1. The Qur’an is made up of such letter from the Arabic alphabet. The Arabs at the time of revelation were the unmatched masters of the Arabic language and yet when challenged were totally unable to bring anything like the Qur’an. Although these disjointed Arabic letters are referring to the inimitable nature of the Qur’an and its divine source, God knows best its meaning.
2. We have indeed, in spite of what they say, sent you to warn people that they will be raised from the dead and resurrected for Judgment.
2. Rather, It seems odd 'to the pagans' that there has come to them a warner 'the Prophet Muhammad' from among themselves, so the deniers say: "This is a strange thing."
9. We have sent down blessed water 'rain', from the sky4, then We cause to grow thereby gardens and the grain that is reaped,
4. Muhammad, the Messenger of God (may peace and blessings be upon him) led morning prayer at Hudaibiyah. There were some marks of the rainfall during the night. At the conclusion of prayer he turned towards people and said: "Do you know what Allāh, your Lord, has said?" They replied: "Allāh and His Messenger know best". Upon this he (the prophet) said: He (Allāh) said: "Some of My bondsmen entered the morning as My believers and some as unbelievers". He who said: "We have had a rainfall due to the blessing and mercy of Allāh, he is My believer and a disbeliever of stars, and who said: We have had a rainfall due to the rising of such and such (star) disbelieved in Me and affirmed his faith in the stars." Allāh causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
This conveys to us the breadth of Allah’s grace. He doesn’t simply pour His grace on those who like Him, but even on those who hate Him. All of us enjoy the benefits of Allah’s grace. We have air to breathe. He gave us everything we need in our life. But we must all appear before the judgment seat of Allāh, so that each of us may receive what is due to us for the things done while in the world, whether good or bad. Glory and honour be to Allāh.
10. And tall palm-trees with clusters of dates closely set one above another5,
5 .The righteous will flourish like a palm tree. They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green, proclaiming, “Allāh is upright; there is no evil from Him.” He is the Giver of all good gifts.
Once God's messenger asked his companions, "Amongst the trees, there is a tree, the leaves of which do not fall and is like a Muslim. Tell me the name of that tree." Everybody started thinking about the trees of the desert areas. A companion said: I thought of the date-palm but felt shy to answer. The others then asked, "What is that tree, O God's messenger ?" He replied, "It is the date-palm tree."
14. The dwellers of the Forest 'of Midian' and the people of Tubba7; all rejected the messengers (of God). Thus, they became subject to My threat and torment.
7. A king who ruled in Yemen. He had submitted to Allāh and had summoned his people to the same submission, but they rejected him.
15. Were We then fatigued with the first creation8? Yet they are in doubt with regard to a new creation 'Resurrection'.
8. I.e., We were not wearied by the creation of the heavens and the earth in order to need rest, and likewise We will not be wearied by restoring it. Expressions like tired, weak, fatigue or need of rest are among the traits of human beings but not of Allāh Almighty.
