Al-Anfāl

يَسۡـَٔلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلۡأَنفَالِۖ قُلِ ٱلۡأَنفَالُ لِلَّهِ وَٱلرَّسُولِۖ فَٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَأَصۡلِحُواْ ذَاتَ بَيۡنِكُمۡۖ وَأَطِيعُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥٓ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤۡمِنِينَ
1.They ask you, [O Prophet], about the spoils [of war]. Say: "The distribution of spoils belongs to Allāh and His Messenger. So fear Allāh, settle any disputes among yourselves, and obey Allāh and His Messenger, if you are true believers."

إِنَّمَا ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَا ذُكِرَ ٱللَّهُ وَجِلَتۡ قُلُوبُهُمۡ وَإِذَا تُلِيَتۡ عَلَيۡهِمۡ ءَايَٰتُهُۥ زَادَتۡهُمۡ إِيمَٰنٗا وَعَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمۡ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ
2. The believers are only those whose hearts tremble with awe, [hope, and love] when Allāh is mentioned. When His verses are recited to them, it increases them in faith, and they place their complete trust in their Lord [1].
[1]. Those who put their hope and trust entirely in Allāh will find their strength restored. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “Trust in Allāh, and He will provide for you as He provides for the birds—they leave their nests hungry in the morning and return at dusk with full bellies.”

ٱلَّذِينَ يُقِيمُونَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَمِمَّا رَزَقۡنَٰهُمۡ يُنفِقُونَ
3. They are those who establish the prayers and spend from what We have provided them [in the cause of Allāh].

أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ حَقّٗاۚ لَّهُمۡ دَرَجَٰتٌ عِندَ رَبِّهِمۡ وَمَغۡفِرَةٞ وَرِزۡقٞ كَرِيمٞ
4. These are the true believers. For them are high ranks with their Lord, forgiveness, and an honorable provision [in Paradise].

كَمَآ أَخۡرَجَكَ رَبُّكَ مِنۢ بَيۡتِكَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَإِنَّ فَرِيقٗا مِّنَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ لَكَٰرِهُونَ
5. Just as your Lord caused you to depart from your home in truth [2], and indeed a party of the believers were averse to it [3];
[2]. For the battle of Badr to fight for justice and peace.
[3]. As they felt disquiet about the distribution of war booty.

يُجَٰدِلُونَكَ فِي ٱلۡحَقِّ بَعۡدَ مَا تَبَيَّنَ كَأَنَّمَا يُسَاقُونَ إِلَى ٱلۡمَوۡتِ وَهُمۡ يَنظُرُونَ
6. They disputed with you about the Truth after it had become clear, as if they were being driven towards death, while they were looking on.

وَإِذۡ يَعِدُكُمُ ٱللَّهُ إِحۡدَى ٱلطَّآئِفَتَيۡنِ أَنَّهَا لَكُمۡ وَتَوَدُّونَ أَنَّ غَيۡرَ ذَاتِ ٱلشَّوۡكَةِ تَكُونُ لَكُمۡ وَيُرِيدُ ٱللَّهُ أَن يُحِقَّ ٱلۡحَقَّ بِكَلِمَٰتِهِۦ وَيَقۡطَعَ دَابِرَ ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ
7. And [remember, O believers] when Allāh promised you one of the two groups [4]—that it would be yours—and you wished that the one unarmed would be yours. But Allāh intended to establish the truth by His words and to eliminate the roots of the disbelievers.
[4]. Of the enemy, either the caravan or the band of Meccan fighters.

لِيُحِقَّ ٱلۡحَقَّ وَيُبۡطِلَ ٱلۡبَٰطِلَ وَلَوۡ كَرِهَ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُونَ
8. So that He might establish the Truth thereby and abolish falsehood, even though the criminals detested it.
