84. Indeed, We established him in the Land42 and We had gaven him means of access to everything43.
42. From Persia to the Black Sea on one side, and from Asian Turkey to Afghanistan and Baluchistan on the other.
43. He was endowed with all means necessary to achieve his endeavors; soldiers, weaponry, know-how, and the fear he struck in the hearts of enemies, etc.
86. Until when he reached the place of the setting of the sun, he found it setting in a muddy spring (a dark, murky water), and found by it (an evil) people. (Allāh) said: "O Zulqarnain, either that you chastise or take to yourself in them with graciousness."
87. (Zulqarnain) said, "As for he who does wrong (idolatry), we shall chastise him, then he will be returned to his Lord 'Allāh', and He will chastise him with an exemplary Chastisement (in Hellfire)."
88. But as for him who believes and lives righteously, then for him is finest reward (of Paradise) and we shall speak to him an easy word of our command.
94. They said: "O Zulqarnain, Gog and Magog make corruption in the land46. Shall we then pay you a tribute in order that you may erect a barrier between us and them."
46. Gog and Magog are two tribes from among the sons of Adam coming from the uttermost part of the North of Palestine. They have wide faces and small eyes. They used to spread mischief on earth, so Allāh gave Dhu’l-Qarnayn the power to build a barrier to detain them. They will keep on digging at it until Allāh gives them permission to come out at the end of time, after Jesus (peace be upon him) has killed the Antichrist. Gog and Magog will emerge in huge numbers and will drink up the lake of Tiberias (in Palestine). They will spread mischief on earth and no one will be able to resist them. Jesus (peace be upon him) and the believers with him will take refuge in Mount Tur until Allāh destroys Gog and Magog by sending worms that will eat their necks. Then Allāh will send rain to wash away their bodies into the sea and cleanse the earth of their stench.
96. Bring me sheets of iron" - until when he had levelled between the two cliffs, he said: "Blow", until when he had made it as fire, he said: "Bring me molten copper, that I may pour over it."
