قَالَ فَإِنَّهَا مُحَرَّمَةٌ عَلَيۡهِمۡۛ أَرۡبَعِينَ سَنَةٗۛ يَتِيهُونَ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ فَلَا تَأۡسَ عَلَى ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلۡفَٰسِقِينَ
26. [Allāh] said: "So it will be surely forbidden to them for forty years [30], they will wander about in the land. So do not grieve over the rebellious people."
[30]. I.e., the sacred land - the region between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean, including Jerusalem.
Allāh, the Most High, decreed that they would wander in the land for forty years as a punishment for their sins.
