1. Alif Laam Ra¹. (This is) a Book which We have revealed to you 'Muhammad' that you may bring forth the people from the utter darknesses into the light², by their Lord’s Permission, to the Path of the All-Mighty, the Praiseworthy.
1. See footnote to Qur’an chapter2: Verse1.
2. If we claim to have faith in Allāh and His last and final messenger Muhammad and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, have fellowship with one another, love one another as believers of Allāh, help one another, keep to Allah’s Commandments and shun evil, Allāh (God) will purify us from all sin. Mohammad, the messenger of God (ﷺ) said: "Purification is half of the faith, saying al-Hamdu Lillāh (all praise and gratitude is for Allāh alone) fills the scale, Subhanallāh (Glory be to Allāh) and Al-Hamdu Lillāh fill up what is between the heavens and the earth. The prayer is a light, giving charity is proof of one's faith, patience and endurance is a brightness. The Qur'an is a proof on your behalf or against you. All men go out early in the morning and sell themselves, thereby setting themselves free from Hell by following righteousness and giving charity or destroying themselves by committing idolatry and sins which will lead to Hell."
3. Those who prefer this worldly life over the Hereafter life and turn away (people) from Allah's way (of Islam), and seek to make it seem crooked. These are far astray.
4. We have not sent a messenger except in the language of his people to clarify (the message) for them. Then Allāh leaves (justly) astray whom He wills, and He guides (out of His Favor) whom He wills - for He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.
5. Indeed, We sent Moses with Our Signs, saying: "Bring forth your people from utter darknesses into light³, and remind them of the Days of Allāh." In this there are certainly signs for every patient, grateful one.
3. Light has always been a symbol of goodness, knowledge, wisdom, grace, hope, and Allah's Revelation. By contrast, darkness has been associated with evil, sin, and despair.
6. (Consider) when Moses said to his people: "Remember Allah’s Favor upon you, when He delivered you from Pharaoh’s people who subjected you to dreadful torment - slaughtering your sons and sparing your women. And in that was a severe trial from your Lord."
7. (Mention) also when your Lord (Allāh) proclaimed: "If you give thanks4, I will certainly give you more (favors), but if you are ungrateful, then My chastisement is certainly severe."
4. Thanksgiving to God, its reality in servitude is the manifestation of the effect of God’s grace on the tongue of His servant: by praising Him and acknowledgment, and on his heart: by presence and love, and on his limbs: by submissiveness and obedience. Gratitude is based on five rules: the person’s submission to God, his love for Him, his acknowledgment of His blessings, his praise of it, and not using God's grace for anything He hates like committing sins. These five are the basis of gratitude and its foundation upon it. If one of them is not present, one of the principles of gratitude and thanksgiving is broken.
8. Moses said: "If you disbelieve (in the Truth of Islam), you and those on earth all together, then indeed Allāh is Rich (free of all needs), Praiseworthy.
9. Have there not come to you the news of those before you, the people of Noah, ‘Aad, Thamud, and those after them? None knows them (now) but Allāh. Their messengers came to them with clear proofs, but they turned back their hands into their mouths and said: "Indeed, We disbelieve in what you have been sent with, and surely we are so doubtful as to that to which you call us to, suspicious."
10. Their messengers said: "Is there any doubt about Allāh, Originator of the heavens and the earth? He calls you so that He may forgive you of your sins and give you respite till an appointed term." They said: "You are no more than humans like us. You want to turn us away from what our fathers used to worship. Bring us then some clear authority (of what you say)."
11. Their messengers said to them: "We are no more than humans like you, but Allāh bestows His favor on whomsoever He wills of His servants. And not is for us that we bring you an authority except by Allah’s Permission. On Allāh 'alone' should the believers rely."
12. And what have we that we should not rely on Allāh when He has indeed guided us in our ways (of peace)? And We will certainly indure patiently whatever harm you may cause us. On Allāh alone let the reliant rely5
5. By faith we place our confidence and assurance in Allāh only. It makes us pray more and seek Allah’s direction and guidance. We can also rely on knowing what has happened in the past as others have walked by faith.
13. Those who disbelieved 'in the Truth' said to their messengers: "We will expel you out from our land, or else you shall come back to our faith 'and way of life'6." So their Lord revealed to them: "We shall certainly destroy the unjust.
6. Satan is the source of persecution, not Allāh. And he will cause believers to be tossed into jail, expelled and, possibly, killed. However, believers need not be feared about death because it will only bring them the crown of life. Satan might hurt their natural bodies; however, he cannot cause them spiritual damage. Despite the intensity of the persecution, it will be brief. Allāh retains complete control, and there is a clear beginning and end.
Therefore don’t be afraid of those who threaten you. For the time is coming when everything that is covered will be revealed, and all that is secret will be made known to all. Don't be afraid of those who want to kill you because of the Truth you preach; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only Allāh, who can destroy both soul and body in hell. And rest assured that the good outcome is for the righteous who endures the persecution. If we are being persecuted for righteousness sake, and we take it patiently, then we get high marks from Allāh —because that is exactly what He wants us to do. That is righteousness. What the enemies of God can do to us? Our paradise and garden are in our hearts wherever we go. They are with us and never leave us. If we are imprisoned, it is seclusion for worship to God. If we are killed, it is martyrdom. If they expel us from our land, it is exploring the world.
14. And We will certainly let you dwell in the land after them. This is for him who fears standing in My Presence (for Account and recompense) and who fears My Threat."
17. He sips it and can hardly find it palatable, and death will approach him from every place, yet he will not die. And ahead of him, there will be a hard torment.
18. The example of those who disbelieve in their Lord (Allāh), their deeds are like ashes blows furiously on it the wind on a stormy day. they are unable (to keep) from what they earned on (single) thing. That is the far straying (from the right Path).
19. Have you not consider that Allāh has created the heavens and the earth with truth (and a genuine purpose)? If He wills, He can do away with you and bring about a new creation,
21. And they will all come out'for Judgment' before Allāh, then the weak will say to those who were arrogant: "Indeed, We were your followers, so can you avail us anything against the torment of Allāh?" They will say: "If Allāh had guided us, we too would have guided you; it is all the same for us whether we show intolerance or are patient: there is for us no place of escape."
22. Satan will say (to his followers) when the judgment has been decided: "indeed, Allāh has promised you a true Promise, and I promised you, then I failed you. I had no authority over you, except that I called you, so you responded to me, so do not blame me but blame yourselves. I am not going to succour you nor are you going to succour me. Indeed, I disbelieved in your associating me 'with Allah in worship' before. Indeed, the workers of iniquity will have a painful torment.
23. And admission was given to those who believed and did righteous deeds to Gardens, under which rivers flow to abide therein forever by their Lord’s Permission. Their greeting therein is Salaam "Peace".
24. Have you not considered how Allāh sets as example a good Word8 (being) like a good tree9, whose root is firm, and its branches 'high' in the sky,
8. Allah’s Word 'the Qur’an' is our source of gladness in the face of anxiety. Allāh has given his good Word to us. So live in God's Word. Meditate on his Word day and night, on his promises, on truths about who He is, on how He is sovereign and in control. A bad word weighs a person down, but a good and encouraging word cheers a person up and makes him/her glad. This verse speaks about the healing or hurting power of words and the importance of carefully choosing and applying our words. The good word has a profound impact on people's hearts. With it you get the satisfaction and forgiveness of God Almighty. Hearts are formed by it
And souls are cleansed.
It raises its owner in the sight of God Almighty and his creation.
God Almighty said: “And speak good to people.” Quran chapter 2: verse 83
He also said, "They were guided to goodly words and to the Path of 'Allāh' the Praiseworthy." Quran chapter 22: v 24
Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him, said
"A good word is charity."
The malicious word is exactly the opposite.
9. Every good tree brings forth good fruit.
26. And the parable (of) a bad word is like a bad tree10, uprooted from the surface of the earth; having no stability.
10. Every corrupt tree that brings not forth good fruit is up rooted from the surface of the earth, and cast into the fire. Likewise men by their words and deeds you shall know them. Every word and every action is fruit from our hearts. Sinners sin because that is what is in their hearts. Thieves steal, rapists attack, and adulterers cheat, because those sins are the fruit being produced from an evil heart. Bad hearts produce bad fruit. But good hearts produce good fruit.
27. Allāh keeps firm those who believe with the firm Word (of faith)11 in this worldly life and in the Hereafter. Allāh (justly) leaves astray the unjust. Allāh does what He wills.
11. The testimony of faith that there is no deity except Allāh and that Muḥammad ﷺ is the messenger of Allāh 'God'.
30. And they have attributed to Allāh equals to mislead (people) from His way. Say: "Enjoy yourselves (in this world), for indeed, your destination is to the Hellfire."
31. Say to My servants who believe that they should keep up the prayer and spend (in charity) out of what We have given them, secretly and openly, before the coming of the Day in which there will be no bargaining nor any friendships."
32. It is Allāh Who created the heavens and the earth and sends down water from the sky, then brings forth with it fruits as sustenance for you. He has subjected for you the ships to sail through the sea by His Command and subjected for you the rivers.
34. And He gave you from all you asked of Him12. And if you should count Allah’s Favors, you will not be able to number them. Indeed, man (i.e., the denier) is truly unjust, ungrateful.
12. Something of what you asked and all of what you require, according to His wisdom.
36. Lord, surely they (the idols) have led astray many among the people. So whoever follows me - then he is of me; and whoever disobeys me - indeed, You are 'yet' Forgiving, Merciful.
37. Our Lord, I have settled some of my offspring (Ishmael and his descendants) in an uncultivated valley near Your Sacred House (at Makkah), our Lord, that they may keep up the prayer; so make the hearts among the people yearn towards them and provide them with fruits, so that they may be grateful.
44. Warn people of the Day when the torment will approach them, then those who did iniquities will say: "Our Lord (Allāh), respite us to a near term, we will answer Your call 'to Islam' and follow the Messengers. (But Allāh will answer): "Did you not swear before that you would never perish?
45. And you have (passed by and) settled in the dwellings of those (destroyed people) who sinned against themselves, and it was clear to you how We dealt with them, and We put forth examples for you."
46.They have indeed devised their (evil) plot, but with Allah is (recorded) their plot, even though their plot was (enough) to do away therefrom with the mountains13.
13. It would not be of any use against God’s power.
47. So think not that Allāh would ever fail of His Promise to His messengers. Indeed, Allāh is All-Mighty, All-Able of Retribution14.
14. Never avenge yourselves, but leave the way open for Allāh’s wrath and His judicial righteousness; for it is written in Scripture, “Vengeance is mine; I shall exact retribution upon the wicked."
48. On the Day when the earth will be changed into a different earth and the heavens as well15, and all appear before Allāh, the One, the All-Conquering16.
15. Earth will be replaced with another one which is pristine and white as silver and the Heavens will also be replaced. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said: “People will be gathered on the Day of Judgement on a reddish white land that has not been treaded on before, just like a pure loaf of bread (made of pure fine flour), on which there will be no landmarks for any one.
16. Allah’s Revenge will be on the Day of Judgment.
52. This is (God's) proclamation to (all) mankind, so that they may be warned thereby, and know that He (Allāh) is One (and the Only True) God, and so that men of understanding may take heed.
