53. That is because Allāh would never change a favor which He has bestowed upon a people until they first change that which is in their own selves (of goodness); and that Allāh is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.
54. (Their deeds are) like the manner of Pharaoh’s people and those before them. They denied the Revelations of their Lord (Allāh), so We destroyed them for their sins and We drowned Pharaoh’s people, and they were all unjust.
58. If you fear treachery from certain people, then throw back (their treaty) to them (so as to be) on equal terms (that there will be no more treaty between you). Indeed, Allāh does not like the treacherous.
60. Prepare against them16 whatever strength you can and horses 'war mounts' tied at the frontier, to deter thereby the enemy of Allāh and your enemy and others behind them17 whom you do not know, Allāh knows them. Whatever thing you will spend in Allah’s Cause, it will be paid back to you fully, and you shall not be wronged.
16. Muhammad, God's messenger (may peace and blessings be upon him) said on the pulpit: "Prepare against them 'the forces of evil and enemies of Peace'. whatever you are able of power": Indeed, power is in shooting. Indeed, power is in shooting. Indeed, power is in shooting."
This statement of the Prophet explains the type of power that Muslims are commanded to adopt in combating the enemies: shooting, because it is more effective. When the verse was revealed, archery was prevalent. However, the miraculous indications of the verse suggest that this power is not time-bound. It involves all types and tools of shooting in any time and place, and with any weapon.
Muhammad, God's messenger said: "Lands shall be laid open to you, and Allah will suffice you (against your enemies), but none of you should neglect practicing his skill in archery.''
The Prophet Muhammad happened to pass by a group of people who were having a shooting match. (Upon seeing them, he said, "Shoot, O sons of (Prophet) Ishmael, for your father was an archer.'' Arabs are also called Banu Isma`il because they are the descendants of Prophet Ibrahim's son,
Ishmael. This is the reason that Prophet Ibrahim is reckoned an ancestor of the Prophet Muhammad for his being his descendant.
17. The hypocrites and the other deniers who are not a source of threat to you now but may be so in the future.
