Al-Munāfiqūn

Ayah: 1

إِذَا جَآءَكَ ٱلۡمُنَٰفِقُونَ قَالُواْ نَشۡهَدُ إِنَّكَ لَرَسُولُ ٱللَّهِۗ وَٱللَّهُ يَعۡلَمُ إِنَّكَ لَرَسُولُهُۥ وَٱللَّهُ يَشۡهَدُ إِنَّ ٱلۡمُنَٰفِقِينَ لَكَٰذِبُونَ

1. When the hypocrites¹ come to you, they say: "We testify that you (Muhammad) are the messenger of God." And Allāh 'God' knows that you are His messenger. But Allāh testifies that the hypocrites are truly liars (in their declaration of faith).."

1. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said: "Whoever has the following four (characteristics) is a pure hypocrite and whoever has one of the following four characteristics, have one characteristic of hypocrisy unless and until he gives it up:
a. When he is entrusted, he betrays (proves dishonest).
b. When he speaks, he lies.
c. When he makes a covenant or promise, he proves treacherous breaking the promise.
d. When he quarrels, he behaves in a very imprudent, evil, and insulting manner."
He also said: "The worst people before Allāh on the Day of Judgment will be the double-faced people who appear to some people with one face and to other people with another face."
