Al-Hadīd

1. All that is in the heavens and the earth glorify Allāh. He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.
2. To Him belongs the Kingdom of the heavens and the earth. He gives life and causes death. He has full power over all things.
3. He is the First, the Last, the Ascendant¹, and the Intimate². He is the Knower of all things.
1. Evident through His creation and revelation. Nothing being above Him.
2. Concealed from man's physical senses. Nothing being nearer than Him by way of His knowledge and power.
4. It is He 'Allāh' Who created the heavens and the earth in six Days, then rose over the Throne. He knows whatever enters into the earth, what comes out of it, what descends down from the heaven, and what ascends up to it. He is with you wherever you may be³. Allāh Ever Sees what you do.
3. by His Knowledge and Power
5. To Him belongs the Kingdom of the heavens and the earth. To Allāh are 'all' matters returned 'for Decision'.
6. He causes the night to enter in upon the day, and the day into the night. He has full Knowledge of whatever is in the chests⁴.
4. He alone is God, besides there is no god. Blessed are they that do His Commands.
7. Believe in Allāh and His messenger 'Muhammad', and spend for His cause out of what is entrusted to you. Those who believe and spend for the Cause of Allāh shall have a great Reward (of Paradise).
8. Why do you not believe in Allāh while the messenger invites you to believe in 'Allāh' your Lord, and indeed He has taken your solemn covenant - if you are 'truly' believers.
9. It is He 'Allāh' who sends down clear Verses upon His servant (Muhammad), that he may bring you forth from utter darknesses into light. Indeed, Allāh is Most Kind, Most Merciful to you.
10. Why do you not spend for the Cause of Allāh when to Allāh belongs the heritage of the heavens and the earth? Those of you who spent for the Cause of Allāh and fought before the conquest (of Makkah) are not equal (with those among you who did so later). Those (who spent and fought before the victory) are higher in rank than those who spent and fought (for Allah’s Cause) after the victory. Yet Allāh has promised good to all. (Know that) Allāh is All-Aware of what you do.
11. Who is he that will lend to Allāh a goodly loan⁵, so He will double it for him, and he will have an excellent Reward.
5. Kindness to the poor is a loan to Allāh, and He will give a reward to the lender.
12. On the Day you will see the believing men and women, their light shining in front of them and on their right. (they will be told),  "Good news for you today, Gardens under which rivers flow, to abide therein forever." That is the great achievement.
13. On the Day when the hypocrites, men and women, will say to those who believed: "Wait for us, so that we may have some of your light." It will be said (to them): "Go back and seek a light⁶." Then a barrier will be put up between them (and the believers) with a door; inside it there will be mercy, but outside of it there will be torment.
6. To where light was acquired, i.e., in the worldly life.
14. They (the hypocrites) will call out to the believers, "Were we not with you?" They will say: "Yes, But you caused yourselves to fall into temptation, wished (misfortune) to us, doubted, and were deceived by false hopes, till the Command of Allāh came, while the chief-deceiver (Satan) deceived you⁷ about Allāh.
7. Be sober and practice complete abstinence from drugs, alcohol, and other addictive intoxicating substances. Be careful, because your enemy the devil, walks about, seeking whom he may deceive and mislead him and be his companion in the blazing fire.
15. So, on this Day no ransom will be accepted from you (hypocrites), nor from those who denied (the Truth). Your abode is the Hellfire - it is most worthy of you, and terrible is the destination.
16. Is it not time for the hearts of the believers to become humbled by the Remembrance of Allāh, and what has been sent down of the Qur’an? So that they will not be like those who were given the Scripture before⁸, whose hearts have become hard (like stone) through the long years9. Many of them are sinful.
8. the Jews and Christians.
9. Whoever continues in his transgressions and sins will not succeed and prosper, but he who confesses to Allāh and forsakes them will obtain mercy. Blessed is the one who fears Allāh always, but whoever hardens his heart will fall into calamity.
17. Know that Allāh revives the earth after its death. We have made the Signs clear to you, that you may understand.
18. The charitable men and women who lend to Allah a goodly loan10, it will be doubled for them, and they will have a noble Reward (of Paradise).
10. He who is gracious to a poor man lends to Allāh, and Allāh will repay him for his bountiful deed.
19. 'As for' those who believe in Allāh and His messengers are the truthful ones and are witness (to the deeds of others) before their Lord 'Allāh'. They will have their reward and their light. But 'as for' those who deny 'the Truth' and reject Our Verses, they are the people of the Hell.
20. Know that the worldly life is only a play, amusement, adornment, mutual boasting among yourselves, and rivalry in respect of wealth and children. It is like the rain causing vegetation to grow which pleases the tillers, then it dries up so that you will see it become yellow, then it becomes crushed bits of straw. But in the Hereafter there is a severe torment (for the deniers) and forgiveness from Allāh and (His) Good Pleasure (for the believers). The life of this world is no more than a fleeting enjoyment¹⁰.
10. Allāh is not happy with our attention focused on the world. Rather, He encourages that we do not conform to the pattern of this world. Then only you will be able to follow what Allah’s will is - His good, pleasing, and perfect will. We must choose to turn our affections away from the world and toward Allāh only, asking Him to help us love Him more. Allāh out of His Bounty sent us the best example to follow, his last and final messenger, the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: 'Be in this world as if you were a stranger or a traveler."
Therefore if you survive till the evening, do not expect to be alive in the morning, and if you survive till the morning, do not expect to be alive in the evening, and take from your health for your sickness, and take from your life for your death.
Muhammad, God's messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, once laid down upon a reed mat and it left marks on his side. When he woke up, one of his companions started wiping his side, and he said, “O Messenger of God, why do you not let us spread something on top of this mat for you?” The Prophet Muhammad said, “What is the world to me? What am I to the world? Verily, the parable of myself and this world is that of a rider who seeks shade under a tree, then he moves on and leaves it behind.”
21. Compete with one another to forgiveness from 'Allāh' your Lord and a Paradise the vastness of which is as the vastness of the heavens and the earth - prepared for those who believe in Allāh and His messengers. This is the Bounty of Allāh, He gives it to whom He wills - for Allāh is the Lord of great bounty11.
11. Run your best in the race of faith, and win eternal life for yourself; for it was to this life that Allāh called you when you firmly professed your testimony of faith, that is the shahadah – declaration of faith 'There is no God but Allāh, Muhammad is the messenger of God. ' as we repeat this testimony first thing on waking and last thing before sleeping. They are the first words whispered into the ears of a new-born baby, and if possible, the last words uttered to the dying. Testimony of faith, is the first pillar of Islam. Muslims pray five times a day – at dawn, noon, mid-afternoon, sunset and evening. This testimony is repeated at each call to prayer and closes each prayer, as well. This expresses a Muslim's complete acceptance of and total commitment to Islam and in the race of faith.
22. No calamity befalls in the earth nor in your own selves, but it is in a record before We bring it into existence. This is too easy for Allāh.
23. So that you may not grieve over what you have lost, nor be exultant for what Allāh has given you. Allāh does not like the arrogant boastful ones -
24. Those who are niggardly and enjoin on people niggardlines. Whoever turns away (from the guidance), should know that Allāh is He (alone) Who is the Rich (free of all needs), the Praiseworthy.
25. We sent Our messengers with clear proofs, and sent down with them the Scripture and the Balance so that the people would maitain justice. We have sent down iron, wherein is mighty power and many benefits (and uses) for the people - so that Allāh may make evident who it is who will help (His cause) and His messengers without seeing the unseen. Indeed, Allāh is All-Strong, All-Mighty.
26. We sent Noah and Abraham and placed among their offspring Prophethood and the Scripture. Some among them are (rightly) guided, but many of them are sinful.
27. Then We sent Our other messengers to follow their traditions. We sent after them, Jesus, son of Mary, and We gave him the Evangel. We put in the hearts of those who (truly) followed him affection and mercy. As for the monasticism they innovated for themselves - We did not prescribe it for them, but (they sought it) only to seek Allah’s Pleasure, but they did not observe it with its proper observance. So We gave those of them who believed their reward, but many of them are sinful.
28. O you who believe¹¹, have fear of God and believe in His messenger (Muhammad), Allāh will give you a double share of His mercy, and a light (of knowledge and guidance) by which you will walk, and forgive you. For Allāh is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
11. In the earlier Scriptures i.e., the Jews and Christians.
29. (This is) so that the followers of the 'past' Scripture 'the Jews and Christians' may know that they don't have power over anything of the Bounty of Allāh¹². And that all Bounty is in the Hand of Allāh 'God'13. He gives it to whom He wills. For Allāh is the Possessor of Great Bounty.
12. In terms of being able to give it to whomsoever they wish, and to prevent it to whomsoever they wish.
13. The correct approach regarding the attributes of Allāh is to affirm its meaning in a real sense, without likening Him to His creation, as Allāh said of Himself in the Qur’an: “There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer” [ash-Shoora 42:11]. So we affirm all of the meanings that are mentioned in the Qur'an and the Sunnah according to their apparent meaning, and we reject any likening of Him to His creation. Hence we say: He, may He be glorified and exalted, hears all sounds, but not through any physical faculty comparable to those of the sons of Adam. Similarly, He sees all people with vision that is not like the vision of the sons of Adam, which is a physical faculty of theirs. He has two hands, both a right hand, and He has fingers, but not in a physical sense like those of the sons of Adam; rather His two hands are outstretched, bestowing blessings upon creation, not withholding good. And He has a face, but it is not like the physical faces of the sons of Adam that are made of flesh and blood. We say that He smiles upon whomever He will of His creation, but we do not say that this is showing teeth (like a human smile); and He descends every night to the lowest heaven. The divine attributes mentioned in the Qur'an and Sunnah are to be affirmed without discussing how or likening Him to His creation, and without denying any of His attributes or interpreting them in a way different from the apparent meaning. We do not differentiate between any of the divine attributes, no matter what category they come under. Every divine attribute that is mentioned in the Qur'an and the authentic Sunnah must be affirmed.
