Ash-Sharh

段: 1

أَلَمۡ نَشۡرَحۡ لَكَ صَدۡرَكَ

1. Did We not expand for you (Muhammad) your chest¹,

1. I.e., comfort, assure, and enlighten your heart with guidance.

段: 2

وَوَضَعۡنَا عَنكَ وِزۡرَكَ

2. And relieved you of your burden²,

2. Forgave your previous or future errors, or relieved you of the anxiety you experienced at the beginning of your mission.

段: 3

ٱلَّذِيٓ أَنقَضَ ظَهۡرَكَ

3. Which weighed heavily on your back?

段: 4

وَرَفَعۡنَا لَكَ ذِكۡرَكَ

4. Have We not raised high your repute?

段: 5

فَإِنَّ مَعَ ٱلۡعُسۡرِ يُسۡرًا

5. Indeed, after every hardship there is relief.

段: 6

إِنَّ مَعَ ٱلۡعُسۡرِ يُسۡرٗا

6. After every hardship there is relief.

段: 7

فَإِذَا فَرَغۡتَ فَٱنصَبۡ

7. So when you have finished (your prayer), exert yourself (in supplication).

段: 8

وَإِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَٱرۡغَب

8. And to your Lord (Allah alone) turn (all) your devotions and worship.
