48 : 9

لَقَدِ ٱبۡتَغَوُاْ ٱلۡفِتۡنَةَ مِن قَبۡلُ وَقَلَّبُواْ لَكَ ٱلۡأُمُورَ حَتَّىٰ جَآءَ ٱلۡحَقُّ وَظَهَرَ أَمۡرُ ٱللَّهِ وَهُمۡ كَٰرِهُونَ

48.They had already sought (to sow) dissension from before, and had upset matters for you (to cause you failure) until the truth (victory) came, and Allah’s Command prevailed, although they were averse (to it).

49 : 9

وَمِنۡهُم مَّن يَقُولُ ٱئۡذَن لِّي وَلَا تَفۡتِنِّيٓۚ أَلَا فِي ٱلۡفِتۡنَةِ سَقَطُواْۗ وَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ لَمُحِيطَةُۢ بِٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ

49. Among them there is he who says: "Grant me permission (to stay at home) and do not put me into temptation." Unquestionably, into the temptation ^[21] they fallen down. And indeed, Hell certainly encompasses the disbelievers.

[21]. By avoiding their obligations, they fell into trial.

50 : 9

إِن تُصِبۡكَ حَسَنَةٞ تَسُؤۡهُمۡۖ وَإِن تُصِبۡكَ مُصِيبَةٞ يَقُولُواْ قَدۡ أَخَذۡنَآ أَمۡرَنَا مِن قَبۡلُ وَيَتَوَلَّواْ وَّهُمۡ فَرِحُونَ

50. If good befalls you, it grieves them, but if hardship afflicts you, they say: "We have taken our precaution beforehand ^[22]." And they turn back while they are rejoicing.

[22]. The hypocrites claim to have protected themselves by remaining behind from the Jihâd (i.e., going to war to establish justice, peace, and order).

51 : 9

قُل لَّن يُصِيبَنَآ إِلَّا مَا كَتَبَ ٱللَّهُ لَنَا هُوَ مَوۡلَىٰنَاۚ وَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَلۡيَتَوَكَّلِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ

51. Say (O Muhammad): "Nothing will happen to us except what Allāh has decreed for us; He is our Protector." On Allāh alone let the believers rely ^[23].

[23]. Regardless of the trials we face, we know that true happiness comes to all who maintain their complete trust in Allāh.

52 : 9

قُلۡ هَلۡ تَرَبَّصُونَ بِنَآ إِلَّآ إِحۡدَى ٱلۡحُسۡنَيَيۡنِۖ وَنَحۡنُ نَتَرَبَّصُ بِكُمۡ أَن يُصِيبَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِعَذَابٖ مِّنۡ عِندِهِۦٓ أَوۡ بِأَيۡدِينَاۖ فَتَرَبَّصُوٓاْ إِنَّا مَعَكُم مُّتَرَبِّصُونَ

52.  Say (O Muhammad): "Do you await for us (anything) except one of two most excellent things (martyrdom or victory)? And we are awaiting for you that Allāh will afflict you with torment from Himself or by our hands. So wait; we too are waiting with you."

53 : 9

قُلۡ أَنفِقُواْ طَوۡعًا أَوۡ كَرۡهٗا لَّن يُتَقَبَّلَ مِنكُمۡ إِنَّكُمۡ كُنتُمۡ قَوۡمٗا فَٰسِقِينَ

53. Say: "Spend willingly or unwillingly, it will not be accepted from you; you are indeed a 'defiantly' disobedient people."

54 : 9

وَمَا مَنَعَهُمۡ أَن تُقۡبَلَ مِنۡهُمۡ نَفَقَٰتُهُمۡ إِلَّآ أَنَّهُمۡ كَفَرُواْ بِٱللَّهِ وَبِرَسُولِهِۦ وَلَا يَأۡتُونَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ إِلَّا وَهُمۡ كُسَالَىٰ وَلَا يُنفِقُونَ إِلَّا وَهُمۡ كَٰرِهُونَ

54. Nothing prevents their spending being accepted from them, except that they deny Allāh and His messenger, and they do not come to prayer but lazily, and they do not spend but reluctantly.
