Al-Qāri‘ah

Umurongo: 1

ٱلۡقَارِعَةُ

1. The striking 'Hour'1.

1. I.e., the Day of Resurrection.

Umurongo: 2

مَا ٱلۡقَارِعَةُ

2. What is the striking 'Hour'?

Umurongo: 3

وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلۡقَارِعَةُ

3. And What makes you realize what the striking 'Hour' is?

Umurongo: 4

يَوۡمَ يَكُونُ ٱلنَّاسُ كَٱلۡفَرَاشِ ٱلۡمَبۡثُوثِ

4. It is the Day, when the people will be as scattered moths (in confusion),

Umurongo: 5

وَتَكُونُ ٱلۡجِبَالُ كَٱلۡعِهۡنِ ٱلۡمَنفُوشِ

5. And the mountains will be like carded wool.

Umurongo: 6

فَأَمَّا مَن ثَقُلَتۡ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ

6. Then, as for the one whose scales of (good deeds) are heavy,

Umurongo: 7

فَهُوَ فِي عِيشَةٖ رَّاضِيَةٖ

7. He will be in a pleasant life (in Paradise).

Umurongo: 8

وَأَمَّا مَنۡ خَفَّتۡ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ

8. But as for the one whose scales (of good deeds) are light,

Umurongo: 9

فَأُمُّهُۥ هَاوِيَةٞ

9. his refuge will be an abyss.¹.

1. Literally, "his nursing mother" (a man's original refuge) is Hell, which will envelop him as in an embrace.

Umurongo: 10

وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا هِيَهۡ

10. And what makes you realize what it is?

Umurongo: 11

نَارٌ حَامِيَةُۢ

11. It is a Fire, intensely hot.
