[1]. The Qur'an is filled with verses about angels. Allāh created the angels filled with the power given by Allāh. Angels are messengers of Allāh, created to serve and worship Him, and can intercede and protect His creations. Allāh commands his angels to guard the true believers.
[2]. One should not be overly attached to worldly (non-spiritual) things. Believers are to love Allāh and His messenger Muhammad ﷺ more than any one else, and love also one another, not the world or possessions. Those who love the world whole heartedly, cannot truly love Allāh. These highlight the contrast between love of the world and love of Allāh. Jesus, God's Messenger to Israelites, offered an example of this contrast when He was tempted by Satan in the wilderness. Satan told Jesus He could rule all the kingdoms of the world - if He would bow down to him. Jesus replied, "Be gone, Satan. For it is written: You shall worship Allāh your God and him only shall you serve and worship".
[3]. O Allāh, deliver me from the devil’s deception. Saving God, give me grace to live for You and die for you, to pray to You only and to make my sacrifices and vows to You only. There is none like You O Allāh, and there is no god besides You.
[4]. Satan is to be looked upon as an enemy, and to be opposed as such, and to be watched and guarded against; the whole armour of God should be taken and made use of, particularly the weapon of prayer, the word of God 'the Qur’an', and the shield of faith; and also the grace of humility.
[5]. Allāh commanded us that we maintain true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another, that we do not oppress the widow or the orphan, the stranger, the foreigner or the poor, and that we do not plot evil against each other.
[6]. Allah our Lord and King is the God for all mankind. That means we cannot place any god or idol in front of Him and our worship of him. This implies that Allah, our God, is all powerful, that he is able to do everything that he pleases, nothing is hard for him and nothing is hidden from Him.
[7]. From the Justice of Allāh is that He will not count others who are innocent, as guilty for the sins of their fathers through ‘ancestral’ or ‘original’ sin.
[8]. The four examples given by Allāh in verses 19-22 are those of the believer and unbeliever, disbelief and belief, Paradise and Hellfire, and those receptive to guidance and those unreceptive.
[9]. I.e. your duty is to convey God's Message to mankind but the guidance is God's. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is mercy given by Allāh to all others. He did everything to show the people the right way. He was shelter to those who feel marginalized, such as the poor, strangers, foreigners, and the elderly, ensuring they feel part of the community.
[10]. Sending Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as God's last and final messenger is great blessing. Allāh sent the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ into the world to convey His message. We are grateful to our prophet who, at the end of His call to Islamic Monotheism, was able to look to heaven and say, “I have brought you glory on earth by finishing well the mission you gave me to do. The Prophet Muhammad’s mission was to fulfill God's plan on the earth, to seek and save the pagans, the lost Jews and Christians and guide them all to the straight Path of Islam.
[11]. Reciting the Qur’an is a spiritual discipline, which means that we need to be disciplined in how we approach it. If you lack the desire to recite the Qur’an, pray and ask that Allāh would give you a desire for His word. Then, build a time into your day to recite his Book, meditate it, and make this time a priority. You should then find people to hold you accountable to a reciting plan. Maybe even start a reciting plan with someone or group.
[12]. Of the Torah, the Psalms, the Gospel, etc.
When the Prophet (ﷺ) got up at night to offer the night prayer, he used to say: (O Allāh! All the praises are for you, You are the Holder of the Heavens and the Earth, And whatever is in them. All the praises are for You; You have the possession of the Heavens and the Earth And whatever is in them. All the praises are for You; You are the Light of the Heavens and the Earth And all the praises are for You; You are the King of the Heavens and the Earth; And all the praises are for You; You are the Truth and Your Promise is the truth, And to meet You is true, Your Word is the truth And Paradise is true And Hell is true And all the Prophets (Peace be upon them) are true; And Muhammad is true, And the Day of Resurrection is true. O Allāh ! I surrender (my will) to You; I believe in You and depend on You. And repent to You, And with Your help I argue (with my opponents, the non-believers) And I take You as a judge (to judge between us). Please forgive me my previous And future sins; And whatever I concealed or revealed And You are the One who make (some people) forward And (some) backward. There is none worthy to be worshipped but you . There is neither might nor power except with Allāh.
[13]. Who mixes good deeds with evil ones.
[14]. Who fulfills the minimum requirements and avoids the forbidden acts.
[15]. Grief, sickness, suffering and sadness are part and parcel of this imperfect world but it is not attributed to Allāh. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “And evil is not attributable to You O Allāh ”. Thus Allâh’s decree by itself has no evil whatsoever, because it is coming from perfect mercy and wisdom. Evil may, however, result from some of His decrees. Despite this, evil in His decree is not pure evil. It is rather evil in one respect and good in another, or it is evil in one case and good in another. Thus corruption in the land resulting from drought, disease, poverty, and fear is evil, but it is good in another respect. Allâh, the Exalted said: “Corruption has appeared on the land and sea for what men’s hands have earned. Allâh has ordained this for men, so that they may taste some of what they have done, in order that they may turn back [from evil] .” Allāh is loving, kind, most compassionate and most merciful. He is completely good. Allāh is light, and in him is no darkness at all. People dying because of some complicated diseases are just one of the many things that show how this imperfect world works! It doesn’t matter if you’re pious or wicked - one day, you will get sick and you’ll die. But if you die as a Muslim, believer, believing in Allāh and following His messenger, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, you will be in the next life in a place where there is no sickness, suffering, or sadness. A perfect world, a world like Allāh intended it to be. No doubt, we are required to live in this world a righteous life so that we live good in it despite it's trials and tests. If anything bad happen to us in this imperfect world it is what our hands has earned and Allāh pardons much. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to seek refuge in Allāh from grief, anxiety, sorrow, disability, laziness, cowardice, miserliness, the burdens of debt, and the repression of men. He also used to seek refuge in Allāh from doubt, associating partners with Allāh, bias, anger, injustice, jealousy, the ills of the heart, reaching the age of second childhood - senile old age, and the torment of the grave. Which are all experienced in this imperfect world. But once you are admitted to paradise, you will forget all the ills and the hardships of this imperfect world and will thank Allāh for the great reward.
[16]. Throughout history, flawed human beings have embraced ever-changing versions of truth or personal preferred realities to suit their desires. However, the Qur’an points to one truth, the one true God, Allāh, and one way to salvation—the Qur’an and Prophet Muhammad's way 'Sunnah'. The prophet Muhammad ﷺ affirmed that people, like all created things, are temporal, fallible. The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of Allāh 'the Qur’an' and the way 'Sunnah' of His messenger, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, endures forever.
