فَلَمَّا جَآءَ أَمۡرُنَا جَعَلۡنَا عَٰلِيَهَا سَافِلَهَا وَأَمۡطَرۡنَا عَلَيۡهَا حِجَارَةٗ مِّن سِجِّيلٖ مَّنضُودٖ
82. When Our decree came to pass, We turned it upside down and rained down upon them clustered stones of baked clay tiered, (one after the other).

مُّسَوَّمَةً عِندَ رَبِّكَۖ وَمَا هِيَ مِنَ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ بِبَعِيدٖ
83. Marked by your Lord, and these (blows of Allah’s Punishment) are never far from the 'pagan' wrongdoers.

۞ وَإِلَىٰ مَدۡيَنَ أَخَاهُمۡ شُعَيۡبٗاۚ قَالَ يَٰقَوۡمِ ٱعۡبُدُواْ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنۡ إِلَٰهٍ غَيۡرُهُۥۖ وَلَا تَنقُصُواْ ٱلۡمِكۡيَالَ وَٱلۡمِيزَانَۖ إِنِّيٓ أَرَىٰكُم بِخَيۡرٖ وَإِنِّيٓ أَخَافُ عَلَيۡكُمۡ عَذَابَ يَوۡمٖ مُّحِيطٖ
84. To Midian (We sent) their brother Shu’aib. He said: "My people, worship Allāh alone, you have no god (worthy of worship) other than Him. Do not give short measure and weight [16]: I see you in prosperity, and I fear for you the torment of an all-encompassing Day.
[16]. The cardinal sin of Lot’s people was lust, whereas the people of Shu‘ayb’s major sin was greed, for not being fair in trade and fordealing in usury 'interest', imposing on people illegal taxes, and cheating in the measure and weight.

وَيَٰقَوۡمِ أَوۡفُواْ ٱلۡمِكۡيَالَ وَٱلۡمِيزَانَ بِٱلۡقِسۡطِۖ وَلَا تَبۡخَسُواْ ٱلنَّاسَ أَشۡيَآءَهُمۡ وَلَا تَعۡثَوۡاْ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ مُفۡسِدِينَ
85. O my people, give full measure and weight fairly, do not deprive people of what is rightfully theirs, and do not commit abuse on the earth, spreading corruption.

بَقِيَّتُ ٱللَّهِ خَيۡرٞ لَّكُمۡ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤۡمِنِينَۚ وَمَآ أَنَا۠ عَلَيۡكُم بِحَفِيظٖ
86. What remains (lawful) from Allāh (after giving the dues of others) is better for you [17] if you are believers - and I am not a keeper over you.
[17]. Whatever is left after giving full measure is best and purer than what is fraudulently gained.

قَالُواْ يَٰشُعَيۡبُ أَصَلَوٰتُكَ تَأۡمُرُكَ أَن نَّتۡرُكَ مَا يَعۡبُدُ ءَابَآؤُنَآ أَوۡ أَن نَّفۡعَلَ فِيٓ أَمۡوَٰلِنَا مَا نَشَٰٓؤُاْۖ إِنَّكَ لَأَنتَ ٱلۡحَلِيمُ ٱلرَّشِيدُ
87. They said: "O Shu’aib, does your prayer enjoin you that we should forsake what our fathers used to worship or that we (should leave off) doing what we please with regard to our money? (You would have us believe that) you are indeed the only forbearing, right-minded man!"

قَالَ يَٰقَوۡمِ أَرَءَيۡتُمۡ إِن كُنتُ عَلَىٰ بَيِّنَةٖ مِّن رَّبِّي وَرَزَقَنِي مِنۡهُ رِزۡقًا حَسَنٗاۚ وَمَآ أُرِيدُ أَنۡ أُخَالِفَكُمۡ إِلَىٰ مَآ أَنۡهَىٰكُمۡ عَنۡهُۚ إِنۡ أُرِيدُ إِلَّا ٱلۡإِصۡلَٰحَ مَا ٱسۡتَطَعۡتُۚ وَمَا تَوۡفِيقِيٓ إِلَّا بِٱللَّهِۚ عَلَيۡهِ تَوَكَّلۡتُ وَإِلَيۡهِ أُنِيبُ
88. (Shu’aib) said: "O my people, have you considered if I am on a clear Proof from my Lord and He has provided me with a good provision from Him. And I do not want to differ from you (to do) that which I forbid you. I only want reform as much as I can, and my success (in my task) is only from Allāh. On Him (alone) do I rely and to Him do I turn (in repentance)."
