وَمِنۡ حَيۡثُ خَرَجۡتَ فَوَلِّ وَجۡهَكَ شَطۡرَ ٱلۡمَسۡجِدِ ٱلۡحَرَامِۚ وَحَيۡثُ مَا كُنتُمۡ فَوَلُّواْ وُجُوهَكُمۡ شَطۡرَهُۥ لِئَلَّا يَكُونَ لِلنَّاسِ عَلَيۡكُمۡ حُجَّةٌ إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ مِنۡهُمۡ فَلَا تَخۡشَوۡهُمۡ وَٱخۡشَوۡنِي وَلِأُتِمَّ نِعۡمَتِي عَلَيۡكُمۡ وَلَعَلَّكُمۡ تَهۡتَدُونَ
150. Wherever you go out (to prayer), turn your face towards the Sacred Mosque (in Makkah); and wherever you (believers) may be, turn your faces towards it, so that the people37 may have no argument against you, unless they be those of them who are unjust; so do not fear them38, but fear Me - that I (Allah) may complete My Favor upon you and that you may be guided.
37. I.e., the followers of the past Scripture.
38. It is no wonder that the message to “Fear not…” appears so frequently in the Qur’an. Fear does, after all, have a way of creeping in on us, though we may close the windows tight and double check the doors. We might fear losing someone dear to us, or worry about our future or our children’s. When we close our eyes for a night’s sleep, our minds may begin turning over a hundred what-ifs about tomorrow, filling us with anxiety about circumstances beyond our control. While fear is a common human experience, the Quran's promise that Allah is Our Protector, for Allah is always with Us.
