Translation of the meanings Surah: Adh-Dhāriyāt   Ayah:

Adh-Dhāriyāt

وَٱلذَّٰرِيَٰتِ ذَرۡوٗا
1. By the winds that carry (dust) particles,
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
فَٱلۡحَٰمِلَٰتِ وِقۡرٗا
2. By the clouds that bear heavy loads (of water).
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
فَٱلۡجَٰرِيَٰتِ يُسۡرٗا
3. By the (ships) that sail (on the seas) with ease,
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
فَٱلۡمُقَسِّمَٰتِ أَمۡرًا
4. By the angels that distribute the provisions (the rains, by Allah’s Command).
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
إِنَّمَا تُوعَدُونَ لَصَادِقٞ
5. That what you are promised (of Resurrection) is certainly true,
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
وَإِنَّ ٱلدِّينَ لَوَٰقِعٞ
6. And the Recompense is sure to happen.

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلۡحُبُكِ
7. By the beautiful heaven full of paths.

إِنَّكُمۡ لَفِي قَوۡلٖ مُّخۡتَلِفٖ
8. Your statements are certainly contradicting (about this Qur’an and the Prophet Muhammad),
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
يُؤۡفَكُ عَنۡهُ مَنۡ أُفِكَ
9. Turned away from (this Qur’an and the Prophet Muhammad) is he who is turned¹.
1. Because of his arrogance and persistence in sin.

قُتِلَ ٱلۡخَرَّٰصُونَ
10. Cursed are those whose opinions (about the Qur’an and the Prophet) are merely baseless conjectures.

ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ فِي غَمۡرَةٖ سَاهُونَ
11. Who wander in the abyss of confusion (about the Hereafter life);

يَسۡـَٔلُونَ أَيَّانَ يَوۡمُ ٱلدِّينِ
12. They ask (mockingly): "When is the Day of Recompense?"

يَوۡمَ هُمۡ عَلَى ٱلنَّارِ يُفۡتَنُونَ
13. (It is) the Day on which they will be punished (i e., burned) over the Fire.

ذُوقُواْ فِتۡنَتَكُمۡ هَٰذَا ٱلَّذِي كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَسۡتَعۡجِلُونَ
14. (And will be told): "Taste your trial (punishment i.e., burning). This is what you used to ask to be hastened."

إِنَّ ٱلۡمُتَّقِينَ فِي جَنَّٰتٖ وَعُيُونٍ
15. The pious will be in Gardens and Springs.

ءَاخِذِينَ مَآ ءَاتَىٰهُمۡ رَبُّهُمۡۚ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ قَبۡلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُحۡسِنِينَ
16. Taking joy what their Lord (Allah) gives them. They were before this doers of good.

كَانُواْ قَلِيلٗا مِّنَ ٱلَّيۡلِ مَا يَهۡجَعُونَ
17. They used to sleep but little of the night².
2. Being constant in voluntary night prayers, or by not letting a night pass except by spending a portion of it in prayer.

وَبِٱلۡأَسۡحَارِ هُمۡ يَسۡتَغۡفِرُونَ
18. Before dawn, they would pray to (Allah) asking forgiveness.

وَفِيٓ أَمۡوَٰلِهِمۡ حَقّٞ لِّلسَّآئِلِ وَٱلۡمَحۡرُومِ
19. And in their wealth there is a share for the one who asks and for the deprived.

وَفِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ ءَايَٰتٞ لِّلۡمُوقِنِينَ
20. In the earth there are evidences (of the Truth) for those who have certain Faith,

وَفِيٓ أَنفُسِكُمۡۚ أَفَلَا تُبۡصِرُونَ
21. (There are also evidences of Truth) in your own selves - will you not then see?
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
وَفِي ٱلسَّمَآءِ رِزۡقُكُمۡ وَمَا تُوعَدُونَ
22. In the heaven is your provision and that which you are promised.

فَوَرَبِّ ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ إِنَّهُۥ لَحَقّٞ مِّثۡلَ مَآ أَنَّكُمۡ تَنطِقُونَ
23. By (Allah) the Lord of the heaven and the earth. It is the Truth, just as (sure as) you can speak.

هَلۡ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ضَيۡفِ إِبۡرَٰهِيمَ ٱلۡمُكۡرَمِينَ
24. Has there come to you the story of the honorable guests of Abraham?

إِذۡ دَخَلُواْ عَلَيۡهِ فَقَالُواْ سَلَٰمٗاۖ قَالَ سَلَٰمٞ قَوۡمٞ مُّنكَرُونَ
25. When they (the angels) entered upon him, they said: ‘Peace be with you.’ He answered: ‘Peace be with you,’ and said: ‘You are strangers (to us).’

فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰٓ أَهۡلِهِۦ فَجَآءَ بِعِجۡلٖ سَمِينٖ
26. Then he went quietly to his family, and brought a fat (roasted) calf³,
3. Thinking them humans. Allah calls us to care for those far from their homelands. Because He’s the defender of the fatherless, the widow, and the stranger, and because we knew what such vulnerability look like. Allah often uses hospitality to bless the host, not just the guest, just as Abraham was blessed by his three foreign visitors. Welcoming strangers into our home is hard, but we are the real beneficiaries.

فَقَرَّبَهُۥٓ إِلَيۡهِمۡ قَالَ أَلَا تَأۡكُلُونَ
27. So he placed it near them. He said: "Will you not eat?"

فَأَوۡجَسَ مِنۡهُمۡ خِيفَةٗۖ قَالُواْ لَا تَخَفۡۖ وَبَشَّرُوهُ بِغُلَٰمٍ عَلِيمٖ
28. He began to feel afraid of them. They said: "Fear not." And then (the angels) gave him the good news of a knowledgeable son (i.e., the birth of Isaac).

فَأَقۡبَلَتِ ٱمۡرَأَتُهُۥ فِي صَرَّةٖ فَصَكَّتۡ وَجۡهَهَا وَقَالَتۡ عَجُوزٌ عَقِيمٞ
29. His wife came forward with a cry (of joy), and she struck her face (in astonishment) and said: "I am an old barren woman!"

قَالُواْ كَذَٰلِكِ قَالَ رَبُّكِۖ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلۡحَكِيمُ ٱلۡعَلِيمُ
30. They said: "Thus has said your Lord (Allah); He is the All-Wise, the All-Knowing."

۞ قَالَ فَمَا خَطۡبُكُمۡ أَيُّهَا ٱلۡمُرۡسَلُونَ
31. (Abraham) said: "What is your mission, O (angelic) messengers?"

قَالُوٓاْ إِنَّآ أُرۡسِلۡنَآ إِلَىٰ قَوۡمٖ مُّجۡرِمِينَ
32. They said: "We have been sent to a wicked people (Lot’s people),

لِنُرۡسِلَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ حِجَارَةٗ مِّن طِينٖ
33. To send down upon them stones of baked clay,
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
مُّسَوَّمَةً عِندَ رَبِّكَ لِلۡمُسۡرِفِينَ
34. Marked by (Allah) your Lord for the transgressors."

فَأَخۡرَجۡنَا مَن كَانَ فِيهَا مِنَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ
35. So We brought out whoever was in it (the city) of the believers.

فَمَا وَجَدۡنَا فِيهَا غَيۡرَ بَيۡتٖ مِّنَ ٱلۡمُسۡلِمِينَ
36. But We did not find therein except a (single) house of Muslims⁴.
4. Lot and his two daughters.

وَتَرَكۡنَا فِيهَآ ءَايَةٗ لِّلَّذِينَ يَخَافُونَ ٱلۡعَذَابَ ٱلۡأَلِيمَ
37. We left therein a Sign for those who fear the painful Torment.

وَفِي مُوسَىٰٓ إِذۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَٰهُ إِلَىٰ فِرۡعَوۡنَ بِسُلۡطَٰنٖ مُّبِينٖ
38. (There is evidence of the Truth) in (the story of) Moses when We sent him to Pharaoh with clear authority.

فَتَوَلَّىٰ بِرُكۡنِهِۦ وَقَالَ سَٰحِرٌ أَوۡ مَجۡنُونٞ
39. But he (Pharaoh) turned away with his forces and said (about Moses): "He is a sorcerer, or one out of his mind."

فَأَخَذۡنَٰهُ وَجُنُودَهُۥ فَنَبَذۡنَٰهُمۡ فِي ٱلۡيَمِّ وَهُوَ مُلِيمٞ
40. We seized him (Pharaoh) and his armies, and cast them all into the sea, for he was blameworthy.

وَفِي عَادٍ إِذۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمُ ٱلرِّيحَ ٱلۡعَقِيمَ
41. (There is also evidence of the Truth) in (the story of) ‘Aad when We sent upon them the destructive wind.

مَا تَذَرُ مِن شَيۡءٍ أَتَتۡ عَلَيۡهِ إِلَّا جَعَلَتۡهُ كَٱلرَّمِيمِ
42. It did not leave anything on which it blew, but made it like disintegrated ruins.

وَفِي ثَمُودَ إِذۡ قِيلَ لَهُمۡ تَمَتَّعُواْ حَتَّىٰ حِينٖ
43. (There is also evidence of the Truth) in (the story of) Thamud when they were told: "Enjoy yourselves for a while."

فَعَتَوۡاْ عَنۡ أَمۡرِ رَبِّهِمۡ فَأَخَذَتۡهُمُ ٱلصَّٰعِقَةُ وَهُمۡ يَنظُرُونَ
44. But they rebelled against the Command of their Lord (Allah), so the thunderbolt overtook them while they were staring.

فَمَا ٱسۡتَطَٰعُواْ مِن قِيَامٖ وَمَا كَانُواْ مُنتَصِرِينَ
45. They were not able to rise up, nor could they ward it off.

وَقَوۡمَ نُوحٖ مِّن قَبۡلُۖ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ قَوۡمٗا فَٰسِقِينَ
46. (We destroyed) the people of Noah before, they were a rebellious people (against God).

وَٱلسَّمَآءَ بَنَيۡنَٰهَا بِأَيۡيْدٖ وَإِنَّا لَمُوسِعُونَ
47. We built the heaven with might, and certainly We are its expander.

وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ فَرَشۡنَٰهَا فَنِعۡمَ ٱلۡمَٰهِدُونَ
48. We have spread out the earth; how Excellent a Spreader are We.
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
وَمِن كُلِّ شَيۡءٍ خَلَقۡنَا زَوۡجَيۡنِ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَذَكَّرُونَ
49. We have created everything in pairs⁵, that you may take heed.
5. Such as male and female, heaven and earth, day and night, sweet and bitter, hot and cold, etc., as an evidence of the Oneness of God and His power.

فَفِرُّوٓاْ إِلَى ٱللَّهِۖ إِنِّي لَكُم مِّنۡهُ نَذِيرٞ مُّبِينٞ
50. So flee to Allah. I am a plain warner to you from Him.

وَلَا تَجۡعَلُواْ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَٰهًا ءَاخَرَۖ إِنِّي لَكُم مِّنۡهُ نَذِيرٞ مُّبِينٞ
51. Do not take another god besides Allah. I am a plain warner to you from Him.

كَذَٰلِكَ مَآ أَتَى ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبۡلِهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا قَالُواْ سَاحِرٌ أَوۡ مَجۡنُونٌ
52. Likewise there did not come to those before them a messenger (from God)⁶ but they said: "He is a sorcerer or one out of his mind."
6. Such as Moses and Jesus Christ.
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
أَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِهِۦۚ بَلۡ هُمۡ قَوۡمٞ طَاغُونَ
53. Have they transmitted as a legacy to one another with this? Rather, they are a transgressing people.

فَتَوَلَّ عَنۡهُمۡ فَمَآ أَنتَ بِمَلُومٖ
54. So turn away from them (and their foul way of talk), for you are not to be blamed⁷;
7. As you have fully conveyed the Message;

وَذَكِّرۡ فَإِنَّ ٱلذِّكۡرَىٰ تَنفَعُ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ
55. But keep reminding them, for the reminding benefits the believers.

وَمَا خَلَقۡتُ ٱلۡجِنَّ وَٱلۡإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعۡبُدُونِ
56. I (God) have not created the jinn and mankind except to worship Me alone⁸.
8. A companion of the Prophet reported: I was riding behind the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) on a donkey. The Prophet asked me: "Do you know what Allah's right upon His servants is, and what the right of His servants upon Him is?" I replied: "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said: "Allah's right upon His servants is that they should worship Him alone and associate no partners with Him. And the right of the servants upon Allah is that He should not punish whoever associates no partners with Him."
Arabic explanations of the Qur’an:
مَآ أُرِيدُ مِنۡهُم مِّن رِّزۡقٖ وَمَآ أُرِيدُ أَن يُطۡعِمُونِ
57. I seek no provision from them⁹, nor do I want that they should feed Me¹⁰.
9. I.e., provision for themselves or for My creatures.
10. I.e., feed themselves or My creatures.

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلرَّزَّاقُ ذُو ٱلۡقُوَّةِ ٱلۡمَتِينُ
58. Allah is the All-Provider, the Possessor of Firm Strength.

فَإِنَّ لِلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ ذَنُوبٗا مِّثۡلَ ذَنُوبِ أَصۡحَٰبِهِمۡ فَلَا يَسۡتَعۡجِلُونِ
59. Those who work iniquity (by worshiping other than Allah) shall have a portion of Torment like that of their predecessors, so let them not ask Me to hasten (it) on.

فَوَيۡلٞ لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ مِن يَوۡمِهِمُ ٱلَّذِي يُوعَدُونَ
60. Woe to those who deny (Allah and His messenger Muhammad) on the Day which they are threatened with.
