their idols’ share fell with that of Allāh’s they would readily take it and add it on to their idols’ share.
137. Thus the pagans' evil associates (i.e., demons) have made fair seeming to most of the idolaters the killing of their children, that they may ruin them and confuse them of their faith (and deeds). If Allāh had willed, they would not have done it, so leave them and that which they invent.
138. They say: "These cattle and crops are forbidden, none shall eat from them except whom we will" - so they claim - and cattle whose backs are forbidden, and cattle on which they would not mention Allah’s Name - inventing a lie against Him. He will recompense them for what they invented.
139. They also say: "What is in the wombs of these cattle is exclusively for our males, and forbidden to our spouses." But if it be dead, then they are all partners in it. He will recompense them for what they describe. He is All-Wise, All-Knowing.
140. They are lost indeed who killed their children foolishly without knowledge, and forbid what Allāh has given to them, inventing a lie against Allāh. They have indeed gone astray, and were not guided.
141. It is He 'Allāh' Who produces gardens (of vine), trellised and untrellised, and palms and crops of different flavours, and olives and pomegranates, similar (in shape) yet different (in taste). Eat of its fruit when it bears fruit, and pay the due of it on the day of its harvest. Do not be wasteful. He does not like the wasteful.
142. And of the cattle (are some for) transport19 and some (too small) fit for meat only. Eat of what Allāh has given you and do not follow the footsteps of Satan; for he is your sworn enemy.
19. The Prophet Muhammad said, "While a man was riding a cow, it turned towards him and said, 'I have not been created for this purpose (i.e. riding), I have been created for ploughing." The Prophet went on, "A wolf caught a sheep, and when the shepherd chased it, the wolf said, 'Who will be its guard on the day of wild beasts, when there will be no shepherd for it except me?' "(It has been written that) a wolf also spoke to one of the companions of the Prophet near Madinah. He said, "I was amongst my sheep. Suddenly a wolf caught a sheep and I shouted at it. The wolf sat on its tail and addressed me, saying, 'Who will look after it (i.e. the sheep) when you will be busy and not able to look after it? Do you forbid me the provision which Allāh has provided me?' " He added, "I clapped my hands and said, 'By Allāh, I have never seen anything more curious and wonderful than this!' On that the wolf said, 'There is something (more curious) and wonderful than this; that is, Muhammad, God's messenger, in those palm trees, inviting people to God 'i.e. Islam'.' "Then he went to God's messenger and informed what happened and embraced Islam.
143. Eight in pairs - two of sheep and two of goats. Say: "Has He forbidden the two males or the two females or that which the wombs of the two females contain? Inform me with knowledge if you are truthful.
144. And two of camels and two of cows. Say: "Has He forbidden the two males or the two females or that which the wombs of the two females contain?" Or were you witnesses when Allāh enjoined you with that? Who then is more unjust than he who invents a lie against Allāh to lead people astray without knowledge? Indeed, Allāh does not guide the unjust people.
145. Say (Muhammad): "I do not find that which has been revealed to me anything forbidden for anyone to eat, unless it be carrion, or flowing blood, or pork, for indeed it is impure, or that which is 'slaughtered in' transgression, dedicated to other than Allāh; but whoever is forced by necessity, not desiring it nor exceeding due limits, then your Lord is certainly All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
146. And to those who Judaized, We made unlawful every animal having claws20, and of oxen and sheep We made unlawful to them the fat of both, except such as was on their backs or their entrails or what was mixed with bones. This was a punishment which We repaid them for their rebellion, and We are certainly Truthful.
20. i.e., clawed animals that have nails in their toes, e.g., camels, ostriches, duck, geese, etc.
147. But if they reject you (Muhammad), then say: "Your Lord is the Lord of All-Encompassing Mercy; and His punishment will not be turned away from the wicked people."
148. The idolaters will say: "If Allāh had willed, we would not have worshipped idols, nor our fathers, nor would we have made anything unlawful; even so did those before them deny (God’s messengers) until they tasted the severity of Our wrath. Say: "Have you any (Divine) knowledge with you that you can produce for us?" You follow nothing but conjecture and you are only guessing.
150. Say: "Bring your witnesses who can testify that Allāh has forbidden such 'animals'." If they testify, do not bear witness with them. Do not follow the low desires of those who reject Our verses, and of those who do not believe in the Hereafter, while they make equals with their Lord (Allāh).
151. Say (Muhammad): "Come, I will recite what your Lord has prohibited to you: "Do not associate anything with Allāh 'in worship'21, and to honor and do good with parents. Do not kill your children for 'fear of' poverty, for We provide provision for you and for them. Do not approach indecencies, whether apparent or concealed. Do not kill a life which Allāh has made sacred except with 'legal' right. This He has commanded you, that you may reason.
21. Monotheism is the source of all virtue, whereas polytheism 'associating others with Allāh in worship is the source of all evil.
152. Do not approach the money of the orphan except in the best manner until he attains maturity. Give full measure and weight with justice. We do not impose on any soul a duty except to the extent of its ability. When you speak, then be just in your words though it be "against' a relative. Keep your Covenant with Allāh. This He has commanded you - that you may take heed.
153. And (Know) that this (religion of Islam) is My path, leading right to Me, perfectly straight, so follow it, and do not follow the (diverse) roads, for they will part you away from His way. This He has commanded you - that you may become righteous22.
22. Whoever follows this Straight Path becomes one of the righteous.
154. Furthermore, 'it is We 'Allāh' who gave Moses the Scripture, to complete (Our blessings) upon the one who did good (Moses), and as a detailed explanation of all things and as a guidance and Mercy, so that they might believe in the Meeting of their Lord 'Allāh'.
156. Lest you (pagans) say that the Scripture was only sent down to two parties before us (of Jews and Christians) and indeed We were truly unaware of their study.
157. Or lest you should say: " If only the Scripture had been sent down on us, we would certainly have been better guided than they, so indeed now there has come to you clear proof from your Lord, and a guidance and mercy. Who then is more unjust than he who denies Allah’s verses and turns away from them? We shall recompense those who turn away from Our verses with the worst torment, because of their turning away.
158. Do they then wait for anything other than that the angels should come to them, or that your Lord 'Allāh' should come, or that some of the Signs of your Lord should come. On the Day when some of the Signs of your Lord will come, faith in it will not benefit a soul which did not believe before, or earned good through its faith. Say: "Wait, We too are waiting."
159. Indeed, those who have divided their religion and became sects23 you are not associated with them in anything; their case is only to Allāh 'to judge', then He will inform them of what they used to do 'of evil'.
23. of Judaism, Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, etc.
160. Whoever comes with a good deed, will be rewarded tenfold. Whoever comes with an evil deed, he will be recompensed only with the like of it, and they will not be dealt with unjustly.
161. Say (Muhammad): "As for me, my Lord has guided me to a straight Path; (to) a most right Religion (Islam), the faith of Abraham, the upright one. He was not of the idolaters.
164. Say:"Should I seek other than Allāh for Lord while He is the Lord of everything?" And every soul earns nothing (of evil) except against itself, and no bearer of burden shall bear the burden of another. Then to your Lord (Allāh) is your 'final' return, so He will inform you of all that in which you differed.
165. It is He (Allāh) Who has made you successors in the land, and raised some of you above others by 'various' grades, that He may try you by what He has given you. Your Lord (Allāh) is Swift in punishment, and He is certainly All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
