تَبَّتۡ يَدَآ أَبِي لَهَبٖ وَتَبَّ

1. Perished be the two hands of Abu Lahab [1], and may he be perished. info

[1]. The Prophet's uncle, one of his staunchest opponents, along with every other enemy to Islam.

مَآ أَغۡنَىٰ عَنۡهُ مَالُهُۥ وَمَا كَسَبَ

2. His wealth will not avail him or that which he gained. info

3 : 111

سَيَصۡلَىٰ نَارٗا ذَاتَ لَهَبٖ

3. He will (enter to) burn in a Fire of [blazing] flame [2]. info

[2]. This surah was one of the earliest surahs revealed in Makkah, yet Abu Lahab persisted in disbelief. For him to disprove the Qur’an, all he had to do was to accept Islam, for the Qur’an condemned him to Hell.

وَٱمۡرَأَتُهُۥ حَمَّالَةَ ٱلۡحَطَبِ

4. And his spouse too, the 'constant' carrier of firewood [3], info

[3]. Evil tales, slanders, and she used also to put thorns on the way of the Prophet.

فِي جِيدِهَا حَبۡلٞ مِّن مَّسَدِۭ

5. Around her neck is a rope of palm-fibre [4]. info

[4]. i.e. the chain which is in the Fire of Hell.
