53 : 8

ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَمۡ يَكُ مُغَيِّرٗا نِّعۡمَةً أَنۡعَمَهَا عَلَىٰ قَوۡمٍ حَتَّىٰ يُغَيِّرُواْ مَا بِأَنفُسِهِمۡ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٞ

53. That is because Allāh would never change a blessing He has granted to a people until they change what is within themselves, and that Allāh is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

54 : 8

كَدَأۡبِ ءَالِ فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡۚ كَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِ رَبِّهِمۡ فَأَهۡلَكۡنَٰهُم بِذُنُوبِهِمۡ وَأَغۡرَقۡنَآ ءَالَ فِرۡعَوۡنَۚ وَكُلّٞ كَانُواْ ظَٰلِمِينَ

54. [Their deeds are) like the manner of Pharaoh’s people and those before them. They rejected the revelations of their Lord, so We destroyed them for their sins and drowned Pharaoh’s people—all were wrongdoers.

55 : 8

إِنَّ شَرَّ ٱلدَّوَآبِّ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ فَهُمۡ لَا يُؤۡمِنُونَ

55. Indeed, the worst of living creatures in Allah’s Sight are those who persist in disbelief, and therefore do not believe.

56 : 8

ٱلَّذِينَ عَٰهَدتَّ مِنۡهُمۡ ثُمَّ يَنقُضُونَ عَهۡدَهُمۡ فِي كُلِّ مَرَّةٖ وَهُمۡ لَا يَتَّقُونَ

56. Those among them with whom you made a treaty—yet they break their pledge every time, and they do not guard themselves against evil.

57 : 8

فَإِمَّا تَثۡقَفَنَّهُمۡ فِي ٱلۡحَرۡبِ فَشَرِّدۡ بِهِم مَّنۡ خَلۡفَهُمۡ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَذَّكَّرُونَ

57. So when you encounter them in battle, make a fearsome example of them to scatter those who may follow behind them, so that they may be deterred.

58 : 8

وَإِمَّا تَخَافَنَّ مِن قَوۡمٍ خِيَانَةٗ فَٱنۢبِذۡ إِلَيۡهِمۡ عَلَىٰ سَوَآءٍۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلۡخَآئِنِينَ

58. If you fear treachery from any people, then cast their treaty back to them on equal terms. Indeed, Allāh does not like the treacherous.

59 : 8

وَلَا يَحۡسَبَنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ سَبَقُوٓاْۚ إِنَّهُمۡ لَا يُعۡجِزُونَ

59. The disbelievers should think that they have outstripped. Indeed, they will not cause failure [to Allāh].

60 : 8

وَأَعِدُّواْ لَهُم مَّا ٱسۡتَطَعۡتُم مِّن قُوَّةٖ وَمِن رِّبَاطِ ٱلۡخَيۡلِ تُرۡهِبُونَ بِهِۦ عَدُوَّ ٱللَّهِ وَعَدُوَّكُمۡ وَءَاخَرِينَ مِن دُونِهِمۡ لَا تَعۡلَمُونَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ يَعۡلَمُهُمۡۚ وَمَا تُنفِقُواْ مِن شَيۡءٖ فِي سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ يُوَفَّ إِلَيۡكُمۡ وَأَنتُمۡ لَا تُظۡلَمُونَ

60. Prepare against them ^[16], as much as you are able, of strength and of tethered war‑horses —so you may frighten thereby the enemy of Allāh and your enemy and others besides them ^[17] whom you do not know; Allāh knows them. And whatever you spend in the cause of Allāh will be repaid to you fully, and you will not be wronged.

[16]. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said from the pulpit: "Prepare against them—the forces of evil and enemies of peace—with all the power you can muster. Indeed, power lies in shooting, indeed, power lies in shooting, indeed, power lies in shooting."
This statement explains the type of strength Muslims are commanded to adopt when confronting enemies: shooting, because of its effectiveness. At the time, archery was prevalent, but the broader significance of the verse shows that this principle is not limited to a specific era or weapon. It applies to all forms of shooting or ranged power, in any time, place, or with any tool.
The Prophet ﷺ also said: "Lands shall be laid open to you, and Allah will suffice you against your enemies, but none of you should neglect practicing his skill in archery."
Once, the Prophet ﷺ passed by a group of people engaged in a shooting match. Seeing them, he said: "Shoot, O sons of Ishmael, for your father was an archer."
Arabs are also called Banu Isma'il, being descendants of Prophet Ibrahim’s son Ishmael. This is why Prophet Ibrahim is regarded as an ancestor of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
[17] The hypocrites and other disbelievers who are not a threat at present but may become so in the future.

61 : 8

۞ وَإِن جَنَحُواْ لِلسَّلۡمِ فَٱجۡنَحۡ لَهَا وَتَوَكَّلۡ عَلَى ٱللَّهِۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلۡعَلِيمُ

61. If they ^[18] incline toward peace, then incline to it, and place your full trust in Allāh. Indeed, He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.

[18]. The disbelievers who are at war with you.
