1. The Qur’an is made up of such letters from the Arabic alphabet. The Arabs at the time of revelation were the unmatched masters of the Arabic language and yet when challenged were totally unable to bring anything like the Qur’an. Although these disjointed Arabic letters are referring to the inimitable nature of the Qur’an and its divine source, God knows best its meaning.
7. They (the deniers) only know what is apparent of this worldly life⁶, but they are heedless of the Hereafter life.
6. The superficial realities of the world is about the social conditions created by such deniers as live carnal, sensuous, lustful lives. They know the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. The superficial realities of the world it does not mean the sphere on which we live, but an environment created by such individuals who live contrary to God's teachings. We would not want to be free of our responsibility of being in the world by being taken out of the world, for this life is a probationary state. The world is our opportunity to prove ourselves. This is a part of the great Plan of Allāh, to be confronted with the things of the world that we might overcome them and be strengthened. We build security and strength in our lives by living the Qur’an and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad. There is no cure for the ills of the world except the Qur’an that was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad. Our hope for peace, spiritual prosperity, and for an eventual inheritance in the kingdom of God is found only in and through the Qur’an and the Sunnah. Everything in the world is not evil. There are many things of virtue, many great men and women working for the finer things of life, who have high standards and live righteously. But there is a great challenge in living in the world. The concern is not where we live - but how we live. Only obedience to the laws of Allāh and the tradition of His messenger, the Prophet Muhammad, will bring real happiness and peace. This life is beautiful when is guided by the Qur'an and Sunnah, the closer we are to these two sources, the easier the life is.
8. Do they not reflect within themselves? Allāh did not create the heavens and the earth and what is between them except for a genuine purpose, and (for) an appointed term. But most people are deniers of the Meeting of their Lord 'Allāh'.
9. Have they not traveled throughout the land to see how was the end of those before them? They were stronger than them in power, and cultivated the earth and developed it more than they developed. Their messengers came to them with clear Proofs. Allāh was not unjust to them, but they were unjust to their own selves⁷.
18. To Allāh belongs all the praise in the heavens and the earth, glorify Him in the evening11 and the noon time12.
11. I.e., offer ‘Asr prayer.
12. I.e., offer Zuhr prayer.
In a statement of the prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him, he said: "If there was a river at the door of anyone of you and he took a bath in it five times a day would you notice any dirt on him?" They said, "Not a trace of dirt would be left." The Prophet said: "That is the example of the five obligatory prayers with which Allāh blots out (annuls) evil deeds."
19. He brings forth the living from the dead, and brings forth the dead from the living, and revives the earth after its death. Thus, shall you be resurrected.
21. Among His signs is that He created spouses for you from yourselves that you may find comfort in them, and He placed between you affection and mercy. There are certainly Signs in this for a people who reflect (and realize the Truth).
22. Among His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth and the differences of your languages and colors. In this there are certainly signs for those who have knowledge.
24. Among His signs is that He shows you lightning for fear and for hope, and sends down water from the sky which revives the earth after its death. There are certainly signs in this for a people who understand.
25. And among His signs is that the sky and the earth stand firm by His command. Then when He calls you with a (single) call from the earth, at once you come forth.
27. It is He 'Allāh' Who begins creation, then will resurrect it - which is easier for Him. To Him belongs the Most Exalted Attributes in the heavens and the earth. And He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.
28. He sets forth to you an example from yourselves: Have you among your slaves any partners who equally share with you whatever wealth We have provided you; and you would fear them as you fear of one another (within a partnership)13. Thus does Allah make the Verses clear for a people who understand.
13. So how can you make some of God’s slaves partners to Him?
29. But those that work iniquity merely follow their lowly desires without any (Divine) Knowledge. Who will guide him whom Allāh has left astray? For such there will be no helpers.
30. So direct your face towards (Islam) the upright religion, turning away from all that is false - the natural disposition14 which Allāh has placed in (all) people. No change should there be of Allah’s creation. This is the right religion (Islam), but most people do not know.
14. The natural inborn inclination of man to worship his Creator alone, prior to the corruption of his nature by external influences.
32. Of those who split up their religion and became (dissenting) sects15, every sect rejoicing in what they have with them16.
15. Denominations: Catholicism, Protestantism, Orthodoxy, Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, etc. Where do you turn for Truth? What is true is always true. When every person you meet holds a different standard of belief, where do you turn? We need a universal standard of truth around which people of all ages, races, and cultures can unite. And by the grace of God, we have one. That is God’s true religion, Islam.
16. Of beliefs, opinions, ancestral customs, etc., disregarding the true religion of God, Islam.
33. When harm afflicts people, they call out to their Lord 'Allāh', turning to Him (in repentance). Then when He lets them taste Mercy from Him, at once a part of them associate (others in worship) with their Lord 'Allāh',
34.So as to deny and show their ingratitude for what We have given them. Enjoy yourselves (for a while), for you shall soon come to know (the result of this behavior).
36. When We let people taste of Mercy, they rejoice therein. But when hardship befalls them for what their hands have done, immediately they are in despair.
37. Do they not see that Allāh extends the provision for whom He wills and straitens (it for whom He wills)? There are certainly signs in this for a people who believe.
38. So give the relatives, the destitute, and the stranded travelers (strangers, and foreigners) their share (of charity). This is best for those who seek the Face of Allāh. And it is these who are the successful.
39. Whatever you lend with interest in order to gain more at the expanse of people’s money, Allāh will not bless it. But whatever you give as charity, seeking the Face of Allāh - it is these (people) that will get a recompense, multiplied.
40. It is Allāh Who created you, then provided food for you, then will cause you to die, then brings you back to life (for Judgment). Can any of your idols do such things? Glory be to Him, and exalted be He (Allāh) above what they associate (with Him in worship).
41. Corruption has appeared throughout the land and sea for what the hands of people have earned (of sins), that He may let them taste a part of that which they have done, so that they may return (to righteousness).

47. We sent before you 'Muhammad' messengers to their people, so they came to them with clear Proofs. Then, We exacted retribution from the wicked people, for it is incumbent on Us to help the believers.
48. It is Allāh Who sends forth the winds to raise a cloud, then He spreads it forth in the sky as He wills, and He breaks it up so that you see the rain coming forth from inside it. When He causes rain to fall upon whom He wills of His slaves (of mankind and jinn), immediately they are joyful.
50. See then at the effects of Allah’s mercy, how He revives the earth after its death. Indeed, that He will certainly give life to the dead. For He has full Power over all things.
51. But if We send a wind and they see (their crops) turn yellow, they would become thereafter ungrateful 'to our previous favours and deny the Truth'.
53. Nor can you guide the blind 'of heart' out of their error. You cannot make anyone to hear 'the Truth' except those who believe in Our verses, and thus submit themselves to Allāh.
