Al-Mā’idah

1 : 5

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ أَوۡفُواْ بِٱلۡعُقُودِۚ أُحِلَّتۡ لَكُم بَهِيمَةُ ٱلۡأَنۡعَٰمِ إِلَّا مَا يُتۡلَىٰ عَلَيۡكُمۡ غَيۡرَ مُحِلِّي ٱلصَّيۡدِ وَأَنتُمۡ حُرُمٌۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَحۡكُمُ مَا يُرِيدُ

1. O believers, fulfil [and be true to] your contracts [and commitments] ^[1]. The grazing livestock have been made lawful for you [to eat] except for what is recited to you [in this Qur’an] while hunting remains unlawful when you are in the state of ihrām [for pilgrimage]. Indeed, Allāh decrees whatever He wills.

[1]. This includes not only the covenants one makes with Allāh but also the agreements, promises, and obligations one undertakes with fellow human beings—whether they are pledges, vows, oaths, or any solemn commitment of the heart and word. These bonds carry both a spiritual weight, as they are accountable before Allāh, and a moral responsibility, as they shape trust, integrity, and justice in human relationships.

2 : 5

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ لَا تُحِلُّواْ شَعَٰٓئِرَ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا ٱلشَّهۡرَ ٱلۡحَرَامَ وَلَا ٱلۡهَدۡيَ وَلَا ٱلۡقَلَٰٓئِدَ وَلَآ ءَآمِّينَ ٱلۡبَيۡتَ ٱلۡحَرَامَ يَبۡتَغُونَ فَضۡلٗا مِّن رَّبِّهِمۡ وَرِضۡوَٰنٗاۚ وَإِذَا حَلَلۡتُمۡ فَٱصۡطَادُواْۚ وَلَا يَجۡرِمَنَّكُمۡ شَنَـَٔانُ قَوۡمٍ أَن صَدُّوكُمۡ عَنِ ٱلۡمَسۡجِدِ ٱلۡحَرَامِ أَن تَعۡتَدُواْۘ وَتَعَاوَنُواْ عَلَى ٱلۡبِرِّ وَٱلتَّقۡوَىٰۖ وَلَا تَعَاوَنُواْ عَلَى ٱلۡإِثۡمِ وَٱلۡعُدۡوَٰنِۚ وَٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ شَدِيدُ ٱلۡعِقَابِ

2. O believers, do not violate the symbols and rites of Allāh, nor the sacred months ^[2], nor the sacrificial animals, nor those with garlands set apart for security, nor the pilgrims traveling to the Sacred House, seeking the bounty from their Lord and [His] pleasure. But when you are free from the obligations of pilgrimage, you may hunt. And let not the hatred of a people—who once barred you from the Sacred Mosque—lead you to transgress.
Help one another in righteousness and piety, and do not help one another in sin and aggression. And fear Allāh; indeed, Allāh is Severe in punishment.

[2]. The four sacrosanct months are Dhul-Qi‘dah, Dhul-Hijjah, Muḥarram, and Rajab.
