Al-Fat'h

1. We have granted to you, 'Muhammad', a manifest victory¹.
1. I.e., the Treaty of Hudaybiyah
2. So that Allāh may forgive you for your past and future sin (i.e., errors if any)², complete His favor upon you, and keep you on a straight Path (i.e., Islam).
2. I.e., in worldly misjudgements, not in the conveyance of God's Message.
3. And grant you a mighty triumph.
4. It is He 'Allāh' Who sent down tranquility into the hearts of the believers that they may increase in faith along with their faith. To Allāh belong the hosts of the heavens and the earth. For Allāh is ever All-Knowing, All-Wise.
5. That He may admit the believing men and women to Gardens under which rivers flow to abide therein forever and expiate from them their sins. This is, in the Sight of Allāh, a supreme achievement.
6. (And that) He may chastise the hypocrites men and women, and the polytheists men and women, the entertainers of evil thoughts about Allāh. On them is the evil turn, Allah’s Anger is upon them, He has cursed them, and prepared Gehinnom (Hell) for them. What a terrible destination.
7. To Allāh belongs the hosts of the heavens and the earth. Allāh is All-Mighty, All-Wise.
8. We have sent you, (Muhammad)³, being a witness and a bearer of good news and a warner,
3. This Verse appears also in the Torah Isaiah 42:1 to 42:11, thus: "Verily We have sent you (Muhammad) as a witness, as a bringer of glad tidings and as a warner, and as a protector for the illiterates (i.e., the unlettered). You are my slave and My messenger, and I have named you Al-Mutawakkil (one who depends upon God). You are neither hard-hearted nor of fierce character, nor one who shouts in the markets. You do not return evil for evil, but excuse and forgive. Allāh (God) will not take you unto Him till He guides through you a crocked (curved) nation on the right path by causing them to say: "None has the right to be worshipped but Allāh." With such a statement He will cause to open blind eyes, deaf ears and hardened hearts."
9. That you may have Faith in Allāh and His messenger 'Muhammad', aid and honor him; and declare 'Allah’s' Glory morning and evening⁴.
4. To glorify Allāh in everything we do. To glorify Allāh is not to bestow glory on Allāh or add to His glory, but to recognize and acknowledge His glory. That is to praise Him with your lips, to obey His Word, to pray in Allah’s name only, to perform good deeds, and remain sexual pure by fleeing sexual immorality, glorifying Allāh with your body, to seek the good of others doing everything for the glory of Allāh, to give generously, giving to the needy, to live honorably, letting your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to Allāh in heaven, to be faithful when persecuted, and to face death with faith.
10. Those who pledge obedience to you 'Muhammad', they are actually pledging obedience to Allāh. The Hand of Allāh is above their hands. Whoever disregards (his pledge), he do so only to the harm of his own self. And whoever fulfills what he has promised Allāh - He will grant him a Great Reward.
11. Those of the dwelleres of the desert (around Medina) who lagged behind (in taking part in the battle) will say to you: "Our wealth and our families kept us busy, so ask forgiveness for us." They say with their tongues what is not in their hearts. Say: "Who will help you against Allāh If He intends for you harm or if He intends for you good. In fact, Allāh is Well Aware of whatever you do."
12. But you thought that the messenger 'Muhammad' and the believers would never ever return to their families, and that was made fair seeming in your hearts and you thought an evil thought⁵, and you were a people doomed to perish.
5. That Allāh will not support His messenger Muhammad.
13. Whoever does not believe in Allāh and His messenger 'Muhammad', We have prepared Hell for the deniers 'of the Truth, the opposers of Peace'.
14. To Allāh belongs the Kingdom of the heavens and the earth. He forgives or chastises whom He wills. For Allāh is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
15. Those who lagged behind (in taking part in the battle) will say when you set forth on a war that promises spoils: "Let us follow you." They want to change the Words of Allāh. Say: "Never will you follow us, this is what Allāh has decreed." Then they will say: "Rather, you envy us." Rather they do not understand except a little⁶.
6. As their hearts were made blind as a result of their sins.
16. Say to the dwellers of the desert (around Medina) who lagged behind: "You shall soon be called (to fight) against a people given to great warfare whom you will fight against them or who will surrender. If you obey (the Messenger), Allāh will grant you a good Reward. But if you turn back as you turned back before - He will make you suffer a painful Torment."
17. It is not an offense for the blind, the lame, or the sick not to take part in the battle. Whoever obeys Allāh and His messenger 'Muhammad', He will admit him into Gardens under which rivers flow. But whoever turns back - He will chastise him with a painful chastisement.
18. Allāh is well pleased with the believers for their pledging obedience to you 'Muhammad' under the tree. He knew whatever was in their hearts (of sincerity, and truthfulness), so He sent down tranquility on them, and rewarded them with a near victory -
19. And many spoils of war that they will gain. For Allāh is All-Mighty, All-Wise.
20. Allāh promised you abundant spoils that you will yet gain. He hastened on this one (the spoils of Khaybar) for you, and held back the hands of people (Jews) from you (when they intended to hurt you), so that it (these victories) may be a Sign for the believers and guide you to a straight Path.
21. (He promises) other (victories) which you have not yet been able to achieve, Allāh has already encompassed them. For Allāh is Ever Able to do all things.
22. If those who deny (the Truth) fight with you, they would certainly turn (their) backs, then they would not find any protector or helper.
23. Such has been the Way of Allāh with those that have passed away before. Never will you find in the Way of Allāh any change.
24. It is He 'Allāh' Who held back their hands from you and your hands from them in the valley of (Hudaibiyah, near) Makkah after He had given you victory over them⁷. Allāh is Ever Seeing of what you do.
7. Those who attacked you on your way to Makkah.
25. It is they who denied (the Truth) and turned you away from the Sacred Mosque and detained the sacrificial animals from reaching its destined place. Were it not for the believing men and women whom you did not know, that you might trample (kill) them and there would befall you because of them dishonor without (your) knowledge (We would have let you march to Makkah). So that Allāh may cause to enter into His Mercy whomsoever He wills. If they (the believers and deniers) had been widely separated one from another, We would have chastised those who denied from among them with a painful Chastisement.
26. When those who denied (the Truth) harbored in their hearts (feelings of) disdain, the stubborn disdain of (the days of) ignorance, but Allāh sent down His tranquility on His messenger and on the believers, binding them to the principal of piety, and they are entitled and worthy of it. For Allāh has full Knowledge of all things.
27. Allāh has made the vision (i.e., dream) of His messenger (Muhammad) come true: You will certainly enter the Sacred Mosque (at Makkah), if Allāh wills, secure, (some) having their heads shaved and (others) having their hair cut short, without any fear. He knew what you did not know, so He brought before that a near victory (i.e., the conquest of Khaybar).
28. It is He 'Allāh" Who sent His messenger 'Muhammad' with the guidance and the true Religion 'of Islam' that He may make it prevail over every 'false or altered' religion. Allāh is Enough as a Witness.
29. Muhammad is the messenger of God⁸, and those with him are firm against the deniers 'of the Truth' yet Compassionate with one another9. You see them bowing and prostrating (in prayer), seeking Allah’s favors and pleasure. Their marks are on their faces from the trace of prostration. That is their description in the Torah10, and their description in the Evangel11, is as a plant which sends forth its offshoots, then strengthens it, so it becomes stout, and stands firmly on its stem, delighting the sowers - so that He may enrage by them the deniers. Allāh has promised those of them who believe and do righteous deeds forgiveness and a great reward.
8. There is so much to learn from the manners and etiquette of the best and last of the Messengers of God to mankind, Muhammad ﷺ. He was extremely humble and kind. He treated all believers equally, respected all and expressed his love for them. He asked the well-being of those who were absent and visited the sick. His (Prophet’s) speech was sweet, comprehensive, and he had the most beautiful way with words. His words captured the hearts and souls. Even his enemies had to admit to this quality.
9. Muhammad, God's messenger ﷺ said, "He who is not merciful to people, Allāh will not be merciful to him". Happy are those who are merciful to others; Allāh will be merciful to them. This hadith states the importance of showing mercy and kindness towards others and forgiving them. Muhammad, God's Messenger (PBUH) also said `Allah, the Exalted, said: My love is due to those who love one another for My sake, meet one another for My sake, visit one another for My sake and spend in charity for My sake".
10. Deuteronomy 33:13, Numbers 16:22
11. Mark 4:26,29 Matthew 13:39
