مەنالار تەرجىمىسى سۈرە كەھپ - ئىنگىلىزچە تەرجىمىسى- ئابدۇللاھ ھەسەن ياقۇپ - قۇرئان كەرىم ئىنىسكىلوپىدىيىسى

Al-Kahf

1 : 18

ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِيٓ أَنزَلَ عَلَىٰ عَبۡدِهِ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ وَلَمۡ يَجۡعَل لَّهُۥ عِوَجَاۜ

1. All praise be to Allāh ^[1], Who has sent down the Book to His servant and has not made therein any crookedness ^[2].

[1]. It is a glorification of Allāh, God Almighty, for all His favours, both hidden and perceived, as well as those which relate to Islam and worldly matters. The greatest of all these favors ever is revealing the Qur’an to God’s most honorable servant, the Prophet Muhammad.
[2]. From the truth or the straight path, but made it a flawless guide without Any contradiction or discrepancy in it for all mankind and jinn.

2 : 18

قَيِّمٗا لِّيُنذِرَ بَأۡسٗا شَدِيدٗا مِّن لَّدُنۡهُ وَيُبَشِّرَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ ٱلَّذِينَ يَعۡمَلُونَ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ أَنَّ لَهُمۡ أَجۡرًا حَسَنٗا

2. A most upright (Book) to warn a severe Punishment from Him, and give good news to the believers who do righteous deeds that they will have an excellent reward (Paradise),

3 : 18

مَّٰكِثِينَ فِيهِ أَبَدٗا

3. In which they will remain forever;

4 : 18

وَيُنذِرَ ٱلَّذِينَ قَالُواْ ٱتَّخَذَ ٱللَّهُ وَلَدٗا

4. And to warn those who say: "Allāh (God) has taken to Himself a child" ^[3].

[3]. Such as the Christians who claim that Jesus is the son of God, and the pagans who claim that angels are God’s daughters. Having a child entails partaking in Godship, the need for a wife to fulfill emotional and bodily functions with her, are likeness to His creation who stand in need of offspring.

5 : 18

مَّا لَهُم بِهِۦ مِنۡ عِلۡمٖ وَلَا لِأٓبَآئِهِمۡۚ كَبُرَتۡ كَلِمَةٗ تَخۡرُجُ مِنۡ أَفۡوَٰهِهِمۡۚ إِن يَقُولُونَ إِلَّا كَذِبٗا

5. They have no (Divine) Knowledge of it, nor had their fathers. What a grave word it is that comes out of their mouths. They say nothing but lies.

6 : 18

فَلَعَلَّكَ بَٰخِعٞ نَّفۡسَكَ عَلَىٰٓ ءَاثَٰرِهِمۡ إِن لَّمۡ يُؤۡمِنُواْ بِهَٰذَا ٱلۡحَدِيثِ أَسَفًا

6. Then perhaps you will torment yourself (O Muhammad) to death over their tracks, if they do not believe in this discourse out of sorrow.

7 : 18

إِنَّا جَعَلۡنَا مَا عَلَى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ زِينَةٗ لَّهَا لِنَبۡلُوَهُمۡ أَيُّهُمۡ أَحۡسَنُ عَمَلٗا

7. Indeed, We have made whatever is on earth as an adornment for it, so that We may test them as to which of them is best in conduct and deed ^[4].

[4]. This world is the place of striving and the Hereafter is the place of reward or punishment, where the believers will be rewarded with Paradise and the disbelievers will be punished with Hell. 
Paradise is good and none but those who are good will enter it. Allāh is Good and accepts nothing but that which is good. So the way of Allāh with the people is to test them with calamities and tribulations, so that the believer may be known from the unbeliever and so that the truthful may be distinguished from the liar.

8 : 18

وَإِنَّا لَجَٰعِلُونَ مَا عَلَيۡهَا صَعِيدٗا جُرُزًا

8. And indeed, We will certainly make all that is on it (the earth) a bare dry ground (without vegetation).

9 : 18

أَمۡ حَسِبۡتَ أَنَّ أَصۡحَٰبَ ٱلۡكَهۡفِ وَٱلرَّقِيمِ كَانُواْ مِنۡ ءَايَٰتِنَا عَجَبًا

9. Or, do you think that the companions of the cave ^[5] and the Inscription were of Our signs 'specially' wondrous ^[6]?

[5]. The seven sleepers of Ephesus.
[6]. Rather, it is only one of the many wonders of Allāh.

10 : 18

إِذۡ أَوَى ٱلۡفِتۡيَةُ إِلَى ٱلۡكَهۡفِ فَقَالُواْ رَبَّنَآ ءَاتِنَا مِن لَّدُنكَ رَحۡمَةٗ وَهَيِّئۡ لَنَا مِنۡ أَمۡرِنَا رَشَدٗا

10. When the (faithful) youths sought refuge in the cave ^[7], then they said: "Our Lord (Allāh), grant us Mercy from You, and provide for us a right course in our affair ^[8]".

[7]. Fleeing from their disbelieving people.
[8]. They asked Allāh for a means of which the end is firmness on the path to the Truth, Islam, being spared from the idolaters, gaining useful knowledge and acting upon it, so that their religious and worldly affairs would be on the right side.

11 : 18

فَضَرَبۡنَا عَلَىٰٓ ءَاذَانِهِمۡ فِي ٱلۡكَهۡفِ سِنِينَ عَدَدٗا

11. So We sealed up their ears ^[9] (and caused them to fall into a deep sleep) in the cave for a number of years.

[9]. Their ears are specifically mentioned because the sense of hearing above and beyond any other sense is the one that spoils sleep most. If done in perfect circumstances, rarely is sleep disturbed by a cause other than noise.

12 : 18

ثُمَّ بَعَثۡنَٰهُمۡ لِنَعۡلَمَ أَيُّ ٱلۡحِزۡبَيۡنِ أَحۡصَىٰ لِمَا لَبِثُوٓاْ أَمَدٗا

12. Then We raised them up ^[10] so that We might make evident which of the two parties was best able to calculate the time for which they stayed (in the Cave, sleeping) .

[10]. From that sleep. Sleep is a kind of death.

13 : 18

نَّحۡنُ نَقُصُّ عَلَيۡكَ نَبَأَهُم بِٱلۡحَقِّۚ إِنَّهُمۡ فِتۡيَةٌ ءَامَنُواْ بِرَبِّهِمۡ وَزِدۡنَٰهُمۡ هُدٗى

13. We relate to you (Muhammad) their story in truth. Indeed, they were youths who believed in their Lord (Allāh alone) and We increased them in guidance ^[11].

[11]. Youth is the most vital stage of life, worthy to make the best use of it and to strive toward excellence. Youngsters are full of energy and vivid passions. Their road is paved with hope, persistence and enlightened thinking. Indeed, it is the period of beneficial production for generations to come. Muslim youth must be aware of the essential importance and value of their life, direct it to the right way in order to achieve the best outcome.
Islamic history has a myriad of examples of great Muslim youth who were luminaries of humanity. We remind you of young believers who gathered around the Prophet (peace be upon him) to name a few, Zaid bin Thabet (may Allah be pleased with him) who collected the whole text of the Holy Qur’an, and Mus’ab bin Umair (may Allah be pleased with him) who was the first ambassador in Islam. He was asked by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to go to Madina to teach the Qur’an and through him and his teachings the people of Madina converted to Islam, Usama bin Zayd, Ibn Abbas, and Hassan and Husain (may Allah be pleased with them all).
The Messenger of Allah said: 'Hasan and Husain will be the leaders of the youth of Paradise, and their father is better than them."
And in this chapter Allāh relates the story of the 'faithful' youths who believed in their Lord 'Allāh alone'.

14 : 18

وَرَبَطۡنَا عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمۡ إِذۡ قَامُواْ فَقَالُواْ رَبُّنَا رَبُّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ لَن نَّدۡعُوَاْ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ إِلَٰهٗاۖ لَّقَدۡ قُلۡنَآ إِذٗا شَطَطًا

14. And We strengthened their hearts, when they stood up ^[12] and said: "Our Lord (Allāh) is the Lord of the heavens and the earth; never shall we invoke besides Him any god, (if we invoke others), then indeed our invoking would be too far away (from the Truth)!

[12]. Before their king, who had commanded them to worship idols and false gods.

15 : 18

هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ قَوۡمُنَا ٱتَّخَذُواْ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ ءَالِهَةٗۖ لَّوۡلَا يَأۡتُونَ عَلَيۡهِم بِسُلۡطَٰنِۭ بَيِّنٖۖ فَمَنۡ أَظۡلَمُ مِمَّنِ ٱفۡتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبٗا

15. These our people have taken (false) deities besides Him. Why do they not bring for (their worshiping of) them a clear authority? Who is then more unjust than he who invents a lie against Allāh?

16 : 18

وَإِذِ ٱعۡتَزَلۡتُمُوهُمۡ وَمَا يَعۡبُدُونَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهَ فَأۡوُۥٓاْ إِلَى ٱلۡكَهۡفِ يَنشُرۡ لَكُمۡ رَبُّكُم مِّن رَّحۡمَتِهِۦ وَيُهَيِّئۡ لَكُم مِّنۡ أَمۡرِكُم مِّرۡفَقٗا

16. And when you withdraw from them and what they worship besides Allāh, then betake yourselves to the cave for refuge; then your Lord (Allāh) will spread out for you of His mercy, and prepare for you an easy course in your affair.

17 : 18

۞ وَتَرَى ٱلشَّمۡسَ إِذَا طَلَعَت تَّزَٰوَرُ عَن كَهۡفِهِمۡ ذَاتَ ٱلۡيَمِينِ وَإِذَا غَرَبَت تَّقۡرِضُهُمۡ ذَاتَ ٱلشِّمَالِ وَهُمۡ فِي فَجۡوَةٖ مِّنۡهُۚ ذَٰلِكَ مِنۡ ءَايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِۗ مَن يَهۡدِ ٱللَّهُ فَهُوَ ٱلۡمُهۡتَدِۖ وَمَن يُضۡلِلۡ فَلَن تَجِدَ لَهُۥ وَلِيّٗا مُّرۡشِدٗا

17. And you might have seen the sun, when it rose, declining from their cave towards the right, and when it set, turning away from them to the left, while they were in a wide space thereof ^[13]. This is of the Signs of Allāh. He whom Allāh guides, he is rightly guided, and he whom He leaves astray you shall not find for him any protecting guide to lead (him to the right way of Islam).

[13]. As such they would get all the air and ventilation they needed to sustain.

18 : 18

وَتَحۡسَبُهُمۡ أَيۡقَاظٗا وَهُمۡ رُقُودٞۚ وَنُقَلِّبُهُمۡ ذَاتَ ٱلۡيَمِينِ وَذَاتَ ٱلشِّمَالِۖ وَكَلۡبُهُم بَٰسِطٞ ذِرَاعَيۡهِ بِٱلۡوَصِيدِۚ لَوِ ٱطَّلَعۡتَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ لَوَلَّيۡتَ مِنۡهُمۡ فِرَارٗا وَلَمُلِئۡتَ مِنۡهُمۡ رُعۡبٗا

18. And you would think them awake, while they were asleep, and We turned them on their right and on their left sides ^[14], while their dog lay outstretching his forelegs at the entrance. Had you looked at them you would certainly have turned back from them in flight, and you would have been filled with terror of them.

[14]. It is a common medical practice nowadays to turn bed-ridden patients on their sides every few hours so that they do not get bedsores resulting from prolonged pressure on the skin.

19 : 18

وَكَذَٰلِكَ بَعَثۡنَٰهُمۡ لِيَتَسَآءَلُواْ بَيۡنَهُمۡۚ قَالَ قَآئِلٞ مِّنۡهُمۡ كَمۡ لَبِثۡتُمۡۖ قَالُواْ لَبِثۡنَا يَوۡمًا أَوۡ بَعۡضَ يَوۡمٖۚ قَالُواْ رَبُّكُمۡ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَا لَبِثۡتُمۡ فَٱبۡعَثُوٓاْ أَحَدَكُم بِوَرِقِكُمۡ هَٰذِهِۦٓ إِلَى ٱلۡمَدِينَةِ فَلۡيَنظُرۡ أَيُّهَآ أَزۡكَىٰ طَعَامٗا فَلۡيَأۡتِكُم بِرِزۡقٖ مِّنۡهُ وَلۡيَتَلَطَّفۡ وَلَا يُشۡعِرَنَّ بِكُمۡ أَحَدًا

19. Thus We awakened them that they might question one another. A speaker among them said: "How long have you remained?" They said: "We have remained 'perhaps' a day or part of a day." (Then others among them) said: "Your Lord (Allāh) knows best how long you have remained." Now send one of you with this silver (coin) of yours to the city, then let him see which of them has the purest food, so let him bring you provision from it, and let him be careful, and let no one be aware of you.

20 : 18

إِنَّهُمۡ إِن يَظۡهَرُواْ عَلَيۡكُمۡ يَرۡجُمُوكُمۡ أَوۡ يُعِيدُوكُمۡ فِي مِلَّتِهِمۡ وَلَن تُفۡلِحُوٓاْ إِذًا أَبَدٗا

20. For if they come to know of you, they would stone you (to death) or force you back to their faith (and way of life), and then you will never prosper.

21 : 18

وَكَذَٰلِكَ أَعۡثَرۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ لِيَعۡلَمُوٓاْ أَنَّ وَعۡدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقّٞ وَأَنَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ لَا رَيۡبَ فِيهَآ إِذۡ يَتَنَٰزَعُونَ بَيۡنَهُمۡ أَمۡرَهُمۡۖ فَقَالُواْ ٱبۡنُواْ عَلَيۡهِم بُنۡيَٰنٗاۖ رَّبُّهُمۡ أَعۡلَمُ بِهِمۡۚ قَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ غَلَبُواْ عَلَىٰٓ أَمۡرِهِمۡ لَنَتَّخِذَنَّ عَلَيۡهِم مَّسۡجِدٗا

21. And it was thus that We let them come upon them, that they might know that Allah’s Promise is 'unfailingly' true, and that as for the Hour (of Doom), there is no doubt about it. (That was) when they were disputing among themselves their affair and 'then' said, "Build over them a structure (in their memory) - their Lord (Allāh) knows best about them." Those who prevailed over their affair said: "We shall certainly build a place of worship over them ^[15]."

[15]. One of the wives of the Prophet told him that in Abyssinia she saw a church full of images. The Prophet Muhammad said: “When a righteous man or saint among them dies they build a place of worship over his grave and set up images. They are the worst of all creatures before God. They combined the two evils; worshipping to the graves and making graven images.”
The Prophet Muhammad said: "Beware, those who preceded before you, used to make their Prophets’ graves into places of worship. Beware, don’t take any graves as places o f worship. I forbid you to do so.”

22 : 18

سَيَقُولُونَ ثَلَٰثَةٞ رَّابِعُهُمۡ كَلۡبُهُمۡ وَيَقُولُونَ خَمۡسَةٞ سَادِسُهُمۡ كَلۡبُهُمۡ رَجۡمَۢا بِٱلۡغَيۡبِۖ وَيَقُولُونَ سَبۡعَةٞ وَثَامِنُهُمۡ كَلۡبُهُمۡۚ قُل رَّبِّيٓ أَعۡلَمُ بِعِدَّتِهِم مَّا يَعۡلَمُهُمۡ إِلَّا قَلِيلٞۗ فَلَا تُمَارِ فِيهِمۡ إِلَّا مِرَآءٗ ظَٰهِرٗا وَلَا تَسۡتَفۡتِ فِيهِم مِّنۡهُمۡ أَحَدٗا

22. (Some) will say: (They were) three, the fourth of them being their dog, and (others) say: "Five, the sixth of them being their dog," guessing at the unseen. And (yet others) say: "Seven, and the eighth of them is their dog." Say: "My Lord (Allāh) knows best their number, no one knows them except a few; so debate not (about their number) except with the clear proof. And do not consult any of them (of the followers of the past Scripture) about the people of the cave (the seven sleepers of Ephesus)."

23 : 18

وَلَا تَقُولَنَّ لِشَاْيۡءٍ إِنِّي فَاعِلٞ ذَٰلِكَ غَدًا

23. And never say of anything, "Surely I am doing that tomorrow, "

24 : 18

إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُۚ وَٱذۡكُر رَّبَّكَ إِذَا نَسِيتَ وَقُلۡ عَسَىٰٓ أَن يَهۡدِيَنِ رَبِّي لِأَقۡرَبَ مِنۡ هَٰذَا رَشَدٗا

24. Except (with the saying): "If Allāh wills ^[16]." Remember your Lord when you forget and say: "Maybe my Lord (Allâh) will guide me to a nearer way to what is right than this."

[16]. As soon as one remembers not saying inshā’ Allah - if God wills - concerning doing something in the future, he should say it. Also when one forgets something, he should mention Allāh by saying Laa ilaaha illal Laah 'there is no true God but Allâh only', so as to remember things.

25 : 18

وَلَبِثُواْ فِي كَهۡفِهِمۡ ثَلَٰثَ مِاْئَةٖ سِنِينَ وَٱزۡدَادُواْ تِسۡعٗا

25. They remained in their cave (sleeping) three hundred (solar) years and (to that) they increased nine (for lunar years) ^[17].

[17]. Allāh runs the affairs of all His creation with great care, as much as He cared for these youth. He delegates this to none.

26 : 18

قُلِ ٱللَّهُ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَا لَبِثُواْۖ لَهُۥ غَيۡبُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ أَبۡصِرۡ بِهِۦ وَأَسۡمِعۡۚ مَا لَهُم مِّن دُونِهِۦ مِن وَلِيّٖ وَلَا يُشۡرِكُ فِي حُكۡمِهِۦٓ أَحَدٗا

26. Say: "Allāh knows best how long they remained. To Him (belongs) the (knowledge of the) unseen of the heavens and the earth. How clearly He sees thereby and hears (everything).There is no Protector for them besides Him, and He does not make any one to be His associate in His Judgment."

27 : 18

وَٱتۡلُ مَآ أُوحِيَ إِلَيۡكَ مِن كِتَابِ رَبِّكَۖ لَا مُبَدِّلَ لِكَلِمَٰتِهِۦ وَلَن تَجِدَ مِن دُونِهِۦ مُلۡتَحَدٗا

27. Recite what has been revealed to you (Muhammad) of the Book of your Lord (this Qur’an), there is none who can change His Words; and you will never find any refuge other than Him.

28 : 18

وَٱصۡبِرۡ نَفۡسَكَ مَعَ ٱلَّذِينَ يَدۡعُونَ رَبَّهُم بِٱلۡغَدَوٰةِ وَٱلۡعَشِيِّ يُرِيدُونَ وَجۡهَهُۥۖ وَلَا تَعۡدُ عَيۡنَاكَ عَنۡهُمۡ تُرِيدُ زِينَةَ ٱلۡحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡيَاۖ وَلَا تُطِعۡ مَنۡ أَغۡفَلۡنَا قَلۡبَهُۥ عَن ذِكۡرِنَا وَٱتَّبَعَ هَوَىٰهُ وَكَانَ أَمۡرُهُۥ فُرُطٗا

28. Keep yourself patiently with those who call on their Lord (Allāh alone) morning and evening, seeking His face, and let not your eyes overlook them, desiring the adornment of the life of this world. Do not follow him whose heart We have made heedless of Our Remembrance, and who follows his lowly desires, and whose affair is in excess.

29 : 18

وَقُلِ ٱلۡحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّكُمۡۖ فَمَن شَآءَ فَلۡيُؤۡمِن وَمَن شَآءَ فَلۡيَكۡفُرۡۚ إِنَّآ أَعۡتَدۡنَا لِلظَّٰلِمِينَ نَارًا أَحَاطَ بِهِمۡ سُرَادِقُهَاۚ وَإِن يَسۡتَغِيثُواْ يُغَاثُواْ بِمَآءٖ كَٱلۡمُهۡلِ يَشۡوِي ٱلۡوُجُوهَۚ بِئۡسَ ٱلشَّرَابُ وَسَآءَتۡ مُرۡتَفَقًا

29. And say: "The Truth is from your Lord, so let him who wills believe, and let him who wills disbelieve." We have prepared for the workers of iniqiuty a Fire, whose walls will surround them. And if they cry for relief, they will be relieved (with) water like molten brass which will scald their faces. Wretched is the drink, and evil is the resting- place.

30 : 18

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ إِنَّا لَا نُضِيعُ أَجۡرَ مَنۡ أَحۡسَنَ عَمَلًا

30. Indeed, those who believe and do righteous deeds, We do not waste the reward of the one who 'excels' in doing good.

31 : 18

أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ لَهُمۡ جَنَّٰتُ عَدۡنٖ تَجۡرِي مِن تَحۡتِهِمُ ٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرُ يُحَلَّوۡنَ فِيهَا مِنۡ أَسَاوِرَ مِن ذَهَبٖ وَيَلۡبَسُونَ ثِيَابًا خُضۡرٗا مِّن سُندُسٖ وَإِسۡتَبۡرَقٖ مُّتَّكِـِٔينَ فِيهَا عَلَى ٱلۡأَرَآئِكِۚ نِعۡمَ ٱلثَّوَابُ وَحَسُنَتۡ مُرۡتَفَقٗا

31. Those will have Gardens of Eden, under which rivers flow, they will be adorned therein with bracelets of gold, and will wear green robes of fine silk and brocade, reclining therein on raised couches. What an Excellent reward, and what a pleasant resting place.

32 : 18

۞ وَٱضۡرِبۡ لَهُم مَّثَلٗا رَّجُلَيۡنِ جَعَلۡنَا لِأَحَدِهِمَا جَنَّتَيۡنِ مِنۡ أَعۡنَٰبٖ وَحَفَفۡنَٰهُمَا بِنَخۡلٖ وَجَعَلۡنَا بَيۡنَهُمَا زَرۡعٗا

32. And present to them an example of two men; We gave to one of them two gardens of grape vines, and We surrounded them both with date-palms, and We placed between them a field of crops.

33 : 18

كِلۡتَا ٱلۡجَنَّتَيۡنِ ءَاتَتۡ أُكُلَهَا وَلَمۡ تَظۡلِم مِّنۡهُ شَيۡـٔٗاۚ وَفَجَّرۡنَا خِلَٰلَهُمَا نَهَرٗا

33. Both gardens brought out its (full) yield, and did not wrong of it anything.

34 : 18

وَكَانَ لَهُۥ ثَمَرٞ فَقَالَ لِصَٰحِبِهِۦ وَهُوَ يُحَاوِرُهُۥٓ أَنَا۠ أَكۡثَرُ مِنكَ مَالٗا وَأَعَزُّ نَفَرٗا

34. And he possessed fruit. So he said to his fellow, as he was conversing with him: "I am more than you in wealth, and mightier in (numbers of) men."

35 : 18

وَدَخَلَ جَنَّتَهُۥ وَهُوَ ظَالِمٞ لِّنَفۡسِهِۦ قَالَ مَآ أَظُنُّ أَن تَبِيدَ هَٰذِهِۦٓ أَبَدٗا

35. And he entered his garden while he was unjust for himself. He said: "I do not think that this will ever perish."

36 : 18

وَمَآ أَظُنُّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ قَآئِمَةٗ وَلَئِن رُّدِدتُّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّي لَأَجِدَنَّ خَيۡرٗا مِّنۡهَا مُنقَلَبٗا

36. Nor do I think that the Hour 'of Doom' will come. And even if I am returned to (Allāh) my Lord, I shall find a returning place better than it.

37 : 18

قَالَ لَهُۥ صَاحِبُهُۥ وَهُوَ يُحَاوِرُهُۥٓ أَكَفَرۡتَ بِٱلَّذِي خَلَقَكَ مِن تُرَابٖ ثُمَّ مِن نُّطۡفَةٖ ثُمَّ سَوَّىٰكَ رَجُلٗا

37. His fellow said to him while conversing with him: "Have you disbelieved (in Allāh) Who created you from dust, then from a drop of sperm, then made you a perfect man?"

38 : 18

لَّٰكِنَّا۠ هُوَ ٱللَّهُ رَبِّي وَلَآ أُشۡرِكُ بِرَبِّيٓ أَحَدٗا

38. But He Allāh is my Lord, and I do not associate anyone in worship with my Lord ^[18].

[18]. None is worthy of worship except Allāh, the Sovereign Lord of all beings.

39 : 18

وَلَوۡلَآ إِذۡ دَخَلۡتَ جَنَّتَكَ قُلۡتَ مَا شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ لَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِٱللَّهِۚ إِن تَرَنِ أَنَا۠ أَقَلَّ مِنكَ مَالٗا وَوَلَدٗا

39. If only when you entered your garden, you had said, "Whatever Allāh wills (will come to pass) ^[19], there is no power except with Allāh? ^[20]. Even though you see me less than you in wealth and children,

[19]. Once a man came to the Prophet and said, “With the Will of Allāh and (also) with your will”, he (the Prophet) then said, “Have you made me an associate with Allāh? Rather it is what Allāh Alone wills.”
[20]. Muhammad, God's Messenger (ﷺ) said: “Shall I not teach you a word which is one of the treasures of Paradise? It is to say 'lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāh' (i.e., there is no ability or power except through Allāh).

40 : 18

فَعَسَىٰ رَبِّيٓ أَن يُؤۡتِيَنِ خَيۡرٗا مِّن جَنَّتِكَ وَيُرۡسِلَ عَلَيۡهَا حُسۡبَانٗا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَتُصۡبِحَ صَعِيدٗا زَلَقًا

40. Yet it maybe that (Allāh) my Lord will give me what is better than your garden, and He send upon it a thunderbolt from the sky, so it becomes a slippery flattened plain ground.

41 : 18

أَوۡ يُصۡبِحَ مَآؤُهَا غَوۡرٗا فَلَن تَسۡتَطِيعَ لَهُۥ طَلَبٗا

41. Or its water will become sunken deep (into the ground), so that you will never be able to seek it.

42 : 18

وَأُحِيطَ بِثَمَرِهِۦ فَأَصۡبَحَ يُقَلِّبُ كَفَّيۡهِ عَلَىٰ مَآ أَنفَقَ فِيهَا وَهِيَ خَاوِيَةٌ عَلَىٰ عُرُوشِهَا وَيَقُولُ يَٰلَيۡتَنِي لَمۡ أُشۡرِكۡ بِرَبِّيٓ أَحَدٗا

42. And his fruits were encompassed (by ruin) ^[21]; and there he was, wringing his hands (in grief) for what he had spent on it, while it had collapsed on its trellises, and said: "Woe to me. Would that I had not associated anyone with my Lord."

[21]. One should not be swayed away from the reason for existence by the adornment of life; all of it will be gone one day.

43 : 18

وَلَمۡ تَكُن لَّهُۥ فِئَةٞ يَنصُرُونَهُۥ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَمَا كَانَ مُنتَصِرًا

43. And he had no group to help him against Allāh, and he was not capable 'even' to help himself.

44 : 18

هُنَالِكَ ٱلۡوَلَٰيَةُ لِلَّهِ ٱلۡحَقِّۚ هُوَ خَيۡرٞ ثَوَابٗا وَخَيۡرٌ عُقۡبٗا

44. There, the authority is only for Allah, the True One. He is Best in reward and Best in 'final' outcome.

45 : 18

وَٱضۡرِبۡ لَهُم مَّثَلَ ٱلۡحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡيَا كَمَآءٍ أَنزَلۡنَٰهُ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَٱخۡتَلَطَ بِهِۦ نَبَاتُ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَأَصۡبَحَ هَشِيمٗا تَذۡرُوهُ ٱلرِّيَٰحُۗ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيۡءٖ مُّقۡتَدِرًا

45. And present to them the example of the life of this world, it is like water which We send down from the sky, so the plants of the earth mingles with it, then it becomes dry grass broken into pieces which the winds scatter. And it is Allāh who has absolute power over all things.

46 : 18

ٱلۡمَالُ وَٱلۡبَنُونَ زِينَةُ ٱلۡحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡيَاۖ وَٱلۡبَٰقِيَٰتُ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتُ خَيۡرٌ عِندَ رَبِّكَ ثَوَابٗا وَخَيۡرٌ أَمَلٗا

46. Wealth and children are the adornment of the life of this world. But the ever-lasting good deeds are far better with your Lord 'Allāh' in reward, and better in hope ^[22].

[22]. Referring to all the deeds which please Allāh, God Almighty; be they the five daily Prayers, or the words of Remembrance of Allāh, because, unlike the transient adornment of life, they are ‘everlasting’ for their doers, and ‘good’ because they are carried out in a manner that pleases Allāh. Muhammed, God's messenger ﷺ, said: “To say: Subḥānallāh 'Glory be to Allāh', Al-ḥamdu lillāh 'all gratitude be to Allāh', Lā Ilāha illal lāh 'there is no god but Allāh' and Allāhu Akbar 'Allāh is the Greatest' are among the everlasting good deeds.”

47 : 18

وَيَوۡمَ نُسَيِّرُ ٱلۡجِبَالَ وَتَرَى ٱلۡأَرۡضَ بَارِزَةٗ وَحَشَرۡنَٰهُمۡ فَلَمۡ نُغَادِرۡ مِنۡهُمۡ أَحَدٗا

47. (Beware of) the Day We will remove the mountains and you will see the earth laid bare and We gather them all, not leaving a single one of them behind.

48 : 18

وَعُرِضُواْ عَلَىٰ رَبِّكَ صَفّٗا لَّقَدۡ جِئۡتُمُونَا كَمَا خَلَقۡنَٰكُمۡ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةِۭۚ بَلۡ زَعَمۡتُمۡ أَلَّن نَّجۡعَلَ لَكُم مَّوۡعِدٗا

48. And they will be presented before your Lord in rows, (and the disbelievers will be told), "You have certainly come to Us as We created you at first ^[23]. Rather, you claimed that We would never appoint for you a time, (for the fulfillment of this Promise)."

[23]. Nude, uncircumcised, and lonely.

49 : 18

وَوُضِعَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبُ فَتَرَى ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِينَ مُشۡفِقِينَ مِمَّا فِيهِ وَيَقُولُونَ يَٰوَيۡلَتَنَا مَالِ هَٰذَا ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ لَا يُغَادِرُ صَغِيرَةٗ وَلَا كَبِيرَةً إِلَّآ أَحۡصَىٰهَاۚ وَوَجَدُواْ مَا عَمِلُواْ حَاضِرٗاۗ وَلَا يَظۡلِمُ رَبُّكَ أَحَدٗا

49. And the record (of deeds) will be laid (open), then you will see the wicked fearing from what is therein, and they will cry: "Ah, Woe to us. What a record is this! It leaves out nothing (of our sins) minor or major, but numbers them all." And they will find whatever they did present (before them). And your Lord does injustice to no one.

50 : 18

وَإِذۡ قُلۡنَا لِلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ ٱسۡجُدُواْ لِأٓدَمَ فَسَجَدُوٓاْ إِلَّآ إِبۡلِيسَ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡجِنِّ فَفَسَقَ عَنۡ أَمۡرِ رَبِّهِۦٓۗ أَفَتَتَّخِذُونَهُۥ وَذُرِّيَّتَهُۥٓ أَوۡلِيَآءَ مِن دُونِي وَهُمۡ لَكُمۡ عَدُوُّۢۚ بِئۡسَ لِلظَّٰلِمِينَ بَدَلٗا

50. And (mention) when We said to the angels: "Prostrate to Adam." So they all prostrated except Iblees, he was of the jinn, then he rebelled from the Command of his Lord. Would you then take him and his offspring for your masters ^[24] rather than Me, while they are to you enemies? Wretched it is for the wrongdoers as an exchange ^[25].

[24]. Demons could possess their idols and communicate through them; they also used to seek refuge from the evil of the jinn by appraising them and slaughtering sacrifices for them
[25]. Satan along with his fellow demons continues to lead people astray from the right Path of Islam.

51 : 18

۞ مَّآ أَشۡهَدتُّهُمۡ خَلۡقَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَلَا خَلۡقَ أَنفُسِهِمۡ وَمَا كُنتُ مُتَّخِذَ ٱلۡمُضِلِّينَ عَضُدٗا

51. I did not make them (Satan and his associates) witness to the creation of the heavens and the earth, nor to the creation of their own selves; nor could I take the misguiders for helpers ^[26].

[26]. Allāh, the source of true guidance, would not take false deities, who are the main cause of misguidance, as helpers.

52 : 18

وَيَوۡمَ يَقُولُ نَادُواْ شُرَكَآءِيَ ٱلَّذِينَ زَعَمۡتُمۡ فَدَعَوۡهُمۡ فَلَمۡ يَسۡتَجِيبُواْ لَهُمۡ وَجَعَلۡنَا بَيۡنَهُم مَّوۡبِقٗا

52. (Mention Muhammad) the Day when Allāh will say: "Call on those you claimed were My associate-gods." So they will call them 'for help', but they will not answer them ^[27]; and We shall put between them a barrier (of enmity).

[27]. The false deities they took besides Allāh will let them down when they need them most on Judgment Day.

53 : 18

وَرَءَا ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُونَ ٱلنَّارَ فَظَنُّوٓاْ أَنَّهُم مُّوَاقِعُوهَا وَلَمۡ يَجِدُواْ عَنۡهَا مَصۡرِفٗا

53. The guilty will see the Fire (of Hell) and are certain that they are bound to fall into it, And they will not find from it a way elsewhere.

54 : 18

وَلَقَدۡ صَرَّفۡنَا فِي هَٰذَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ لِلنَّاسِ مِن كُلِّ مَثَلٖۚ وَكَانَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ أَكۡثَرَ شَيۡءٖ جَدَلٗا

54. And We have certainly varied in this Qur’an every kind of example for mankind ^[28]. But man is ever more quarrelsome than anything ^[29].

[28]. So that people may become mindful of God and be rightly guided.
[29]. Humans always defend their position instead of yielding to the truth. It pertains to disbelievers more than anyone else.

55 : 18

وَمَا مَنَعَ ٱلنَّاسَ أَن يُؤۡمِنُوٓاْ إِذۡ جَآءَهُمُ ٱلۡهُدَىٰ وَيَسۡتَغۡفِرُواْ رَبَّهُمۡ إِلَّآ أَن تَأۡتِيَهُمۡ سُنَّةُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ أَوۡ يَأۡتِيَهُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابُ قُبُلٗا

55. And nothing prevents people from believing when the guidance has come to them, and from asking forgiveness from their Lord 'Allāh', except that the tradition of the ancients ^[30] should come to them, or that the torment should come face to face to them.

[30]. Who rebelled against God.

56 : 18

وَمَا نُرۡسِلُ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ إِلَّا مُبَشِّرِينَ وَمُنذِرِينَۚ وَيُجَٰدِلُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ بِٱلۡبَٰطِلِ لِيُدۡحِضُواْ بِهِ ٱلۡحَقَّۖ وَٱتَّخَذُوٓاْ ءَايَٰتِي وَمَآ أُنذِرُواْ هُزُوٗا

56. We do not send Messengers but as givers of good news and warners ^[31]. And the disbelievers argue in falsehood that they may refute thereby the Truth, and they take My revelations and that with which they are warned as mockery.

[31]. The Prophet Muhammad said: "If anyone testifies that Lâ ilâha illallâh (none has the right to be worshipped but Allāh Alone) Who has no partners, and that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger, and that Jesus is God's servant and His Messenger and His Word ("Be", and he was) which He bestowed on Mary and a spirit created by Allāh, and that Paradise is real, and Hell is real, Allāh will admit him into Paradise with the deeds which he had done even if those deeds were few."

57 : 18

وَمَنۡ أَظۡلَمُ مِمَّن ذُكِّرَ بِـَٔايَٰتِ رَبِّهِۦ فَأَعۡرَضَ عَنۡهَا وَنَسِيَ مَا قَدَّمَتۡ يَدَاهُۚ إِنَّا جَعَلۡنَا عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمۡ أَكِنَّةً أَن يَفۡقَهُوهُ وَفِيٓ ءَاذَانِهِمۡ وَقۡرٗاۖ وَإِن تَدۡعُهُمۡ إِلَى ٱلۡهُدَىٰ فَلَن يَهۡتَدُوٓاْ إِذًا أَبَدٗا

57. Who is more unjust than he who is reminded of the Verses of his Lord 'Allāh', then he turns away from them and forgets what his two hands have sent forth (of sins)? Indeed, We have placed veils over their hearts lest they understand it and deafness in their ears. And if you invite them to the 'right' guidance, they will never be guided.

58 : 18

وَرَبُّكَ ٱلۡغَفُورُ ذُو ٱلرَّحۡمَةِۖ لَوۡ يُؤَاخِذُهُم بِمَا كَسَبُواْ لَعَجَّلَ لَهُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابَۚ بَل لَّهُم مَّوۡعِدٞ لَّن يَجِدُواْ مِن دُونِهِۦ مَوۡئِلٗا

58. And your Lord (Allāh) is the Ever-Forgiving, The Owner of Mercy. Were He to seize men for what they earn (of sin), He would certainly have hastened the torment for them; rather for them there is an appointed time, from which they will find no refuge.

59 : 18

وَتِلۡكَ ٱلۡقُرَىٰٓ أَهۡلَكۡنَٰهُمۡ لَمَّا ظَلَمُواْ وَجَعَلۡنَا لِمَهۡلِكِهِم مَّوۡعِدٗا

59. These towns (the population of ‘Aad, Thamud, etc.) We destroyed them when they persistently did iniquity, and We have set for their destruction an appointed time.

60 : 18

وَإِذۡ قَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِفَتَىٰهُ لَآ أَبۡرَحُ حَتَّىٰٓ أَبۡلُغَ مَجۡمَعَ ٱلۡبَحۡرَيۡنِ أَوۡ أَمۡضِيَ حُقُبٗا

60. And (mention) ^[32] when Moses said to his young attendant (Joshua): "I shall not give up (travelling) until I reach the junction of the two seas ^[33] even if I travel for ages."

[32]. Muhammed, God's Messenger ﷺ, tells one story of Moses (عليه السلام) as he stood delivering a speech to the Children of Israel. One of them asked him if he knew anyone more knowledgeable than he was and he replied in the negative. Then God revealed to him that His servant, Al-Khiḍr, was of greater knowledge than himself. Moses then asked God about a way of meeting him and he was told to seek him out where the fish come to life and swim into the sea.
[33]. The Gulf of Aqaba and the Gulf of Suez.

61 : 18

فَلَمَّا بَلَغَا مَجۡمَعَ بَيۡنِهِمَا نَسِيَا حُوتَهُمَا فَٱتَّخَذَ سَبِيلَهُۥ فِي ٱلۡبَحۡرِ سَرَبٗا

61. Then when they both had reached the junction of the two seas they forgot their fish, and it took its path in the sea, slipping away.

62 : 18

فَلَمَّا جَاوَزَا قَالَ لِفَتَىٰهُ ءَاتِنَا غَدَآءَنَا لَقَدۡ لَقِينَا مِن سَفَرِنَا هَٰذَا نَصَبٗا

62. When they had passed further, (Moses) said to his (young) servant: "Bring to us our morning meal, we have encountered in this our journey ^[34] (much) fatigue."

[34]. There are six forms of chivalry. Three of them are for when you are at home and three others are for when you are travelling. The three for when you are at home are: reciting the Qur’an, regularly attending the congregational prayer and promoting God's Mosques and making friends for the sake of God. The three for when you are travelling are: to give to others from your own travel provisions, being good-tempered and joking regarding things other than acts of disobedience.

63 : 18

قَالَ أَرَءَيۡتَ إِذۡ أَوَيۡنَآ إِلَى ٱلصَّخۡرَةِ فَإِنِّي نَسِيتُ ٱلۡحُوتَ وَمَآ أَنسَىٰنِيهُ إِلَّا ٱلشَّيۡطَٰنُ أَنۡ أَذۡكُرَهُۥۚ وَٱتَّخَذَ سَبِيلَهُۥ فِي ٱلۡبَحۡرِ عَجَبٗا

63. (Joshua) said: "Did you see when we betook ourselves to the rock (for a rest), then indeed, I forgot the fish, and none but Satan ^[35] made me forget that I mention it - and it took its path into the sea amazingly.

[35]. Satan was eager to make him forget about this amazing incident knowing that the meeting of these two pious highly-knowledgeable servants, that is Moses and Al-Khidr, would result in yet greater knowledge.

64 : 18

قَالَ ذَٰلِكَ مَا كُنَّا نَبۡغِۚ فَٱرۡتَدَّا عَلَىٰٓ ءَاثَارِهِمَا قَصَصٗا

64. (Moses) said: "That is what we were seeking!" So they (both) returned, following their footprints.

65 : 18

فَوَجَدَا عَبۡدٗا مِّنۡ عِبَادِنَآ ءَاتَيۡنَٰهُ رَحۡمَةٗ مِّنۡ عِندِنَا وَعَلَّمۡنَٰهُ مِن لَّدُنَّا عِلۡمٗا

65. Then they found one of Our servants ^[36] whom We had granted Mercy from Us, and whom We had taught Knowledge from Ourselves.

[36]. I.e., Al-Khidr.

66 : 18

قَالَ لَهُۥ مُوسَىٰ هَلۡ أَتَّبِعُكَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن تُعَلِّمَنِ مِمَّا عُلِّمۡتَ رُشۡدٗا

66. Moses said to him: "May I follow you ^[37], on condition that you should teach me of the right Knowledge from what you have been taught?"

[37]. Moses here gives a valuable lesson of showing humbleness to those who have greater knowledge than one’s self. He sought permission to be a follower of Al-Khiḍr’s and asked him to teach him.

67 : 18

قَالَ إِنَّكَ لَن تَسۡتَطِيعَ مَعِيَ صَبۡرٗا

67. He said: "Surely, you cannot have patience with me."

68 : 18

وَكَيۡفَ تَصۡبِرُ عَلَىٰ مَا لَمۡ تُحِطۡ بِهِۦ خُبۡرٗا

68. And how can you have patience for what you have not encompassed in knowledge?

69 : 18

قَالَ سَتَجِدُنِيٓ إِن شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ صَابِرٗا وَلَآ أَعۡصِي لَكَ أَمۡرٗا

69. (Moses) said: "You will find me patient, Allāh’s willing, and I shall not disobey you in any matter."

70 : 18

قَالَ فَإِنِ ٱتَّبَعۡتَنِي فَلَا تَسۡـَٔلۡنِي عَن شَيۡءٍ حَتَّىٰٓ أُحۡدِثَ لَكَ مِنۡهُ ذِكۡرٗا

70. (Al-Khidr) said: "Then if you would follow me, do not question me about anything until I myself mention it to you."

71 : 18

فَٱنطَلَقَا حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا رَكِبَا فِي ٱلسَّفِينَةِ خَرَقَهَاۖ قَالَ أَخَرَقۡتَهَا لِتُغۡرِقَ أَهۡلَهَا لَقَدۡ جِئۡتَ شَيۡـًٔا إِمۡرٗا

71. So they went on (their way) until when they embarked on a boat (to cross the river), he made a hole in it. (Moses) said: "Have you made a hole in it to drown its people (i.e., passengers)? You have certainly done a grave thing."

72 : 18

قَالَ أَلَمۡ أَقُلۡ إِنَّكَ لَن تَسۡتَطِيعَ مَعِيَ صَبۡرٗا

72. (Al-Khidr) said: "Did I not say that you will never be able to have patience with me?

73 : 18

قَالَ لَا تُؤَاخِذۡنِي بِمَا نَسِيتُ وَلَا تُرۡهِقۡنِي مِنۡ أَمۡرِي عُسۡرٗا

73. 'Moses) said: "Blame me not for what I forgot ^[38], and do not burden me in my course with hardship."

[38]. Muhammad, God's Messenger said: "The first excuse given by Moses, was that he had forgotten, while they were in the ship. Then a sparrow came and sat over the edge of the ship and dipped its beak once in the sea. Al-Khidr said to Moses, "My knowledge and your knowledge, compared to Allâh’s Knowledge is like what this sparrow has taken out of the sea."

74 : 18

فَٱنطَلَقَا حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا لَقِيَا غُلَٰمٗا فَقَتَلَهُۥ قَالَ أَقَتَلۡتَ نَفۡسٗا زَكِيَّةَۢ بِغَيۡرِ نَفۡسٖ لَّقَدۡ جِئۡتَ شَيۡـٔٗا نُّكۡرٗا

74. So they went on till, when they met a boy, he killed him ^[39]. (Moses) said: "Have you killed an innocent person who had killed none? You have done a deplorable thing."

[39]. Even though the parents were believers, the son was to become a disbeliever, and it was feared that he would make them fall into disbelief out of their love for him.

75 : 18

۞ قَالَ أَلَمۡ أَقُل لَّكَ إِنَّكَ لَن تَسۡتَطِيعَ مَعِيَ صَبۡرٗا

75. (Al-Khidr) said: "Did I not say to you that you will never be able to have patience with me?"

76 : 18

قَالَ إِن سَأَلۡتُكَ عَن شَيۡءِۭ بَعۡدَهَا فَلَا تُصَٰحِبۡنِيۖ قَدۡ بَلَغۡتَ مِن لَّدُنِّي عُذۡرٗا

76. (Moses) said: "If I ask you about anything after this, do not keep me in your company; indeed you have then attained from me an excuse."

77 : 18

فَٱنطَلَقَا حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَآ أَتَيَآ أَهۡلَ قَرۡيَةٍ ٱسۡتَطۡعَمَآ أَهۡلَهَا فَأَبَوۡاْ أَن يُضَيِّفُوهُمَا فَوَجَدَا فِيهَا جِدَارٗا يُرِيدُ أَن يَنقَضَّ فَأَقَامَهُۥۖ قَالَ لَوۡ شِئۡتَ لَتَّخَذۡتَ عَلَيۡهِ أَجۡرٗا

77. So they went on, until when they came to the people of a town, They asked its people for food, but they refused to entertain them both as guests. They then found a wall therein which was on the point of falling down, so he put it into a right state ^[40]. 'Moses' said: "If you had wished, you could have taken payment for it."

[40]. Allāh has filled man with skill, with intelligence, with knowledge, and with all craftsmanship. David built houses for himself and he prepared a place for the mosque of Allāh and pitched a tent for it for giving food for the needy. Allāh made also pliable for him iron. Zakariyya was a carpenter. This also states the virtue of Zakariyya peace be upon him for he would eat through earning a livelihood which Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) termed as ‘the best thing a man can eat. Jesus was labourer. Or one who works with his hands. prophets Moses and Muhammad worked as shepherds. We read from this verse also that Al-Khidr found a wall which was on the point of falling down, so he put it into a right state.
In every profession you choose to work you must be skillful or you cannot excel in life.

78 : 18

قَالَ هَٰذَا فِرَاقُ بَيۡنِي وَبَيۡنِكَۚ سَأُنَبِّئُكَ بِتَأۡوِيلِ مَا لَمۡ تَسۡتَطِع عَّلَيۡهِ صَبۡرًا

78. (Al-Khidr) said: "This is the parting between me and you; now I will inform you of the interpretation of that with which you could not have patience.

79 : 18

أَمَّا ٱلسَّفِينَةُ فَكَانَتۡ لِمَسَٰكِينَ يَعۡمَلُونَ فِي ٱلۡبَحۡرِ فَأَرَدتُّ أَنۡ أَعِيبَهَا وَكَانَ وَرَآءَهُم مَّلِكٞ يَأۡخُذُ كُلَّ سَفِينَةٍ غَصۡبٗا

79. As for the ship, it belonged to (some) poor people who worked at sea, and I wanted to cause defect in it as there was after them a king, who was taking every (good) ship by force.

80 : 18

وَأَمَّا ٱلۡغُلَٰمُ فَكَانَ أَبَوَاهُ مُؤۡمِنَيۡنِ فَخَشِينَآ أَن يُرۡهِقَهُمَا طُغۡيَٰنٗا وَكُفۡرٗا

80. As for the boy, his parents were believers, and we feared lest he would overburden them both by transgression and disbelief,

81 : 18

فَأَرَدۡنَآ أَن يُبۡدِلَهُمَا رَبُّهُمَا خَيۡرٗا مِّنۡهُ زَكَوٰةٗ وَأَقۡرَبَ رُحۡمٗا

81. So we intended that their Lord (Allāh) might give them both in his place one better than him in purity and nearer in 'affection and' compassion .

82 : 18

وَأَمَّا ٱلۡجِدَارُ فَكَانَ لِغُلَٰمَيۡنِ يَتِيمَيۡنِ فِي ٱلۡمَدِينَةِ وَكَانَ تَحۡتَهُۥ كَنزٞ لَّهُمَا وَكَانَ أَبُوهُمَا صَٰلِحٗا فَأَرَادَ رَبُّكَ أَن يَبۡلُغَآ أَشُدَّهُمَا وَيَسۡتَخۡرِجَا كَنزَهُمَا رَحۡمَةٗ مِّن رَّبِّكَۚ وَمَا فَعَلۡتُهُۥ عَنۡ أَمۡرِيۚ ذَٰلِكَ تَأۡوِيلُ مَا لَمۡ تَسۡطِع عَّلَيۡهِ صَبۡرٗا

82. As for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the city, and there was beneath it a treasure belonging to them, and their father was a righteous man. So your Lord willed that they should attain their maturity, and take out their treasure, a Mercy from your Lord, and I did not do it of my own accord. This is the interpretation of that with which you could not have patience."

83 : 18

وَيَسۡـَٔلُونَكَ عَن ذِي ٱلۡقَرۡنَيۡنِۖ قُلۡ سَأَتۡلُواْ عَلَيۡكُم مِّنۡهُ ذِكۡرًا

83. They ask you about Zulqarnain ^[41]. Say: "I shall recite to you about him a remembrance."

[41]. The two-horned one i.e., Cyrus of Persia. 

84 : 18

إِنَّا مَكَّنَّا لَهُۥ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَءَاتَيۡنَٰهُ مِن كُلِّ شَيۡءٖ سَبَبٗا

84. Indeed, We established him in the Land ^[42] and We had gaven him means of access to everything ^[43].

[42]. From Persia to the Black Sea on one side, and from Asian Turkey to Afghanistan and Baluchistan on the other.
[43]. He was endowed with all means necessary to achieve his endeavors; soldiers, weaponry, know-how, and the fear he struck in the hearts of enemies, etc.

85 : 18

فَأَتۡبَعَ سَبَبًا

85. So he followed a course (towards the west).

86 : 18

حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا بَلَغَ مَغۡرِبَ ٱلشَّمۡسِ وَجَدَهَا تَغۡرُبُ فِي عَيۡنٍ حَمِئَةٖ وَوَجَدَ عِندَهَا قَوۡمٗاۖ قُلۡنَا يَٰذَا ٱلۡقَرۡنَيۡنِ إِمَّآ أَن تُعَذِّبَ وَإِمَّآ أَن تَتَّخِذَ فِيهِمۡ حُسۡنٗا

86. Until when he reached the place of the setting of the sun, he found it setting in a muddy spring (a dark, murky water), and found by it (an evil) people. (Allāh) said: "O Zulqarnain, either that you chastise or take to yourself in them with graciousness."

87 : 18

قَالَ أَمَّا مَن ظَلَمَ فَسَوۡفَ نُعَذِّبُهُۥ ثُمَّ يُرَدُّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ فَيُعَذِّبُهُۥ عَذَابٗا نُّكۡرٗا

87. (Zulqarnain) said, "As for he who does wrong (idolatry), we shall chastise him, then he will be returned to his Lord 'Allāh', and He will chastise him with an exemplary Chastisement (in Hellfire)."

88 : 18

وَأَمَّا مَنۡ ءَامَنَ وَعَمِلَ صَٰلِحٗا فَلَهُۥ جَزَآءً ٱلۡحُسۡنَىٰۖ وَسَنَقُولُ لَهُۥ مِنۡ أَمۡرِنَا يُسۡرٗا

88. But as for him who believes and lives righteously, then for him is finest reward (of Paradise) and we shall speak to him an easy word of our command.

89 : 18

ثُمَّ أَتۡبَعَ سَبَبًا

89. Then he followed (another) course (towards the east).

90 : 18

حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا بَلَغَ مَطۡلِعَ ٱلشَّمۡسِ وَجَدَهَا تَطۡلُعُ عَلَىٰ قَوۡمٖ لَّمۡ نَجۡعَل لَّهُم مِّن دُونِهَا سِتۡرٗا

90. Until when he reached the land of the rising of the sun, he found it rising on a people to whom We had given no shelter from it ^[44];

[44]. They had nothing to shade them from the sun of trees, mountains, or buildings.

91 : 18

كَذَٰلِكَۖ وَقَدۡ أَحَطۡنَا بِمَا لَدَيۡهِ خُبۡرٗا

91. Thus (it was). And certainly We encompassed of what he possessed by report.

92 : 18

ثُمَّ أَتۡبَعَ سَبَبًا

92. Then he followed 'another' course.

93 : 18

حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا بَلَغَ بَيۡنَ ٱلسَّدَّيۡنِ وَجَدَ مِن دُونِهِمَا قَوۡمٗا لَّا يَكَادُونَ يَفۡقَهُونَ قَوۡلٗا

93. Until when he reached (a pass) between two mountain barriers, he found from besides them a people who could hardly understand a word ^[45].

[45]. They knew no other language besides their own.

94 : 18

قَالُواْ يَٰذَا ٱلۡقَرۡنَيۡنِ إِنَّ يَأۡجُوجَ وَمَأۡجُوجَ مُفۡسِدُونَ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَهَلۡ نَجۡعَلُ لَكَ خَرۡجًا عَلَىٰٓ أَن تَجۡعَلَ بَيۡنَنَا وَبَيۡنَهُمۡ سَدّٗا

94. They said: "O Zulqarnain, Gog and Magog make corruption in the land ^[46]. Shall we then pay you a tribute in order that you may erect a barrier between us and them."

[46]. Gog and Magog are two tribes from among the sons of Adam coming from the uttermost part of the North of Palestine. They have wide faces and small eyes. They used to spread mischief on earth, so Allāh gave Dhu’l-Qarnayn the power to build a barrier to detain them. They will keep on digging at it until Allāh gives them permission to come out at the end of time, after Jesus (peace be upon him) has killed the Antichrist. Gog and Magog will emerge in huge numbers and will drink up the lake of Tiberias (in Palestine). They will spread mischief on earth and no one will be able to resist them. Jesus (peace be upon him) and the believers with him will take refuge in Mount Tur until Allāh destroys Gog and Magog by sending worms that will eat their necks. Then Allāh will send rain to wash away their bodies into the sea and cleanse the earth of their stench.

95 : 18

قَالَ مَا مَكَّنِّي فِيهِ رَبِّي خَيۡرٞ فَأَعِينُونِي بِقُوَّةٍ أَجۡعَلۡ بَيۡنَكُمۡ وَبَيۡنَهُمۡ رَدۡمًا

95. He said: "That in which my Lord (Allāh) has established me is better, so help me with labour-force, I will make between you and them a dam."

96 : 18

ءَاتُونِي زُبَرَ ٱلۡحَدِيدِۖ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا سَاوَىٰ بَيۡنَ ٱلصَّدَفَيۡنِ قَالَ ٱنفُخُواْۖ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا جَعَلَهُۥ نَارٗا قَالَ ءَاتُونِيٓ أُفۡرِغۡ عَلَيۡهِ قِطۡرٗا

96. Bring me sheets of iron" - until when he had levelled between the two cliffs, he said: "Blow", until when he had made it as fire, he said: "Bring me molten copper, that I may pour over it."

97 : 18

فَمَا ٱسۡطَٰعُوٓاْ أَن يَظۡهَرُوهُ وَمَا ٱسۡتَطَٰعُواْ لَهُۥ نَقۡبٗا

97. So they (Gog and Magog) were unable to scale (the barrier) nor were they able (to make) for it any tunnel.

98 : 18

قَالَ هَٰذَا رَحۡمَةٞ مِّن رَّبِّيۖ فَإِذَا جَآءَ وَعۡدُ رَبِّي جَعَلَهُۥ دَكَّآءَۖ وَكَانَ وَعۡدُ رَبِّي حَقّٗا

98. (Zulqarnain) said: "This is a Mercy from my Lord (Allāh), but when the Promise of my Lord comes to pass He will make it level (with the ground). For the Promise of my Lord is ever true."

99 : 18

۞ وَتَرَكۡنَا بَعۡضَهُمۡ يَوۡمَئِذٖ يَمُوجُ فِي بَعۡضٖۖ وَنُفِخَ فِي ٱلصُّورِ فَجَمَعۡنَٰهُمۡ جَمۡعٗا

99. And we let some of them on that Day surge (like waves) against some others, and the trumpet will be blown, and We shall gather them all together ^[47].

[47]. To the great gathering place, for the Judgment to begin.

100 : 18

وَعَرَضۡنَا جَهَنَّمَ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لِّلۡكَٰفِرِينَ عَرۡضًا

100. And We will display Gehinnom (Hell) on that Day to the disbelievers, all displayed.

101 : 18

ٱلَّذِينَ كَانَتۡ أَعۡيُنُهُمۡ فِي غِطَآءٍ عَن ذِكۡرِي وَكَانُواْ لَا يَسۡتَطِيعُونَ سَمۡعًا

101. Those whose eyes had been under a covering from My reminder (this Qur’an), and they could not bear to listen (to the Truth)

102 : 18

أَفَحَسِبَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓاْ أَن يَتَّخِذُواْ عِبَادِي مِن دُونِيٓ أَوۡلِيَآءَۚ إِنَّآ أَعۡتَدۡنَا جَهَنَّمَ لِلۡكَٰفِرِينَ نُزُلٗا

102. Do then those who disbelieve 'in the Truth' think that they can take any of My servants instead of Me protectors? Surely We have prepared Hell for the disbelievers as an accommodation.

103 : 18

قُلۡ هَلۡ نُنَبِّئُكُم بِٱلۡأَخۡسَرِينَ أَعۡمَٰلًا

103. Say: "Shall We inform you of the greatest losers in (their) works?"

104 : 18

ٱلَّذِينَ ضَلَّ سَعۡيُهُمۡ فِي ٱلۡحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡيَا وَهُمۡ يَحۡسَبُونَ أَنَّهُمۡ يُحۡسِنُونَ صُنۡعًا

104. (They are) those whose labor has gone astray in (pursuit of no more than) this worldly life, and they think that they are doing good by their work.

105 : 18

أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِ رَبِّهِمۡ وَلِقَآئِهِۦ فَحَبِطَتۡ أَعۡمَٰلُهُمۡ فَلَا نُقِيمُ لَهُمۡ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ وَزۡنٗا

105. These are the ones who disbelieve in the revelations of their Lord (Allāh) and His Meeting, so their deeds are in vain ^[48], and We shall not assign any weight 'value' for them on the Day of Resurrection.

[48]. For the acceptance of the righteous deeds it is stipulated that the following two basic conditions must be fulfilled: (a) The intentions while doing such deeds must be totally for God’s ’s sake only without any show-off or to gain praise or fame. (b) Such a deed must be performed in accordance with the Sunnah of God's Messenger Muhammad bin ‘Abdullâh, the last of the Prophets and the Messengers of God. Muhammad, God's Messenger said: "If somebody innovates something which is not present in our religion (of Islâmic Monotheism), then that thing will be rejected." He also said: "Whoever performs a 'good' deed which we have not ordered anyone to do 'or is not in accord with our religion of Islâmic Monotheism', then that deed will be rejected and will not be accepted."

106 : 18

ذَٰلِكَ جَزَآؤُهُمۡ جَهَنَّمُ بِمَا كَفَرُواْ وَٱتَّخَذُوٓاْ ءَايَٰتِي وَرُسُلِي هُزُوًا

106. That is their recompense, Hell, as they disbelieved (in the Truth) and took My revelations and messengers as mockery ^[49].

[49]. The deniers have to choose the path they take for themselves. Having received knowledge in great detail of both the path of Doom and that of pleasure as depicted in this Chapter as well as throughout the Qur’an so that they might open up their hearts to the Call of Faith, Islam.

107 : 18

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ كَانَتۡ لَهُمۡ جَنَّٰتُ ٱلۡفِرۡدَوۡسِ نُزُلًا

107. Indeed, Those who believe and do righteous deeds, will have the Gardens of Paradise as an accommodation,

108 : 18

خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا لَا يَبۡغُونَ عَنۡهَا حِوَلٗا

108. Abiding therein forever, they seek not any shift from it.

109 : 18

قُل لَّوۡ كَانَ ٱلۡبَحۡرُ مِدَادٗا لِّكَلِمَٰتِ رَبِّي لَنَفِدَ ٱلۡبَحۡرُ قَبۡلَ أَن تَنفَدَ كَلِمَٰتُ رَبِّي وَلَوۡ جِئۡنَا بِمِثۡلِهِۦ مَدَدٗا

109. Say: "If the sea were ink for the words of my Lord ^[50], the sea would surely be consumed before the words of my Lord are exhausted, even though We were to bring the like of that 'sea' in supplement."

[50]. I.e., His unlimited Knowledge, or words describing His attributes and His grandeur.

110 : 18

قُلۡ إِنَّمَآ أَنَا۠ بَشَرٞ مِّثۡلُكُمۡ يُوحَىٰٓ إِلَيَّ أَنَّمَآ إِلَٰهُكُمۡ إِلَٰهٞ وَٰحِدٞۖ فَمَن كَانَ يَرۡجُواْ لِقَآءَ رَبِّهِۦ فَلۡيَعۡمَلۡ عَمَلٗا صَٰلِحٗا وَلَا يُشۡرِكۡ بِعِبَادَةِ رَبِّهِۦٓ أَحَدَۢا

110. Say (Muhammad): "I am only a mortal man like you ^[51]; it has been revealed to me that your God is only One God (Allāh). So whoever hopes to meet his Lord, should do righteous deeds, and not associate anyone in the worship of his Lord 'Allāh' ^[52].

[51]. They are to realize that Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad, the Noble Messengers of God (ﷺ) are no more than a mere humans like any other who knows nothing of the knowledge of the Unseen except what Allāh revealed to them. The most prominent piece of knowledge of what is revealed to them, is that Allāh 'God' is One and Only. So that they should associate none with Him in worship as partners.
[52]. Muhammad, God's last and final Messenger reported that Allāh said: “I am most independent and free from needing partners. Whoever performs a good deed while associating partners with Me, I will leave him and his setting up of associates to Me.”
A companion of the Prophet said: Muhammad, the Messenger of God (ﷺ) came out to us when we were discussing the antichrist and said: ‘Shall I not tell you of that which I fear more for you than the antichrist?’ We said: ‘Yes.’ He said: ‘Hidden polytheism, when a man stands to pray and makes it look good because he sees a man looking at him.’”
