[2]. Injīl (Evangel; Gospel) is the Arabic name for the Scripture that was given to Jesus.-Injīl, in Islam, is not to be identified with the extant biblical ‘New Testament’; rather it is believed, as told in the Qur’an, to have been revealed to Jesus, son of Mary, as a whole. It is also believed to have either been lost or corrupted. The same goes for the Torah, to a great extent. Not all the words in the today's Bible are God’s words. But there are some words of the bible are God's which is confirmed by the Qur’an. Any one who says that the words of the bible are all the words of God is blaspheming God. The Qur'an is unique in being the only Book that is free of inaccuracies, whose text has been so carefully preserved and are all God's Words.
[3]. Righteousness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. If we have our daily food, clothing, home, health and peace, with these, one must be content. Those who desire to be rich by any means fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs. Muhammad, the Messenger of God ﷺ said: “The one among you who wakes up secure in his property, healthy in his body and has his food for the day, it is as if the whole world were brought to him.”
[4]. It is human nature to desire such things as are alluring. But the true Faith requires resisting worldly temptations, putting them second to seeking Allah’s Pleasure, and devoting oneself to Allāh by following the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, God's last and final Messenger as his example.
[5]. The meaning of the word 'Islām' is "submission to the will of God." This is the way of life ordained by God and taught by all of the prophets from Adam to Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ). It conveys two meanings: yielding and surrender, and devoting one’s surrender to Allāh (God) alone. A Muslim is the one who submits and surrenders himself to God.
[6]. Jesus said: “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee” (Matthew xxiii, 37, Matthew xxiii, 34-35, Luke xi, 51).
[7]. Such as falsely saying that they will only enter Fire, as Punishment for their sins, for a few days and then they will be entered into Paradise.
[8]. Believers are given permission here to appease the disbelievers with their tongues, yet their hearts are to remain firm in Faith.
[9]. If you love Allāh - you are patient, loving, kind, and merciful; you don't envy or boast; you are not arrogant or rude. You do not knowingly insist on the wrong way; rather, you will follow the Way of Allāh (Islam) taking as your example the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and following him.
[10]. “Allāh chose them above all people of their times: Adam, whom Allāh created with His own hands and before whom He commanded the angels to bow; Noah, the first messenger sent to humanity; Abraham, the beloved of Allāh, whose descendants included many prophets, among them Muhammad (ﷺ), the last and final messenger of Allāh; and the family of ʿImrān: ʿAmram and his wife, their daughter Mary, and her son Jesus, one of the greatest prophets of the Children of Israel.”
[11]. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “Every newborn child is touched by the devil and they start off by wailing because of this touch, except Mary and her son Jesus ”.
[12]. Wholesome fruits which did not belong to that season.
[13]. The ‘Word of Allāh ’ is Jesus who was conceived by Mary through Allah’s Word 'Be' and he was.
[14]. Zachariah did not address the angel or ask him for anything but rather, being fully cognizant that Allāh is ever near and answering of Prayers, directed his Prayers to Allāh and not the intermediary.
[15]. Jesus was not conceived by any human act of procreation but rather, like Adam, through Allah’s commanding Word: Be! Thus he is called “the Word of Allāh ”.
[16]. Every single one of the Israelite prophets came for the Israelites. He was not sent to preach to the Gentiles, including Jesus. Jesus was an Israelite prophet for the Israelites. But Prophet Muhammad was sent to the Arabs, Jewish and the Gentiles, to black and white. In other words, to the whole world as mercy for all the creations.
[17]. Such as working on the Sabbath day, the ban which is now lifted, the fat of oxen and sheep, eating fish and birds which had no spikes, etc.
[18]. In both spiritual supremacy and temporal leadership.
[19]. Doubt is an experience common to all people. Even those with faith in Allāh may struggle with it in different ways. Some are greatly hindered by doubt; others view it as a challenge to overcome; and some even see it as a springboard for growth.
The Qur’an and Sunnah speak about the causes of doubt and provide examples of people who struggled with it. A useful definition of doubt is “to lack confidence, or to consider something unlikely.”
The Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) said:
“Satan comes to one of you and says, ‘Who created such-and-such?’ until he says, ‘Who created your Lord?’ If he reaches that stage, one should seek refuge with Allāh and give up such thoughts.”
When Satan tempted Adam and Eve, Allāh had already given them a clear command regarding the tree and had specified the consequence of disobedience. Satan planted doubt in their minds when he asked: “Did Allāh really say, ‘You shall not eat from any tree in the garden’?” His aim was to make them lose confidence in Allāh’s command. When they affirmed what Allāh had said, including the warning, Satan followed up with denial. (See Qur’an 2:35–36; 7:20–22; 20:120–121)
Thus, doubt is one of Satan’s tools to make us lose confidence in Allāh’s Word and consider His judgment unlikely.
Yet we cannot place all the blame on Satan. The Qur’an makes clear that we are responsible for our own doubts. For example, when Zechariah was visited by the angel and told he would be granted a son (John), he doubted the message. Reasoning that he and his wife were too old to have children, he asked for a sign. In response, the angel told him that he would be mute for a period of time. (See Qur’an 3:38–41; 19:2–10)
Similarly, others have doubted Allāh’s power to overcome natural obstacles, such as in the story of Ezra (ʿUzayr). When he wondered how Allāh could bring life to a ruined city, Allāh caused him to die for a hundred years and then resurrected him, showing him His absolute power. (See Qur’an 2:259)
Whenever human reasoning overshadows trust in Allāh, sinful doubt arises.
Faith means trusting Allāh even when His plan seems to go against human reason or experience.
[20]. I.e., Jesus being a servant of God and a messenger, and having no share in Divinity.
[21]. The descriptions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in the Bible.
[22]. Allāh rains down grace on all mankind. One of the greatest and noblest blessings that Allāh has bestowed upon us is sending the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to us and sending down His Book the Qur’an to us, and showing us the straight path. Allāh also gave us the beauty and wonders of nature that we see each and every day. He often brings us the right thing just in time. He also gave us an innate conscience to know right from wrong.
[23]. We all find it comforting to consider the reality that there is Allāh, the Creator, the author of life, who is, in his very nature, loving and who loves the righteous.
The Qur’an also tells us (over and over) that Allāh is just. Allāh is the judge of the world. And a just judge is a righteous one. A righteous judge does not let the guilty go unpunished. Allāh loves righteousness and justice. He will repay each one according to his works: eternal life to those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality; but wrath and anger to those who are self-seeking and disobey the truth while obeying unrighteousness.
[24]. Such as the holy spirit.
[25]. Such as jesus christ.
[26]. It is possible that this oath was taken at the time the offspring of Adam were taken out of his back as breaths or taken from each Prophet at the time of his mission”.
[27]. Submission to the Will of God, inner peace and righteously living.
[28]. Muhammad, God's Messenger ﷺ said: "By Him in Whose Hand Muhammad’s soul is, there is none from amongst the Jews and the Christians (of these present nations) who hears about me and then dies without believing in the Message with which I have been sent (i.e. Islâmic Monotheism), but he will be from the dwellers of the Hellfire."
[29]. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said, "An idolater will be asked: ‘Suppose you had as much gold as to fill the earth, would you offer it to ransom yourself (from the Hell-Fire)?’ He will reply, ‘Yes.’ Then it will be said to him, ‘You were asked for something less than that (to join none in worship) with Allāh, but you refused.
[30]. The reward for it, which is Paradise.
[31]. Camel's meat and its milk. When he was afflicted with sciatica, as he made a vow to Allāh that if he were cured he would not eat the camel meat and drink the camel milk again which he loved much.
[32]. They are chastised for devising schemes to deviate people from the Straight Path of Islam while being fully aware and secretly bearing witness to its Truth.
[33[. By holding tight to the surest of ties i.e. Islam.
[34]. By doing all that He has ordered and by abstaining from all that He has prohibited. He is to be obeyed and not disobeyed, to be remembered always and not to be forgotten, to give Him thanks and not to be ingrate and denier. If we make real commitments to follow the Qur'an and the tradition of the Prophet Muhammad in a truthful, just and righteous way, then Allāh will bless us in this world and the Hereafter.
[35]. I.e., submitting to the Will of God.
[36]. I.e., tribal and party strife and the violence of one another.
[37]. Once they have submitted, the People of the Scripture retain their rights and honor (in spite of their refusal of Islām) through payment of the jizyah tax in place of Zakāh and military service due from Muslims. They are then under the protection of the Islāmic state.
[38]. Those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize. Run in such a way that you may obtain it through right faith and constant good deeds, discipline, avoiding distractions. Everyone who competes for the prize is moderate and self-restraint in all things. Now they do it for worldly gain, but you do race for the Hereafter life and a Paradise the vastness of which is as the vastness of the heavens and the earth prepared for the righteous.
[39]. As strategic allies, revealing to them your secrets and the particulars of your state of affairs.
[40]. I.e., the Jews, Christians, and pagans.
[41]. On account of their pretence of friendship towards you.
[42]. Since they oppose you in religion.
[43]. Such as the Torah and the Gospel, while they disbelieve in the Qur’an, God's Last Message and Testament.
[44]. I.e., banu Salamah and banu Harithah.
[45]. Mohammad, God's messenger ﷺ said, "Avoid the seven deadly sins." The people enquired, "O God's Messenger, what are they?" He said, "(1) To join others in worship along with Allāh, (2) to practise sorcery, (3) to kill a person which Allāh has forbidden except for a just cause (according to Islâmic law), (4) to consume Ribâ (usury), (5) to consume an orphan’s wealth, (6) to show one’s back to the enemy and fleeing from the battlefield at the time of fighting for the Cause of God, (7) and to accuse chaste women (or men) of adultery, who never even think of anything touching their chastity and are true believers".
[46]. It implies aligning our will to Allah's will; doing what Allāh has asked us to do. It is when we completely surrender to His authority and base our decisions and our actions on His Word.
[47]. I.e. prophet Muhanmad ﷺ, to have faith and confidence in him and to follow and do what he commands us to do and abstain from what he prohibited us.
[48]. Mohammad, God's messenger ﷺ said, "Charity is obligatory everyday on every joint of a human being". If one helps a person in matters concerning his riding means by helping him to ride on it or by lifting his luggage on to it, all this will be regarded as charity. A good word, and every step one takes to offer the obligatory congregational prayer is regarded as charity; and guiding somebody on the road is regarded as charity."
[49]. Muhammad, God's Messenger ﷺ said, "The strong is not the one who overcomes the people by his strength, but the strong is the one who controls himself while in anger."
[50]. Allah’s primary characteristic is His forgiving love and mercy, shown by His patient. Allāh is unique and distinct from the so-called gods of the pagan nations. Allāh showed his great love to us that He sent us his last and final messenger, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, that we might follow the right Path and live honorably in this world and the Hereafter.
[51]. Those Divine laws and canons which stipulate that victory and defeat take turns and are ever interchangeable between believers and deniers. The deliverance of the believers is assured after putting them to the test.
[52]. Do not be anxious over anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication along with thanksgiving, let your petitions be made known to Allāh; and the peace of Allāh that surpasses all circumstances will guard your hearts and your mental powers by means of following God's last and final messenger, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
[54]. Mohammad, God's Messenger ﷺ said: "Anybody (from among the Muslims) who meets, gathers together, lives, and stays (permanently) with a pagan or unbeliever and agrees to his ways, opinions, etc. and (enjoys) his living with him then he is like him."
[55]. Such as the possibility of your town being destroyed by the victorious army and the loss of your fighting companions.
[56]. The rumor of the death of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ .
[57]. Whether war booty, public or private funds; and that is to stealthily, illegally seize possession of something; in this instance, spoils of war in particular.
[58]. Muhammad, God's Messenger ﷺ said, "Whosoever among you is appointed by us in a position and he conceals from us even a needle or less, it will amount to misappropriation and he wil be called upon to restore it on the Day of Resurrection. A black man from the Ansar stood up I can see him still - and said: "O Messenger of God, take back from me your assignment." He (the Prophet) ﷺ said, "What has happened to you?" The man replied: "I have heard you saying such and such.'He said, I say that even now. Whoever of you is appointed by us to a position, he should render an account of everything, big or small, and whatever he is given therefrom, he should take and he should desist from taking what is unlawful". Here functionaries of government are warned to perform their duties with co-operation and integrity. If they neglect their duties or take undue advantage of their official position, they will be held guilty by Allāh for dereliction of their duties and misuse of power. It also tells us that it is the duty of the superior officers to keep a strict watch on their subordinates and not to let them indulge in pribery and abuse; otherwise, their negligence or slackness or overlooking or shirking from their duty in this behalf will also be treated as crime. It is not difficult to imagine the fate of such officers who conspire in the loot and plunder as is the case in many societies today.
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “By Allāh none of you misappropriates part of it ˹collected mandatory alms, public funds, or war booty˺ without him meeting Allāh on the Day of Judgement carrying it. And I shall know everyone of you who meets Allāh carrying a camel grunting, a cow lowing or a goat bleating...”
[59]. Know that our first obligation is knowing that there is no true deity except Allāh. He is the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last. He is the singlemost without any second. He is the Creator of the heavens and earth and whatever is in them and between them and He is the Subtle, the Aware, and has power over all things. Then the second most important thing is to belief in the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and acknowledgment that Allāh sent him to all of humanity as a bearer of glad tidings, a warner, a caller (of people) to God by His permission and an illuminating torch of light.
[60]. Allāh states that even though the martyrs were killed in this life, their souls are alive and receiving provisions in the Dwelling of Everlasting Life. The companions of the Prophet asked him about this Verse, "Do not think that those who are killed in Allah’s Way as dead. Rather, they are alive (and) are provided good provision from their Lord 'Allāh'." and he said, "Their souls are inside green birds that have lamps, which are hanging below the Throne 'of Allāh', and they wander about in Paradise wherever they wish. Then they return to those lamps. Allāh looks at them and says, `Do you wish for anything' They say, `What more could we wish for, while we go wherever we wish in Paradise' Allāh asked them this question thrice, and when they realize that He will keep asking them until they give an answer, they say, `O Lord, we wish that our souls be returned to our bodies so that we are killed in Your cause again.' Allāh knew that they did not have any other wish, so they were left."' The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ also said, “No one who enters Paradise would like to return to the world, even if he could have everything on earth, except for the martyr. He will wish to return to the world and be killed ten more times due to the generous reward he sees.”
[61]. In Allāh alone is found hope, safety, and peace. We do not have to be afraid of our enemies. When life gets hard, we can pray to Allāh to find real help and strength.
[62]. Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid, for Allāh your Lord is the one who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. So do not be afraid or terrified because of them. Do not be discouraged.
[63]. Both men and women are born of each other and are looked upon equally.
[64]. The Qur’an teaches us to be patient in the face of life’s trials and tribulations and
in our interactions with others. We are encouraged to clothe ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience when dealing with others. We are reminded to be patient with those who may be difficult or challenging to love.
[65]. I.e., the fact of ‘tying up’ one’s war mounts at outposts to protect the borders from enemy attack.
