Al-Fajr

1 : 89

وَٱلۡفَجۡرِ

1. Consider the daybreak [1], info

[1]. God swears here by the Dawn of the Day.

2 : 89

وَلَيَالٍ عَشۡرٖ

2. And the (first) ten nights [2], info

[2]. Of the month of Dhul-Hijjah, or the last ten nights of Ramadhan.
the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: "There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allāh than these 'first' ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah." The people asked, "Not even jihad for the sake of Allāh?" He said, "Not even jihad for the sake of Allāh, except in the case of a man who went out to fight giving himself and his wealth up for the cause of Allāh, and came back with nothing."
Also, Allah's Messenger, the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) used to practice I`tikaf in the last ten nights of Ramadan and used to say, "Look for the Night of Qadr in the last ten nights of the month of Ramadan."

وَٱلشَّفۡعِ وَٱلۡوَتۡرِ

3. And the even and the odd [3], info

[3]. Of the days and things. The witr 'odd' prayer is recommended. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) practiced it regularly and encouraged others to perform it at night after Isha (night-time prayer) or before fajr (dawn prayer). As such, praying witr comes under semi obligatory sunnah. The Prophet (ﷺ) would perform the witr prayer and say: 'O you people (followers) of the Qur'an, perform the witr prayer, for Allāh 'God' is one and He loves the witr (the odd number).

4 : 89

وَٱلَّيۡلِ إِذَا يَسۡرِ

4. And the night when it passes [4]. info

[4]. God swore by all that to highlight that reward and retribution in the Hereafter life is an absolute truth.

5 : 89

هَلۡ فِي ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٞ لِّذِي حِجۡرٍ

5. Is (there not) in (all) that, an oath (sufficient) for those who have sense [5]. info

[5]. That All people should avoid all kinds of polytheism and sins. Allāh will certainly punish the deniers.

6 : 89

أَلَمۡ تَرَ كَيۡفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ

6. Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with (the people of) ‘Aad [6], info

[6]. When they denied His messenger.

7 : 89

إِرَمَ ذَاتِ ٱلۡعِمَادِ

7. Iram, possessors of lofty pillars, info

ٱلَّتِي لَمۡ يُخۡلَقۡ مِثۡلُهَا فِي ٱلۡبِلَٰدِ

8. The like of which were not created in the (rest of the) lands. info

9 : 89

وَثَمُودَ ٱلَّذِينَ جَابُواْ ٱلصَّخۡرَ بِٱلۡوَادِ

9. And (also with the people of) Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley (to make homes)? info

10 : 89

وَفِرۡعَوۡنَ ذِي ٱلۡأَوۡتَادِ

10. And (also) Pharaoh, of the stakes [7]? info

[7]. I.e., who possessed mighty armies and a great structures.

11 : 89

ٱلَّذِينَ طَغَوۡاْ فِي ٱلۡبِلَٰدِ

11. Who (all) transgressed in the lands, info

12 : 89

فَأَكۡثَرُواْ فِيهَا ٱلۡفَسَادَ

12. So they spread increasingly therein the corruption; info

13 : 89

فَصَبَّ عَلَيۡهِمۡ رَبُّكَ سَوۡطَ عَذَابٍ

13. So your Lord (Allāh) poured on them a scourge of torment. info

14 : 89

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِٱلۡمِرۡصَادِ

14. Indeed your Lord (Allāh) is surely Ever-Watchful [8]. info

[8]. Over human and tests him in the blessings with which He favors him.

15 : 89

فَأَمَّا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ إِذَا مَا ٱبۡتَلَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَأَكۡرَمَهُۥ وَنَعَّمَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّيٓ أَكۡرَمَنِ

15. As for man, just when his Lord (Allāh) tries him, and (thus) is generous to him and favors him, he says: "My Lord has honored me." info

16 : 89

وَأَمَّآ إِذَا مَا ٱبۡتَلَىٰهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيۡهِ رِزۡقَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّيٓ أَهَٰنَنِ

16. But when He (Allāh) tries him and straitens for him his means of sustenance, then he says: "My Lord has humiliated me [9]." info

[9]. Rather than being ungrateful when in prosperity and impatient when in adversity. Be generous in prosperity, and patient in adversity. Be worthy of the trust of your neighbor, and look upon him with a bright and smiling face. Be a treasure to the poor, an admonisher to the rich, an answerer of the cry of the needy, a preserver of the sanctity of your pledge. Be fair in your judgment, and guarded in your speech. Be unjust to no man, and show all meekness to all men. Be as a lamp unto them that walk in darkness, a joy to the sorrowful, a sea for the thirsty, a haven for the distressed, an upholder and defender of the victim of oppression. Let integrity and uprightness distinguish all your acts. Be a home for the stranger, a balm to the suffering, a tower of strength for the fugitive. Be eyes to the blind, and a guiding light unto the feet of the erring.

17 : 89

كَلَّاۖ بَل لَّا تُكۡرِمُونَ ٱلۡيَتِيمَ

17. Not at all! Rather you (O mankind) do not honor the orphan, info

وَلَا تَحَٰٓضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلۡمِسۡكِينِ

18. Nor do you urge one another to feed the destitute, info

19 : 89

وَتَأۡكُلُونَ ٱلتُّرَاثَ أَكۡلٗا لَّمّٗا

19. And you consume inheritance devouring [it] altogether rapaciously [10], info

[10]. I.e., you consume the rights of the weak of women and orphans severely without regard for their permissibility whether lawful or unlawful.

20 : 89

وَتُحِبُّونَ ٱلۡمَالَ حُبّٗا جَمّٗا

20. And you (O mankind) love wealth with immense love [11]. info

[11]. Let your way of life be free of the love of money, while you are content with what you have. For Allāh will never leave you, and will never abandon you when you trust Him with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your following of paths of peace straight.

21 : 89

كَلَّآۖ إِذَا دُكَّتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ دَكّٗا دَكّٗا

21. Nay! When the earth is pounded (into powder) pounding and pounding. info

22 : 89

وَجَآءَ رَبُّكَ وَٱلۡمَلَكُ صَفّٗا صَفّٗا

22. And your Lord (Allāh) comes (for Judgment) and the angels are arrayed in rank upon rank, info

23 : 89

وَجِاْيٓءَ يَوۡمَئِذِۭ بِجَهَنَّمَۚ يَوۡمَئِذٖ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ ٱلذِّكۡرَىٰ

23. And brought (within view), that Day, is Gehinnom 'Hell'. On that Day, man (the denier) will remember, but how will Remembrance then avail him? info

24 : 89

يَقُولُ يَٰلَيۡتَنِي قَدَّمۡتُ لِحَيَاتِي

24. He will say: "Oh, would that I had sent forth for (this) my life (of the Hereafter) [12]." info

[12]. Some good deeds based upon the belief in the Oneness of God - Islamic Monotheism.

25 : 89

فَيَوۡمَئِذٖ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُۥٓ أَحَدٞ

25. So on that Day, none will chastise (as severely) as His Chastisement, info

وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُۥٓ أَحَدٞ

26. And none will bind (as severely) as His Binding (of the evildoers). info

27 : 89

يَٰٓأَيَّتُهَا ٱلنَّفۡسُ ٱلۡمُطۡمَئِنَّةُ

27. (It will be said to the righteous): O you soul at peace. info

ٱرۡجِعِيٓ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةٗ مَّرۡضِيَّةٗ

28. Return to your Lord (Allāh), well-pleased (yourself), (and) well-pleasing (to Him); info

فَٱدۡخُلِي فِي عِبَٰدِي

29. So enter among My (good) servants, info

وَٱدۡخُلِي جَنَّتِي

30. And enter into My Paradise. info
