120. The Jews will not be pleased with you (O Muslims), nor the Nazarenes (i.e., Christians) until you follow their faith (and way of life). Say: "Indeed, God’s Guidance (of the Religion of Islam), that is the (right) Guidance." If you follow their desires after the knowledge that has come to you, then you would have against Allāh neither any protector, nor helper.
121. Those to whom We have given the Scripture recite (and apply its teachings to their lives) as it should be recited (and applied)33. These believe in it. Whoever disbelieves in it (the Qur’an), they are the losers.
33. Applying the Qur’an by action is the duty of all the believers. If we don’t apply it in our lives, the Qur’an becomes nothing more to us than a normal book. The first step toward applying God’s Word in our lives is reading it. Our goal in reading is to get to know Allāh 'God', to learn His ways, and to understand His purpose of life. Our next goal is that we keep God’s Word in our hearts by studying, memorizing, and contemplating on what we have first read. These four steps: read, study, memorize, contemplate - make it possible to successfully apply the Qur’an to our lives. If we desire for the Word of God to take root in our lives so that we produce a harvest that pleases Allāh, we must ponder, reflect, and contemplate on what we read and study in the Qur’an. The application of the Qur’an enforces and further enlightens our study, and it also serves to sharpen our discernment, helping us to better distinguish between good and evil.
122. O children of Israel, recall My favor which I (Allāh) bestowed on you and that I preferred you over 'all' others (for My Revelations in the past).
123. Guard (yourselves) against a Day when no person will avail another in the least; neither will any ransom be accepted from him, nor will intercession benefit him, nor will they be helped.
124. (Mention O Prophet Muhammad) when Abraham was tested by his Lord 'Allāh' with words (certain Commandments)34, he fulfilled them all. (Allāh) said: "I will make you a leader of the people." (Abraham) said: "And of my offspring?" 'Allāh' said: "My Covenant does not include the unjust."
34. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, "Five practices are characteristic of Al-Fitrah 'the natural inclination': (1) Circumcision. (2) Shaving the pubic hair. (3) Cutting the moustaches short. (4) Clipping the nails. (5) and depilating the hair of the armpits.
125. When We made the House (the Ka’bah at Makkah) a place of refuge and sanctuary for the people. Take Abraham's standing-place (when building the Ka'bah) as a site of prayer. We enjoined Abraham and Ishmael: keep My house (the Ka’bah) clean for those who perform the circuit (around it), who stay there to worship and those who bow (and) prostrate themselves 'in prayer'.
126. When Abraham prayed saying: "Lord 'Allāh', make this town (Makkah) a secure place and provide its people with fruits, such of them as believe in Allāh and the Last Day". He said: "Whoever denies (the Truth), I will grant him enjoyment for a little, then I will force him to the torment of the Fire." What a miserable destiny.
